Legacy Raimi sets presumably will be complete in Q1 2027, we'll have all the core versions of characters except for possibly Harry Osborn/New Goblin, which we may not get. Though if we got something like this I'd buy a bunch for the printed board pieces and Pumpkin Bomb wall. Completing the Raimi sets should open the door to them shifting to other Legacy movies and I think you could pretty much do the TASM franchise in a singular TASM2 'Final Battle' style set. So at that point, where do they go from there?

Knowing the Q1 2027 sets so far reported on, personally the core things I'd like now are:

  • Doc Ock Hideout: Doc Ock, Mary Jane, Spider-man, John Jameson (If we're not getting Harry Osborn)
  • TASM2 Final Battle: Spider-man, Electro, Green Goblin, Rhino, Gwen Stacy, Captain Stacy
  • Iron Man Malibu Mansion: Tony Stark, Maya Hansen, MK1, MK2 (Rhodey Head), MK3, MK4, MK5, MK6, MK7, MK42 (Pepper Potts Head), MK21 (Works as a 20th Anniversary suit)

I feel like the Raimi sets are popular enough that we could definitely get more than just one per movie. The Doc Ock hideout set is a great example. Also wondering if, when the Daily Bugle retires, if Marvel might consider remaking it in another D2C set but one based on the Raimi movie. It has a very different exterior which would make it stand out and they could basically include the entire trilogy's lineup of characters. Would also be a perfect companion set to a D2C Oscorp set based on TASM movies. They could shoehorn in Raimi Harry or his New Goblin incarnation in either one of these sets.

TASM is also probably the most likely to get Lego set adaptations, besides the FoX-Men movies. Even though TASM isn't as popular as the Raimi movies, there was a new wave of nostalgia for TASM after NWH, particularly since Andrew Garfield's portrayal was considered the highlight of that movie. And to this day, we've never gotten a civilian Gwen Stacy minifigure (the Daily Bugle version is literally just a random minifigure they named Gwen Stacy at the last minute), so I think any set from TASM could easily feature her. People loved the Peter/Gwen dynamic in those movies thanks to Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Aside from all of that yes these designs would make for incredibly boring minifigures. But if sets of these movies do release I'll eat my words and question if I even know what Lego's strategy is anymore.

I see that, but wouldn't it then be way more exciting to create sets based on the X-men animated show since those designs are actually good / colourful?

I think people forget that the characters weren't in black leather all the time. Wolverine is just as iconic in his wifebeater with dog tags or in a leather jacket from those movies. We've never gotten a civilian Wolverine minifig surprisingly so he'd be very easy to implement. Jean has her red Dark Phoenix outfit from The Last Stand, which isn't far off from Wanda's Scarlet Witch outfit. Mystique has the iconic nude look since we know in Doomsday she's wearing an actual costume. Angel would be very easy to do since he's just shirtless with wings. I see plenty of MOC FoX-Men minifigures online so there must be some demand. The black leather looks are also identical enough from character to character that they could be easily reused. Something like Lady Deathstrike in her black outfit would be much easier to adapt than her classic comic outfit.

The show doesn't get enough traction in terms of views. It's a very niche show which is why I don't think Lego is going forward with more sets. The ratings were good for an animated show on Disney+ but even the highest-watched animated shows don't come close to the lowest-watched live-action shows. I think X-Men '97 matched What If? and it's not like we have set after set of the What If? series. Or sets on the low-watched live-action shows like Secret Invasion or Echo or Ms. Marvel, which all still have been seen way more than X-Men '97.

Even with the newly released season 2 of X-Men '97, it's been notable that there hasn't been much media attention. I'm seeing a lot less discussions online, whether on Twitter or Reddit or any social media, compared to the first season. Even here, I remember when the first season came out, there were weekly discussions about the show with every new episode. But S2's 3-episode premiere hasn't gotten any discussion in this thread so I think there's definitely been a noticeable viewer drop. Which is a pity, because Lego's X-Men lineup really feels incomplete without Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Angel/Archangel, Colossus, and Psylocke. Not to mention the lack of any villains outside of Magneto.

Well... isn't nostalgia exactly the reason he's bringing them back? Same as Tobey and Andrew in NWH. (And only Tobey has gotten sets so far, because the ASM films aren't as well-regarded)

Honestly as someone who never watched them growing up, from what I've seen of them I much prefer First Class and Days of Future Past to the original trilogy of X-men movies.

But aside from that, I think if anything they would sell worse than just straight up comic X-men sets. The designs are uniform, low-color jumpsuits- like if the avengers had worn the quantum realm suits all the way from 2012 to infinity war- and most of the figs would just be 1 or 2 torso designs with a kitbashed head and hair. Your average kid would probably much rather have the ones that resemble unique superhero costumes, and I think even a lot of people with nostalgia for the X-men movies also have it for the 90s cartoon and/or the comics. I think in most cases, if the show/comic X-men sets aren't selling, there's not much of a reason for lego to assume Fox ones would. There's also really only one choice for a set (Whatever you think of them, they aren't Endgame or NWH, they can't get away with the statue of liberty's disembodied head or random rubble as the build) with the Blackbird... in which case I think it's just a safer choice to do a comic or MCU blackbird.

