@JeanGreyForever: Exactly. I didn’t like the idea of MCU shows from the beginning for that reason. Expecting people to keep up with like 3 movies a year is okay, but add 3 streaming shows on top of that and it starts to feel like homework. All of the shows had their moments (yes, even Secret Invasion, namely every second Olivia Coleman was on screen) and I thought Wandavision, Loki, and Agatha were great, but I still wish they just stuck to the movies.

I’m glad they seem to have realised their mistake, indicated by the renewed focus on movies. Now I’m curious how they’re gonna explain the events of the shows in Doomsday to people that haven’t watched anything since Endgame :snicker:

What I hate the most is stuff like Daredevil never interacting or meeting any other MCU heroes, you brought him in only to not connect to anything, it almost feels like he'll never interact with any of the Avengers, I hope he is in Secret Wars, he was always a member a few times in the comics and people say ''what can he do to Doom'' well Black Widow and Hawkeye are on the team, so why not him, if anything Daredevil is slightly more useful than Black Widow and Hawkeye, he has the radar sense, very agile and a good fighter, you can just have him take the role of Hawkeye, Black Widow

I feel like the TV shows should be treated as bonus stories for fans, rather than homework.  Before Disney+, we had 22-episode seasons of Agents of SHIELD, and multiple 13-episode seasons for Defenders characters on Netflix - and no-one complained about quantity then!  Watching the TV shows, or even the movies, should be for people who want to want them, therefore cancelling these series means removing the choice for people who do want to watch them and love these characters.

Of all the Disney+ TV series, very few of them actually have any impact on the movies; namely WandaVision, Ms Marvel, Falcon and Winter Solider.  (Only now is Loki being following up in Avengers: Doomsday). Please don't tell me Moon Knight, Daredevil: Born Again, Echo, Agatha All Along, Hawkeye, Wonder-Man, She-Hulk, Werewolf-by-Night, Ironheart etc are homework for ANY of the movies.  None of these shows' protagonists have appeared in ANY movie since (and most of them never even appeared again!)

In my opinion, the main problem with the Disney+ TV shows is not treating them like TV shows instead of 6-episode events, and introducing characters and storylines only to drop them.  Thankfully I feel like Marvel has turned a corner and Daredevil: Born Again, Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, and X-Men '97 seem to be understanding better that these should be structured like TV shows.

TLDR: I think Marvel Disney+ TV has many problems, but very few of its shows are "homework" for the movies.

I think a pretty easy explanation for other characters not being too involved in doomsday is that it happen rather quickly. Star lord for example is on sabbatical and word might get to him too late. Same could apply for Carol or Jennifer or anyone TBH.

Also I'm sure Monica being the the X-Universe will be important and that she's gonna be in the film. I know the Marvels wasn't on that little list of some reason but neither was Thor 4 and we seen Love in the trailer.

Never is a strong word, considering he's met Spider-Man and She-Hulk (he's got a thing for hyphenated names evidently) as well as side characters like Swordsman and Kamala's dad.

I agree with most of what you've said. I do think there is a sweet spot of connectedness somewhere in between TFatWS and Agents of Shield, where they feel less essential than TFatWS but more connected than AoS.

And do think more TV characters will become important to movies as time goes on... Especially if they do a team up (Like Elsa and MoonKnight for Midnight Sons or the Champions or west coast avengers type team with Shulkie and Wonder Man)

I definitely agree with this bit! It is nice when they can just let TV be TV, not a serial that's really a movie cut into chunks. She-Hulk, Wandavision and Agatha did this best IMO where each episode did feels like it's own contained unit at least half the time.

I've been trying to avoid the spoiler brackets but I accidentally skim read something implying Cyclops was an more major character to the OG X-Men movies than Rogue? That's not really true, she has a lot more development and focus especially in the first 2.

Why?

Punisher's just been in the most successful Marvel movie maybe of all time. And it's got a nice low age rating for Lego. Reynolds DP has no such association, even if he gets a little bit in Doomsday that Movie has a tonne of people, he's not gonna be anywhere near as important as Frank was to BND.

