Before Disney+, we had 22-episode seasons of Agents of SHIELD, and multiple 13-episode seasons for Defenders characters on Netflix - and no-one complained about quantity then! Watching the TV shows, or even the movies, should be for people who want to want them, therefore cancelling these series means removing the choice for people who do want to watch them and love these characters. Of all the Disney+ TV series, very few of them actually have any impact on the movies; namely WandaVision, Ms Marvel, Falcon and Winter Solider. (Only now is Loki being following up in Avengers: Doomsday). Please don't tell me Moon Knight, Daredevil: Born Again, Echo, Agatha All Along, Hawkeye, Wonder-Man, She-Hulk, Werewolf-by-Night, Ironheart etc are homework for ANY of the movies. None of these shows' protagonists have appeared in ANY movie since (and most of them never even appeared again!) The difference is that the MCU made very clear, early on, that AoS is not canon and while the show tried to acknowledged the overall MCU, the MCU definitely did not acknowledge the show. I think Feige or someone said that Coulson being alive is never once going to be referenced in the movies. That for movie audiences, he's still dead. And I stopped watching AoS by the end but I think they didn't even bother incorporating Endgame. The Netflix shows were in the same gray area where they acknowledged the Chitauri Invasion but the movies never referenced them, up until Matthew Murdock in NWH. And I took that as more the MCU just cherry-picking what was popular from the Netflix shows and incorporating that, a bit like how Disney's Star Wars canon treats Legends. But as has been pointed out here by @Lego Nostalgia, Daredevil hasn't really been relevant to the movies at all so even Matt's appearance there is more like an easter egg cameo. I'm going to put this in spoilers about possible shows relevant to Doomsday/Secret Wars. Spoiler Agatha All Along will be important. Wiccan is going to be one of the Young Avengers in Secret Wars, with Vision as one of the main Avengers, and apparently the Maximoff family will be reunited in this movie. So Agatha All Along, plus the upcoming VisionQuest, would be relevant. I've heard She-Hulk is going to show up in Doomsday as one of the Avengers along with Hulk. Kate Bishop will also be part of the Young Avengers team so Hawkeye could be considered required viewing for introducing her, plus her friendship with Yelena. And it should be noted that She-Hulk and the Young Avengers were all seen in that leaked concept art from a year or two back. Quote

That's not really true, she has a lot more development and focus especially in the first 2. . That was my post lol and you're right. I meant more in the sense of the overall X-Mythos that Cyclops would be considered more essential to the X-Men than Rogue but in the movies, she definitely had a larger presence, especially in the first two. By the third one, she becomes more of a supporting character, basically a third wheel in the Bobby/Kitty love triangle. I read the original plot for her was to go undercover to join the Brotherhood. Gambit was also considered to show up, especially since X-Men: The Last Stand promoted itself as featuring every major mutant character ever, but Fox decided they wanted to save Gambit for a solo debut, hence saving him for Wolverine Origins. Otherwise you'll notice that The Last Stand made sure to either introduce, or upgrade to larger roles, every main X-Men character outside of Gambit (and Nightcrawler, since Alan Cumming left) such as Angel, Beast, Colossus, Kitty, Psylocke, Juggernaut, Callisto, Multiple Man, Leech, Moira MacTaggert, plus the background roles for Jubilee and Siryn as students carried on from X2. Rogue was also supposed to show up in The Wolverine and I've heard rumors she was considered for Logan as well. Quote
brickbride Posted yesterday at 05:34 AM Posted yesterday at 05:34 AM (edited) @JeanGreyForeverTo me the Kang stuff was when Loki went from okay to great. I don't much care for Sylvie, and even less for Kang, but the last few eps were genius, easily some of the best TV I,ve seen in a long time. I think GotG 3 did pretty well but yeah, nothing much else from phases 4-6 comes to mind. I agree that it's weird that te F4 movie didn't introduce Doom but I can see why they waited so long with introducing the F4 given that their movie is set in a different universe. They simply should have made a better movie. Not this sexist (even by already low Marvel standards) tripe with extremely one-note (again, even by Marvel standards) characters. No-one can be expected to care about Reed or the others after this, whereas people definitely cared about the Guardians (another ensemble cast) after one movie. Heck, I'd take half the individual Eternals over the F4 and the former got one movie for 10+ main charcters to share! Edited 21 hours ago by brickbride Quote