I think the fact that there's nostalgia for the previous Spider-Man characters and the FoX-Men shows that there is demand for these characters. NWH and Doomsday both heavily marketed themselves on bringing back these original characters. That same nostalgia doesn't exist for the 2005 FF (even though I far prefer them to the MCU FF), Ben Affleck's Daredevil, Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Nicholas Cage's Ghost Rider, Thomas Jane's Punisher, etc. Which is why some of these characters have had cameos, like the Chris Evans Torch or Elektra, but they weren't used to shoulder a whole movie the way the Raimi/ASM or FoX-Men movies were.

I personally never liked First Class. It didn't feel like an X-Men movie at all and it wasn't supposed to since it was meant to be a soft reboot after the Wolverine Origins movie failed and killed plans for more sequels and spinoffs. However, the film underperformed because audiences rejected the lack of the original cast. This is why Fox went straight to DOFP, bringing back the original cast, since they knew that was the hook. Suddenly, the soft reboot became a merging of the two universes and it worked because DOFP became the X-Men's highest-grossing movie. And I'm guessing a lot of Feige's decision-making in having the FoX-Men back in Doomsday is because he saw that DOFP was promoted as a last hurrah for the original cast and that helped the film succeed unlike the other installments which flopped with the new cast. Notice too that Doomsday isn't bringing back any of the rebooted characters from First Class.

The X-Men's primary existence in pop culture has always been from two main sources: the 90s TV show and the FoX-Men movies, particularly the original trilogy, which succeeded in a time when superhero movies were still in their infancy and there was no MCU. Movies like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, GOTG, Black Panther, etc. would not exist without the FoX-Men trilogy paving the way. There's a reason that for Doomsday, we're seeing that original movie cast but in the 90s outfits because they're essentially merging the two most well-known X-Men iterations. If the X-Men '97 sets aren't selling, I think it has more to do with the fact that the comic versions of the X-Men haven't been relevant in ages (literally since the 90s) and the new show doesn't have that large an audience. The Fox movies might still have a larger reach, at least after Doomsday. I think Lego is going to wait and see, the way they did with Raimi sets only after NWH was a success. Most of the merchandise I'm seeing for Doomsday has been X-Men centered. I think in part because Marvel has seen that Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four are not capable of carrying a movie and their merch isn't selling. Hence why Lego skipped Thunderbolts completely and only gave us one FF set. This is also why from day 1, I was saying that I don't think we're going to get a Baxter Building D2C set anytime soon. The FF are not a proven property and Lego is going to wait to see if they can became more popular with films like Doomsday/Secret Wars. Which is even what Marvel said, that despite FF not being the success they expected, they hope audiences will warm up to them after Doomsday/Secret Wars. Even the Sanctum Sanctorum D2C set only released after MoM. Lego didn't make it immediately after the first Doctor Strange. They must have seen that the character increased in popularity due to Infinity War and then NWH and that he was capable of headlining a modular set.

76347 set details via Unibricks:

Spoiler

76347: Sentinel Battle
Brick-Built Sentinel. Display base featuring a damaged Sentinel Head & X-Mansion sign.
Figures: Doctor Doom, Thor, Mystique, Mr Fantastic, Magneto, Nightcrawler

Interestingly enough 76347 was the one rumoured to be the vehicle set, so I guess it's unlikely that we're getting the Fantastic Four ship in this wave.

It means the remaining mystery sets are:

  • 76348 - 846 Pieces, $99.99 - originally stated as being an 'Epic Moments Set'
  • 76352 'Doomsday Modular Building/Avengers Tower?' - 954 Pieces, $109.99

Yeah, TASM seems like it could be next, it's just got little left to adapt. We've technically had Rhino before or attempts to do so with figures that kinda fit and varying mechs, Lizard with NWH, and Electro was in a polybag, they could probably re-do Electro and give us Harry's Green Goblin and Gwen and that'd be enough. Fox-Verse X-Men honestly might be best to skip around to the more iconic or noteworthy entries: X-Men 2000 set, X-Men: The Last Stand set, X-Men: First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past set.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THAT (minor spoiler if true)

Spoiler

the "Magneto destroys new jersey" leak

Is getting a set. The greatest thing to grace cinema screens since morbius. (Though I believe the new leaks state that said action actually occurs during - major spoiler if true-

Spoiler

the opening scene where Deadpool and Wolverine fight Tobey while Magneto destroys the raimiverse

instead)

That is interesting. I hope the $109.99 set is still the Thunderbolts Tower (and comes with the bolts themselves). $99.99 set is what I assumed this would be, so now I don't know what it is. A playscale F4 ship?

Finally, although like you said, they won't fit in with the X-Men '97 designs.