Personally (controversial opinion coming up) I hope that side we are getting a new set of X Characters that Reynolds-Pool mostly exits with the Fox verse. He can still do multiverse cameos but if the MCU want a Deadpool going forward I'd like an MCU specific one, with a new actor... And dare I say it? Slightly toned down.

Deadpool will have  a bigger role in Secret Wars, as for your recasting, Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool at this point, I don't think he'll be as popular or box office draw if he stops playing him, I mean I'd go as far to say Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is as important and popular as Hugh as Wolverine, RDJ as Iron Man and Tobey as Spidey

For me Deadpool is a funny superhero who is fantastical and can joke without the R-Rated aspects, whereas Punisher is a real world guy who's main thing is killing criminals and using guns as his only weapon, sure Deadpool uses guns but he uses swords and is comic booky, Punisher is more real world than any other character so

I don't know how to phrase it but a costumed funny crazy guy is more kid friendly than a gun toting vigilante

Sure the Movies have made him widely known as the R-Rated guy but comic book wise he wasn't always like that

I  strongly believe Deadpool will be made again, he did appear in that Disney plus special so he isn't completely off the table, also him being in Avengers just gives more chances

I mean Tobey has already been recast twice and RDJ and Jackman are going to be too after this film.

I would say the vast majority of people don't seem to hate the scenario itself- as I said the disney+ star who talked about it called it the coolest thing he'd ever heard, I've seen youtubers referring to it as

potentially one of the greatest last stands in fiction- which sure is an exaggeration but goes to show how hyped people are

and most importantly, people generally aren't making fanart, fan comics, edits, fan scores, and animatics about scenarios they hate the concept of. Memes, maybe, but generally not the rest. I think the only thing most people would hate is if

they actually killed Tobey here, and we all know that's not going to happen.

The raimiverse itself will obviously get reset in secret wars with everything else, just like how the snapped came back, but it seems like most people either get that or are specifically worried about Tobey. Most of the comments I've seen that look like children wrote them say they hope Tobey doesn't die or that he comes with the X-men to fight doom, and I think most adults can get the concept of impermanence here, especially when 616 itself effectively dies later in the film.

If anything I imagine the reshoots will just be making that more clear in the scene itself rather than waiting until later in the film.

As for the rest,

  Reveal hidden contents

they are 100% revealing Tobey is alive at the end of this movie, and it's also clear that this is being set up with the X-men in an initially adversarial role but also a "it's them or us". Like, if they do nothing, both worlds die, they aren't just jumping Tobey Maguire for the fun of it. I imagine they will handhold the audience through that idea in the movie just so everyone gets it. But even then, I imagine part of the reason for this scene is to have the audience be at least a little against these X-men or at least see them as adversaries to 616 so that we're rooting for 616 more in the mansion fight before the inevitable "it's all a misunderstanding".

And yes I think they're adding more X-men to have Tobey aurafarm on the team before fighting Logan.

Magneto is the sticking point, though. It's weird to have him carpetbombing a city when it's not even the verse-destroyer. He is generally villainous but that is the thing they do need to change, unless they want either the X-men to shun him, or like you say, people to dislike the X-men. Either do some pseudoscientific exposition about how he's dropping instability bombs that are the only way to prime the verse-destroyer, or just cut that part out.

I thought this too at first, but the more I thought about it

With how much of a fan response there's already been, there's probably a lot of dollars in representing the actual fight scene between them.

Especially since given if they play secret wars as close to the chest as they did endgame, there's a good chance it's an endgame-like wave of random BS- a set based on the opening scene could get a lot of sales from adults who aren't as interested in the wolverinebuster or Tobey Maguire's motorcycle.

Gonna reply to these all as one block as it's easier

Spoiler

Yeah, no-one has an issue with the fight (well I hate this version of the character being a Russos film at all but that's besides the point) but the death/the characterisation of the X-Men is the issue. The fans who know leaks get he's back in the next one but the response to the leak has been almost universally people thinking it's an actual death. People saying it's a great last stand and such is only said because they think it's a last stand. And yes, pretty much all the art comes with the creators saying they'll be mad if it happens. Though, once again, that's because everyone thinks it's a real death. Which is why I was saying I don't think they'll remove it but they'll choreograph more that it's not permanent.

