Looking at the missing parts lists on lego.com, the Vintage Train passenger car and Harbour Train wagons use metal axles. The Tram uses Technic axles.

FYI The #60506 Classic Beach Tram does have 10 studs between the wheel axles (11 studs axles centre to centre if you prefer). I can confirm this from a partial virtual build of the model.

Nice analysis. However, just FYI, I think your build is a little of—I'm pretty sure the axles are centered on offset Technic bricks (i.e. 1x2 with one hole, etc.). The same spacing as you have, but shifted half a stud to one side (so that the wheels have the same distance from the front and back of the tram).

I stand corrected on the issues I brought up. Thank you @idlemarvel for setting the record straight! However, regarding the digital model, I believe @Lyichir is correct on the tram's wheel arrangement, judging from the set pictures we have available at this time.

Thanks, you're probably right. I'll make the change when I get the chance, but it won't be long before we have the real thing! I have one on pre-order.

Lego/Bricklink put the final Series 8 pictures online this morning, including final pictures of the Brick Railroad Locomotive. There are some subtle changes that make it look quite a bit better in my opinion, mainly around the curves on the front, and the headlight.

Either way I'm in for two - and if I can get my hands on another two to make a B unit, that'd be awesome.

Yeah, at that price, I think these may sell out quickly.  Does the BDP still have a two set limit?  (Just saw on the site they do have a 2 set limit.  For some reason, I thought they lifted that restriction.  Oh, well...)

The BDP set looks brilliant, but honestly it’s so similar to Tony Sava’s EMD F7 design available on Brick Train Depot that I’m not fussed with getting it and would rather do one in a livery I chose (I’m thinking GNR…).  I do think it’s got some nice techniques though and I may modify the F7 with some of those (particularly thinking of the corner curved slopes on the bonnet).

Looks like b-unit instructions are coming soon, and the set includes extra stickers for extra units. A nice touch.

I like to read what the se designers say about their sets on their Bricklist on BrickSet. See this one on LEGO 60509 Harbour Freight Train | Brickset by Adam Grabowski LEGO Sets designed by Adam Grabowski (aka Misterzumbi) | Brickset (scroll to the bottom of the page). I liked the bit where he says it looks best with a 9V motor - that is what I will be using.  

This is one of the most exciting sets I’ve ever worked on.... It’s also one of the sets I’m most happy with overall.

The brief asked for a push train only, but halfway thru the development it turned out that it’s fairly easy to make this thing motorised if we make a small compromise, which was to place the hub in the container riding on the first train car, with the power cord hanging out back....

Obviously, as this set is fuelled by train nostalgia of the past 40 years, this will accept every train motor or couplings LEGO ever made, and looks best with the 9V motor.

Liking this new approach from lego. Push train brief is ok. I got enough motors, now you can start playing with part packs and make your own version. Powered or unpowered.

Definitely getting that steam train and rework the passenger section.

So after having a good look at the trains released this year, I think I'm one of the very few to say that I actually am impressed with the way Lego is releasing newer trains now. They come as push-along vehicles by default, but this can be changed with Power Functions. I actually don't mind the push-along play trend as it offers more playability. The set that I plan on getting for my town is that steam train that is supposed to come stateside in August.

Actually, probably more than a few folks agree... who knows, it might even be a majority. It is good to see the city trains have a much lower cost entry point.

Alex Nunes on YouTube has managed to get a hold of both of the new trains, and reviewed them. I really can't wait for the freight train especially, it's really exciting.

That steamer needs some modification for that hub, but overall it looks better than I expected. Carriage also needs to be beefed up but I am liking it.

The cargo shunter looks good but I hate that it needs the hub in a wagon. But that's just be cause I want it powered. I struggled with a similar shunter design myself too and the hub. It feels a lot like an old 9v shunter. But for kids playing around at a train yard I may not even need to be powered indeed.

How did he get his hands on those trains? Those are not supposed to come until June (August for the US).

He mentioned at the end that TLG sent an advance copy, it's not unusual for those to arrive a week or two before release (seemingly, the earliest release date).

I thought I was going to enjoy the steam train more but after watching those reviews, I think I'll actually pick up the shunter first!

What did cross my mind: buying 2 would get you a four-wagon train, and should give enough parts to mod the shunter into a bigger 4-axle loco, which the power hub could probably sit inside. I'm not sure I'll do it myself but I'm almost expecting someone here will!

Lego bloder and official LAN member, like some other bloggers, have early access to sets and interviews with designers and some insight; they got even earlier but may show when official pictures are released, and then the embargo is off.
Waiting for a video about a vintage tram. I want all of them and slightly modify them too

True that is possible. You can make it like a big V60 locomotive. Front end for the hub, those doors at the side of the hub. Use some slopes to round of the top. Hub will be pretty 'fixed' so changing batteries is shit. The cab can stay relative similar I reckon, kind of depends on the overall height. You cant the windows to be just at or tad lower than the front nose. Rear end can be short 6 studs rectangular. You would need a proper train base to make it the easiest, but indeed good catch it can be done. Maybe a few parts from your own collection. A hub is 5 bricks? And those doors at the side will be 3 or 4 high, so you need something in between before you use slopes to round off the top. There is an old 9V train (green one) that looks fairly similar you can use as reference.
