idlemarvel Posted June 10 Posted June 10 That was quick off the mark. Very nice tank loco. If you made it 0-4-4 you could maybe put a train motor underneath? Quote

zephyr1934 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 As everyone else said, nice MOD to the steam train. But if the rear wheel is fixed to the frame it could have troubles on R40 curves. It might need a "swing" to let the main engine remain centered on the drivers while the rear axle pivots out Quote
Dav1d Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I have noticed that 60511 Vintage Steam Train is available from most large retailers in the UK - LEGO store, Amazon, Argos, Smyths, The Entertainer & John Lewis. But 60509 the Harbour Freight Train is only available from the LEGO store. I wonder if that is a deliberate decision, do they think the stream will be more popular? Quote

It looks nice, but it'll pivot strangely given the offset of the three fixed pair of wheels. Edited June 11 by Selander Quote

In the Netherlands, both sets are available in the toy stores. Price difference is not big yet for the harbour train, the steam one you can get at nearly 20 euro off. Quote

It's available at The Entertainer now. Quote

I get why they couldn't fit the hub in the loco but: a) the train will run backwards if you use the remote control + button b) the hub is "bricked in" and you have to dismantle the container to change batteries Both of these issues could have been addressed with a bit more thought. Time for some "alt-alt" instructions! I built a replica of the PUP enabled #60509 0-4-0 shunter with the motor direction swapped around (so that the remote + button makes the loco go forwards) and it works fine. Short video below. I don't know why LEGO didn't do it this way, like they did with the recent #10361 Holiday Express Train. For the bricked in hub all they had to do was use a few tiles instead of bricks underneath the hub, then it can be easily slid in and out of the container to turn it on/off or change batteries. Not sure they tested this alt build! As you will see my colour choice is limited to the parts I have - my homage to set #60198 Cargo Train! There's more than enough length to the cable to reach the container with the hub. You need to remove the 2X8 Technic plate to make room for the cable but the rest of the build is more or less as per instructions. Same cab interior, and room for the dummy engine (raised a plate to avoid the motor cable). EDIT: I reported this issue to TLG and they have acknowledged the problem. We'll see what happens. Murdoch17 Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Nice work @Darkkostas25 on that uncommon Adriatic type (2-6-4) steam loco! Keep up the good work! Quote