I think the big issue is the fact that, as described, it does seem like they're being cruel for the sake of it. Magneto is consistently described as just malevolently wrecking shit up and the rest of the team is just chill with him. Not to mention a key plot point is that the other characters are using their multiversal transport to try save people from other worlds, the X-Men seemingly just decide to kill everyone with their world jumping tech instead of trying to evacuate anyone. Hell, from the sounds of it the X-Men world is already practically destroyed, why don't they just evacuate their world then blow it up. They've been doing this for a while and just are stuck on the "well we've got to genocide so we can have land in the metaverse" immediately. They never seem to consider anything else. It does paint them not as desperate survivors but actively malicious and stupid. Then the films third act depends on the audience liking megablocking Cyclops, no-one gives a shit about this Cyclops AND he's leading the genocide team.

I don't think they can cut Magneto out though because it's so consistent across leaks AND allegedly he's the reason Tobey can't stop the bomb.

Adding more goons would make sense but the film comes out in four months, maybe some non-VFX heavy ones like Cyclops and Mystique could be dropped in but as is that's gonna be a big ask. The film is still filming and marvel loves mistreating their effects team so it'll probably be doable no matter what.

And the whole branching universes things would be what Doomsday set in motion but doesn't work with what DOFP established, as mentioned before. Another factor is if Electro was redeemed and doesn't die, that should change TASM2's plotline enough to probably ensure Gwen doesn't die. If I'm correct, since I don't remember that movie off the top of my head, Electro and Harry teaming up against Peter is one of the factors as to why Gwen ends up dying. Remove Electro as a villain and Peter has a much stronger chance of keeping Gwen alive. Even moreso if Electro actually worked with Peter to stop Harry.

For the longest time, fans have said they wanted Tobey and Hugh to be onscreen with RDJ or Chris Evans. One or both of them. They were the two biggest Marvel characters outside of the MCU and historically Spider-Man was always their #1 and Wolverine their #2 hero, hence why both of them got superheroes movie first, which were being worked on since the 80s. We know Marvel loves their superhero fights due to a misunderstanding so it makes sense to pit Tobey vs Hugh, but having Hugh's side utterly annihilate Tobey's world is not quite the same as Captain America vs Iron Man vs Thor in the first Avengers movie or Civil War. I believe the leaks say the X-Men have become this aggressive because Monica's presence on their world makes them more prone to incursions. And it's rumored they've lost members stopping other incursions, hence why they're now actively seeking out other universes to destroy them. But I do find it bizarre hat Doom, in the leaks, works with the FF and Avengers to stop the incursions (for his own purposes yes), but it never dawns on the X-Men that for all their scientific genius and mutant powers, that they couldn't actually work to stop the incursions rather than just ensure it happens to everyone else except them. No one considers, especially with Monica there, that they may benefit from reaching out to another universe and working together to save them all. If Doom has more moral clarity than the X-Men here, regardless of his true intentions, that just makes the X-Men look even more bloodthirsty. I wonder if Feige is partially doing this to prime audiences into hating the FoX-Men so they're more accepting for the MCU reboot, but I feel like most audiences will just conflate the two together. I'm seeing so many online posts about how Spidey fans or casual fans in general will be rooting for the X-Men to die and for Doom to wipe them out or how the Sentinels deserve to exist to destroy all mutants. So I don't think they're going to be anymore receptive to the MCU reboot X-Men. I saw X-fans crying about how much hate and backlash they're getting from the Tobey leaks and mind you, this is just an online fandom centered on the hardcore fans who actually follow leaks. Imagine the backlash from casual audiences once the movie actually comes out, particularly ones who don't really care about the X-Men since they haven't been relevant since the 90s or early-mid 2000s. The Raimi movies continue to remain popular, hence why they've gotten two major theatrical re-releases in the last couple of years, plus their presence in NWH. And I know they were trending again in the leadup to BND.