Audience member 1: What? I thought Vision died in IW! And who's the kids? Do you mean to tell me they were somehow fathered by a dead android? Audience member 2: Well you see, Wanda sort of resurrected him and sort of magicked herself up some kids with him, but then she un-resurrected him and un-magicked the kids. But then she went crazy - even crazier - and tried to steal the same kids only they were now from another universe. And she died, only not really. But as it turns out the government had built another Vision who now IS Vision. And as it turns out the soul of one of her un-magicked children still lived on in a random bystander's body, and then he found this really evil centuries-old witch with a motherhood complex that had also once been his babysitter, and they went to this place that doesn't actually exist ... you know what, it's a long story. Anyway she helped him transplant his twin's soul into another random bystander's body. And then the twin went and did Feige knows what with the new Vision, and here we are. It all makes sense when you think of it. Do you have any questions? Edited yesterday at 06:13 AM by brickbride Quote

Heck, I'd take half the individual Eternals over the F4 and the latter got one movie for 10+ main charcters to share! I do need to go ahead and finish the series before Doomsday comes out. Kang never worked for me, especially after they had Ant-Man, of all characters, beat him and he was supposed to be our big bad. Yeah GOTG Vol. 3 was one of the few exceptions since it was a sequel to their Phase 1-3 movies. If I'm correct, that was Disney's only hit film in 2023, the year they were celebrating their 100th anniversary and all their films flopped outside of GOTG. The alternative universe thing was a mistake imo. It just made the team come across as even more artificial and alien to us, since they weren't from the MCU or our world. The MCU at least resembles our world, just with superheroes and a few additional countries like Sokovia and Wakanda, but other than that, it's meant to represent us. With the FF, using that very clinical and 50s theming created a disconnect. It's another reason why I felt the 2007 Rise of the Silver Surfer movie did a better job of creating the impending threat of Galactus because the FF's world there was our world. We saw our people and our locations and in our contemporary time and watched them suffer the end of the world. With the MCU movie, it seemed like Marvel just listened to fan requests that they use a 50s/60s theme for the FF since nobody thought they'd be relevant in the current day and age and by doubling down on that, Marvel just proved that everyone was right and the FF really aren't relevant to modern audiences. It wouldn't make sense to have the villains with Tobey but these films are dumb enough to do that.If it was real and cut it's kinda wild Dafoe and Molina shot stuff for these characters that will never be seen. Well yeah, that's the big issue. The X-Men have multiveral transport gubbins and they use it just to kill other people to save themselves. They don't even try evacuating people or anything. They never tried stopping them. They just reinforce all the issues we talked about with how the genre is written and how most X-men adaptations highlight the ugly parts more than any other heroes. And yeah, that's the big thing. There was already some discussion about the X-Men's likeability rearing it's head post BND, but this film will frame them purely as doing active evil WHILE trying to tell you they're just desperate heroes in a bad situation. It's not a misunderstanding, they are just only interested in self preservation and don't consider anyone else's well being as valuable. They just are not heroes, by definition, in this film. BUT, the third act will beg you to consider them as such which will make audiences resent them more. Already everyone who hears the leaks thinks that Mutant's have whatever they get coming because it absolutely plays into the worst versions of the characters where they are functionally a nation state getting mad when people don't treat them like an oppressed minority. I think you might have a point with it being able to launch the new team, but that depends on the writers and directors being able to tell they've written villains, this team has struggled with that before. If they had the core cast of the next one be like: Tobey, Tom, Hugh and Sadie with Wolverine subscribing to the flaws of the Fox X-Men and Sadie learning from the Spideys to