Is that rumor supposed to be for the opening of Doomsday or for Secret Wars?

this seems to further confirm to me that Lego is holding back on the Fantastic Four for a reason. To not even get a single set with their ship really indicates that Lego doesn't feel they're profitable enough to carry their own set. Wonder if this means the Galactus set undersold.

All good choices. I still think Oscorp would be the best bet for ASM2. We're due a new Spider-Man modular after the Daily Bugle, and an Oscorp Tower would be the next best choice as TASM films are the ones with the most iconic rendition of Oscorp. And like you said, Harry's Green Goblin and Gwen haven't had any minifig representation yet so any set that could feature them would be a likely choice. Electro seems the most likely to redo since he got a lot more popularity after NWH.

I don't think First Class has any iconic setpieces or locations. DOFP was Sentinel-themed so it wouldn't really add anything that we aren't already getting from Doomsday with Sentinels. Maybe the future Sentinels in the Himalayas, since their design is at least different? Or the Quicksilver scene since that's rather iconic.

Doomsday.

Spoiler

I believe we currently don't know if any of the announced-as-returning X-men are coming back in secret wars, only Deadpool, Wolverine, and Sadie Sink.

The current rumor is that the Foxverse destroying the Raimi verse is to start Doomsday off with a bang in the first few minutes. Most of the first act is the F4 and 616 heroes assembling, second act is Avengers vs X-men into both teams vs Doom, and third act is Doom trying to kill and supplant Loki. Allegedly the end is only a few heroes remaining on the Life Raft while Doom remakes the rest of reality, with it being revealed that Loki saved Deadpool, Wolverine, and Tobey Maguire and put them on the raft.

We did get Herbie, and we don't know what that $100 set will be. I'm not sure how many options there are aside from the F4 ship- I doubt we get a playscale tower AND a playscale X-mansion, and I'm not sure what else they'd even do here.

Nightcrawler and Mystique , what are their Doomsday looks? I mean, we all want them to pair with the mansion of course.

I hope Reid is maybe a build himself or has the stretchy arms.

From what I’ve seen, they appear to be their Fox-Men versions with Mystique wearing white robes similar to her comic costume and Nightcrawler wearing a black costume with a red “X” across the chest. Nightcrawler also seems to have white hair.

I personally don’t think either would look good with the comic X-Men, but I’m also a bit more of a purist.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t get Cyclops, but then again, I’d have thought if any set included him it would be this one.

As for the rumored opening, I doubt we’ll get anyone who wasn’t in the initial announcement aside from maybe Steve, but only because his role was announced early enough for Lego to include him.

Also, it’s quite funny to have Doom immediately be included in the first playset we hear details about, after people got miffed over Doom allegedly being exclusive to the bust :snicker: Sure, the two minifigs could be different, but I knew it was a bit of an overreaction

I find it ironic that the bust, a set ostensibly for those who want a display piece outside of the minifigure-affiliated playsets, just happens to have the most desirable version of the Doom minifigure anyway with the arm printing.

That said, I find it weird that the head print for the Doom minifigure in the bust is different from the minifigure that leaked a few weeks ago. Maybe that was the playset version and we can still expect an arm-printed Doom in the normal playsets?

The Sentinel Battle sounds AWESOME, totally called that being a set, not that it took any stretch of the imagination. Cyclops not being included is perplexing though.

Wish the details for the remaining two Doomsday sets would just leak out now. Why so piecemeal?

I’d rather we don’t get arm printing for normal set Doom than having that ugly faceprint from the earlier leaks

If Cyclops is any indication they'll be pretty comic accurate.

A Reed build sounds incredibly cursed but I agree that he should have the stretchy arms.

I think there's a really good chance we get the Sentry alongside the other bolts in the New Avengers Tower set.

If it really is real, which there've been enough people corroborating and expanding the leak for me to believe, there is 0 chance we don't see a set in May/June 2028. If lego's smart and not legally prevented from doing so, they'll already have one of their guys moccing some fig designs and a generic base up right now so they can shoot for an earlier date.

He has to be the single easiest MCU hero for lego to make, ever. Forget not needing a leg print, realistically he wouldn't even need a TORSO print- though I'm sure they'll do one anyway.

If this was one of the previous recent years for Lego Marvel, I would make some snarky comment how printing some lines on a black torso would absolutely bankrupt the theme’s budget. But this has been such a good year that I can’t even say that.

Yeah agreed, he’s been featured prominently in one of the trailers and everyone with a pulse knows how popular Cyclops is. I’d be surprised if he isn’t in one of the other sets.

Shame he’s not in the Sentinel set though, only because the display-oriented nature of the Epic Moments sets means we’ll miss out on a sick build of Cyclops unleashing his optic blasts.

I retain the hope that this is just someone seeing U.S.Agent thinking it was a different character OR that it's not actually based on the movie... but yeah, I can buy it being accurate so spoiler tagged to be safe.