The last act is much bigger than just Sam, Reed and Cyclops fighting Doom. There's a lot of components to it including Thor and all the Asgardians coming back to fight Doom. However, at the last minute when everyone is apparently defeated, the only three left are Sam, Reed and Cyclops and these three are the ones who confront Doom when he ends up reshaping the universe into Battleworld. So they're giving these three the heroic moment as the sorta new big three...except not only do audiences really not care for any of them, but Marvel is forcing them into the roles of Steve, Tony and Thor. And we had a decade of seeing this Avengers trio grow together whereas this new "trio" (from the Avengers, FF and X-Men) is hastily thrown together for this final fight. And out of all of them, Reed is the only one who I think actually has a major part in the film and is connected to Doom so maybe audiences will feel more for him but the other two seem to be there just for the sake of being there. So they can justify Sam's "Avengers" and X-Men being part of the movie.

Exactly, James Marsden was never a big actor. People did not care for his Cyclops and he wasn't even one of the praised characters from those movies. Even "lesser" or supporting characters from the FoX-Men movies, like Deathstrike, Pyro, Iceman, Rogue, Beast, Nightcrawler, Callisto, etc. had more critical appreciation than anything Cyclops did. His biggest part is in the first movie, where every joke is centered on making him look bad with the narrative clearly favoring Wolverine, while both the second and third movies quickly remove him from the plot after the first act.

Spoiler

That's the thing, this multiverse stuff makes no sense now. It wouldn't make sense to have the villains with Tobey but these films are dumb enough to do that.If it was real and cut it's kinda wild Dafoe and Molina shot stuff for these characters that will never be seen.

Well yeah, that's the big issue. The X-Men have multiveral transport gubbins and they use it just to kill other people to save themselves. They don't even try evacuating people or anything. They never tried stopping them. They just reinforce all the issues we talked about with how the genre is written and how most X-men adaptations highlight the ugly parts more than any other heroes.

And yeah, that's the big thing. There was already some discussion about the X-Men's likeability rearing it's head post BND, but this film will frame them purely as doing active evil WHILE trying to tell you they're just desperate heroes in a bad situation. It's not a misunderstanding, they are just only interested in self preservation and don't consider anyone else's well being as valuable. They just are not heroes, by definition, in this film. BUT, the third act will beg you to consider them as such which will make audiences resent them more. Already everyone who hears the leaks thinks that Mutant's have whatever they get coming because it absolutely plays into the worst versions of the characters where they are functionally a nation state getting mad when people don't treat them like an oppressed minority. I think you might have a point with it being able to launch the new team, but that depends on the writers and directors being able to tell they've written villains, this team has struggled with that before. If they had the core cast of the next one be like: Tobey, Tom, Hugh and Sadie with Wolverine subscribing to the flaws of the Fox X-Men and Sadie learning from the Spideys to not repeat those then the criticisms here don't matter. Hell, the horrible Fox roster makes more sense then because they've went with characters who the audience doesn't care for or ones who are intentionally pretty morally warped. Do we trust this creative team to do that though?

And yeah, that's what I meant. The final stand is them? Like Nightcrawler is a good example, they're using him and that makes sense because he was a memorable small role. Genuinely, why bother bringing back Fraiser and Sonic's dad, no one cares for them. Replace both with Storm and then she'd actually be a character audiences were attached to at the end. Hallie Berry wanted to return. Reinforces the weird glass cliff stuff with the MCU. Women and Minorities can be the focus of the disosable streaming stuff but even the most disposable, unremarkable white guys from the old films get to hijack the plot. Like people care for Tobey and Hugh, that's fair game but once again, Cyclops?

That's sorta what I going for, comic Deadpool isn't always as uh brash and such as RR-Pool. Time to be controversial again but Origins wolverine is actually my favourite film with his DP in.

Now I do enjoy the Deadpool movies but Ryan and especially his DP can be rather, uh, insufferable. And I think a new Deadpool could be a bit less grating and suit the general tone s bit better. Also recasting all the X-Men and related characters but not him would show a lack of commitment to thier new reboot.

True enough but they successfully casted different Spider-Man and thier new X-Men will likely get a wolverine at some point! (Though imo he doesn't need to be in movie 1). I'm sure similar things were said about Patrick Stewart before McAvoy was cast or about Alec McGuiness before Ewan got the part.