not repeat those then the criticisms here don't matter. Hell, the horrible Fox roster makes more sense then because they've went with characters who the audience doesn't care for or ones who are intentionally pretty morally warped. Do we trust this creative team to do that though? And yeah, that's what I meant. The final stand is them? Like Nightcrawler is a good example, they're using him and that makes sense because he was a memorable small role. Genuinely, why bother bringing back Fraiser and Sonic's dad, no one cares for them. Replace both with Storm and then she'd actually be a character audiences were attached to at the end. Hallie Berry wanted to return. Reinforces the weird glass cliff stuff with the MCU. Women and Minorities can be the focus of the disosable streaming stuff but even the most disposable, unremarkable white guys from the old films get to hijack the plot. Like people care for Tobey and Hugh, that's fair game but once again, Cyclops? Spoiler For me, including the villains with Tobey was purely a fanservice thing. They weren't going to bother and care if it makes sense to the plot or not and what they've established in prior movies. I wonder if another issue was that they realized having two characters with metal armor or metal tentacles didn't quite work if you set them up against the Master of Magnetism. The ironic thing is after reading your post about the X-Men's lack of efforts, I came across more leaks. And one of them says that Reed decides the technology used to repel Galactus can be used to repel the universes from each other and keep them from colliding. So we do see the FF's world and the MCU actually come up with a safe way to save the multiverse without resorting to nuking different universes. It's just the X-Men who never considered something like that. I wonder if a factor here is also that the Fox universe was always much more grounded and itty-gritty. They didn't have the cosmic adventures or enemies that the Avengers or FF faced. On top of that, even their genius characters like Beast, Xavier and Magneto weren't really on the same genius level as say Tony Stark or Reed Richards who are constantly shown inventing something remarkable and world-shaking. The idea of using the FoX-Men to paint them in a negative way and to usher in the MCU X-Men as more heroic, so they win over the audience instead over the FoX-Men, is probably more speculation on my part. I don't think he plans it as much as that, an example being him confirming that Sadie's Jean in BND was not part of any mandate he enforced. It was the director who wanted to include Jean, while looking for a telepathic villain, and Feige gave him the thumbs up to do whatever he wanted. And since Feige's first work was with the FoX-Men and he was directly involved in the original trilogy and that cast, I think that also makes it less likely he's trying to purposefully portray them as evil or amoral in order to boost his new lineup. Maybe when the film comes out, it'll be more obvious what his intentions are here, but I think he's just writing them this way for plot purposes, specifically because he thinks nothing would be cooler for fans than seeing the Foxverse vs Raimiverse, the two that really set up Marvel movies, and killing off one universe. And it's easier to kill off the Raimiverse since you really only need Tobey to survive that whereas you'd ideally want a handful or so characters from the Foxverse. Even in terms of the roster picked, it seems to me that Marvel picked who they thought were the fan favs plus the ones who don't severely pose a threat to Doom. This might be the Russos more than Feige but the Russos have shown that outside of Thor, they don't really know how to write super powerful characters up against their big bad. Hence why this X-Men team is so underpowered outside of Magneto and maybe Xavier. Beast, Nightcrawler, Mystique, Gambit, etc. are all audience fan favs (some moreso than others) and none of them will severely impact the plot in terms of power levels. 