Apparently Steve won't be Cap ever again either which is stupid

It needs a total reboot at this stage, Secret Wars will be a love letter to everything Marvel and have our fav characters share the screen which we never thought was possible, mix of MCU and the OG 2000's

I think the Multiverse should have been started right after Spider-Man Far From Home, I don't know why it took this long and we got the Phase 4 and 5 slop besides NWH,Deadpool and Wolverine, Fantastic 4 and Thunderbolts

Honestly I don't want it to be a complete reboot anyway but characters from other universes (JJJ being the same is an exception because he's not a main character and JK Simmons is so good in the role) shouldn't carry over their castings IMO. Having new MCU specific castings for Wolverine and Deadpool and anyone else would be preferable. (And Tony can stay dead IMO but this is a comic universe dead is escaped all the time, if they do wanna bring back dead characters they should look to Valhalla for Jane and Heimdall)

I'm guilty of it too so no shade but we really be double posting in this aslume.

Agreed, Magneto has a minifig, Deadpool is unlikely to be made, and Wolverine and Spidey will have ample opportunities to be made in SW since they're two of the leads.

And considering how strict Lego is about what they can or cannot depict, I'm not sure they'd even want to depict a set of a scene that involves an entire (beloved) universe being killed. With all the Raimi sets we've gotten or will get (SM2, SM3 and the upcoming set from the first movie), I don't see fans jumping to collect a set based on the destruction of the Raimiverse to proudly display with those three. Harry's New Goblin was markedly absent from the SM3 set. If they wouldn't include him because he ends up impaled in that fight, then I don't see them going the route of making a scene where an entire universe dies.

The main appeal of licensed Lego Superheroes figures for me is trying to get iconic live-action looking versions of the characters and displaying them in iconic prior moments, replicating some of the stuff I love from the past. I think, as you said, the context isn't really something that most people would display. Even if Lego adapt it, it doesn't sound like it's an interesting setting that would lend well so again it's just a handful of figures being sold with a bunch of rubble.

If it wasn't something revealed to them in Avengers: Doomsday concept art, then the earliest we get those characters will be Avengers: Secret Wars sets in October 2027. Once we get those characters in those outfits, it devalues the need for that specific battle to be adapted, so the only chance of us getting a set focused on that next year is if Lego was provided concept art for the opening action scene.

I imagine that any potential test audience would be annoyed after NWH if the next time you see a redeemed Doc Ock and Green Goblin they are instantly killed.

I can see why someone would consider involving them though, they are the most popular characters in the Raimi Universe and both were 'redeemed' in NWH so you'd expect them to be either living life normally or being a hero alongside Spider-man to try and save their reality from the genocidal X-Men.

Oh no Punisher is absolutely more likely. Major role in one of the biggest movies of all time? The main concern with Punisher is just that he's too violent, but now his most successful project is one where that violence is toned down. Your average facebook mom is now much, much more likely to know Punisher as the guy from spider-man rather than from the netflix shows.

Deadpool on the other hand, while he will be a small part of a big movie, won't have the screen time of punisher, will be just one hero among dozens, and just as importantly, marketing made his whole schtick be that he's inappropriate. His trilogy was too successful for even avengers movies to obscure them.

I think there was a way to do it. Shows like Hawkeye I think are fine- low-stakes, primarily street level shows that don't impact the wider story. And while I despise Born Again wearing the hollow skin of the Netflix series, it's another good example of a show that I simply do not have to watch to know what's going on in the wider marvel universe. (Some other shows like Moon Knight could have been like this if they didn't decide to totally change his powerset and character. I will never not be frustrated by this- i - this turned into a rant that is going in a spoiler for space

Spoiler

it was one of the better shows, but it's so fundamentally not moon knight. Even if you put aside that the best first moon knight story should leave it up to the viewer whether Khonshu is real or Marc is just crazy, the rest is still wrong. The show gives us three personalities:

Marc: The closest to being correct, but still not right. Marc is not a normal guy with DID that makes him seem crazy- his alternate identities are remarkably stable and generally in-sync. The Marc Spector personality itself is what's crazy.

Steven: Just an entirely different man. The one part they got right is that he sometimes functions a Marc's conscience, but Steven is a suave billionaire who funds moon knight and uses his connections to find crime. Steven is also very much NOT Mr. Knight. Some writers treat Mr. Knight as his own unique personality, but at this point it's generally considered to be just when Marc is not intending to be in combat, so speaking to the police/civilians/criminals too intimidated to fight back already.

Jake: This is the worst one- it's like all the writers know of Jake is a scan from a single page of a moon knight comic where it's implied he did something horrible (the thing he did was just have a child and not tell Marc). Jake is the friendly cab driver, the romantic one, he's not so violent that even Marc can't stomach what he's capable of. I also don't know why the show made him spanish.

His powers are also wrong- even when Khonshu is in position to help, Marc doesn't get a healing factor to rival deadpool like he does in the show. He's a guy. Sometimes if Khonshu is able and willing Marc can be revived from death, which is his main "superpower", but aside from that he's generally just a man with gadgets and a fighting style that scares Taskmaster. Which again lends itself to the idea that you don't necessarily know if Khonshu is real or just a hallucination. Seeing Marc shrug off lances through the torso kind of shatters that mystery.

It would be like if you did a Daredevil show where Daredevil has laser eyes, isn't a lawyer, and never mentions his faith.

Honestly do you even need to explain that much? For people who haven't seen the shows it might honestly be easier- they don't have to explain why any of those characters don't show up. Even TFATWS- Endgame ends with Steve giving Sam the shield. If you pick up Doomsday, Sam is cap, which seems logical following on from that. You don't really need to know that he initially gave the shield away and then decided to pick it back up.

The only show that's necessary to explain is Loki. Which will be a little jarring, but presumably they can wrap him explaining to the audience why he is where he is into him explaining to Steve or Thor why he is where he is.

This exactly. Your average facebook mom is now more likely to know Punisher as that guy from the spider-man movie. Deadpool still has an entire very successful trilogy of R-rated movies that built all their marketing off him being inappropriate.

Totally agree on this. I think most people agree on us getting a lore-accurate short disgusting wolverine, but not enough people talk about deadpool. What I'd really like is one that goes back to his roots and has him as a villainous mercenary who's not... well, a fourth-wall breaking clown, at least for his first appearance. Maybe he's defeated by Jean or Charles really going ham on the mental attacks and it accidentally unlocks for him the knowledge that he's in a comic book movie.

Um, @Lego Nostalgia, how exactly are you doing this? :laugh_hard: If I post twice within 15 minutes, the posts get merged automatically, and yet you have 5 separate posts within 5 minutes  WHAT DARK FORBIDDEN MAGIC IS THIS

I was going to ask this too- if I remember right there is a way to trigger a double post, but it's something to do with the edit function (maybe it's editing, confirming the edit, and then making a new post) but Nostalgia's aren't showing edits.

There’s four separate @Lego Nostalgias all posting in this forum from across the multiverse.

But the MCU after Secret Wars won't be a complete Reboot sadly, it's rumored Hugh will still be around after, and there was one rumor where (you know who returns as Iron Man)

Apparently Steve won't be Cap ever again either which is stupid

This is what I've heard as well, that Hugh Jackman is sticking around. There's a reason there's been no Wolverine recasting rumors. I think after what happened post-Endgame, Feige is going to be much stricter about retaining these A-list actors since recasting or replacing them with new heroes did not work in Phases 4-6.

And apparently Chris said that even after Endgame, Feige was trying to bring him back immediately. Not as Captain America but just as Steve Rogers, and Chris is the one who said no because he didn't feel the time was right or any of the projects offered suited him. That he'd only come back if he felt it made sense for the character. So I have a strong feeling that Chris Evans is here to stay after SW (particularly since his film career outside of Marvel didn't really work), but the caveat will be that he's not allowed to be Captain America since they've given that mantle to Sam. Which I find somewhat ironic that Sam could be Captain America for more than three phases and thus longer than Steve was Captain America.

I skipped Secret Invasion but would you recommend it for Olivia Colman alone? I love her but even for her, I didn't think I could get into this show.

I haven't seen The Marvels or BNW, so I don't know how much those movies filled in the gaps about their Disney+ shows (Monica getting powers in WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, Falcon and the Winter Soldier), but I imagine for Doomsday the only one they'd need to really explain is Loki. And that one probably makes sense for the plot since this movie is all about the multiverse and maintaining it. There are characters who are going to need the explanation as much as the audience does.