3 of them are blue and that's what audiences remember, that most of the X-Men wore blue makeup so that's more or less how cohesive this team lineup is. They'll see a blue mutant and remember that from 2 decades ago. I can understand Beast since not only is he one of the more iconic X-Men, especially from the 90s cartoon (hence him being the first X-Man we meet, to set up Doomsday and the multiverse) but he was also well received in X-Men: The Last Stand. And much like Nightcrawler, we never really see his iteration of the character again, outside of a 2 second cameo in DOFP. And I read Kelsey Grammer wasn't even asked back for DOFP. He was in touch with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart and learned they were filming for DOFP so through them, he got himself included in the movie for that final scene. Maybe he did the same thing here lol. And in terms of character, the younger version of Beast was always a lead in all the rebooted movies, along with Xavier, Magneto and Mystique. Although it's notable that he never left much of an impact, despite starring in multiple films, whereas the Grammer version resonated more with audiences even with only one movie. For Storm, I think it goes back to the Russos not knowing how to write powerful characters (outside of Thor, since they make him so comedic that they can downplay his powers up until the final battle), let alone powerful female characters. I do think we'll see Storm or a Storm in Secret Wars. Feige has talked a lot about Cynthia Erivo and she's said playing Storm is her childhood dream, so my guess is we could see Cynthia play a Storm variant. Maybe the Marvel What If? version. Quote

There's a reason there's been no Wolverine recasting rumors. I think after what happened post-Endgame, Feige is going to be much stricter about retaining these A-list actors since recasting or replacing them with new heroes did not work in Phases 4-6. And apparently Chris said that even after Endgame, Feige was trying to bring him back immediately. Not as Captain America but just as Steve Rogers, and Chris is the one who said no because he didn't feel the time was right or any of the projects offered suited him. That he'd only come back if he felt it made sense for the character. So I have a strong feeling that Chris Evans is here to stay after SW (particularly since his film career outside of Marvel didn't really work), but the caveat will be that he's not allowed to be Captain America since they've given that mantle to Sam. Which I find somewhat ironic that Sam could be Captain America for more than three phases and thus longer than Steve was Captain America. Rumor has it that Sam will still be cap after SW, Steve won't be around, which is stupid, why bring Tony back when Steve won't be cap, in my opinion, you need Tony and Steve, they were the face of the MCU Quote
Lego Nostalgia Posted yesterday at 10:41 AM Posted yesterday at 10:41 AM (edited) Personally I always had this dream of a MCU where Hugh as Wolverine, Ryan as Deadpool, Jon as Punisher, RDJ as Iron Man and Chris as Cap would interact, now we can't really have that because Steve is just Steve now, this ruins so much story telling because imagine you could have Punisher meet Cap and actually respect him even though he's in a costume because he respects him as a Soldier like in the comics, that won't work with Sam. Whenever someone says Captain America, you only think of Steve, no one else, people think the Mantle is the reason we love the character but no, it's the person who has it, the original. He probably steals other people's ideas telepathically and then makes them forget they had them, he totally seems the type. Personally I'm more invested in Dafoe's Goblin and Doc Ock than Tobey, especially after NWH. Killing them off now, especially Dafoe, seems like a travesty. And would also totally ruin Tobey's part of the ending of NWH, make Aunt May's death utterly senseless, and negate the movie's entire "Everybody deserves a second chance" message. I have good news for you- I've been keeping fairly up to date on the rumors and leaks and there have been conflicting reports as to whether or not they (and a number of other characters from various universes) are in it. That's not to say they can't be- everyone who's ever been in any live-action marvel property has been rumored at some point- but I believe I saw a fairly reliable leaker the other day explicitly say they weren't. If I had to guess (and this is a guess, I've seen a few people here mention the third act but I haven't seen anything on that beyond how it starts) there is probably some sort of scene at the end where various characters from other universes are watching the incursions/their universes get destroyed and inevitably get folded into Battleworld so we can do a Secret Wars, and that's where all these rumors are coming from. A scene like that you could go as far as including someone like Dick Purcell's Captain America (intentionally chose someone that literally cannot be in the movie unless they pull some The Flash type CGI monstrosities). BrickBob Studpants Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Well yeah, with the way Secret Wars is set up it’s more of a spoiler if someone doesn’t show up, since they’ll clearly try to get everyone to join who isn’t dead and can’t run away fast enough Still, I’d rather everyone use spoiler tags Quote
