Availability of Cafe Corner, Green Grocer etc & sets in general?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody knows how long sets usually are purchasable from the legoshop, I'm eyeing sets like Cafe Corner and Green Grocer which have been around for quite some time now. Considering their exclusivity they may last longer than normal sets.

Does anyone know how long sets last in the online store and if sets are taken off, are fans given any notice prior? I don't want to miss out on the above two sets before my budget allows me to purchase them...Cafe Corner is pretty old now though!

I don't know, but although I'm not sure if it is included in your wish list, just to note that Market Street has been gone to Sold Out about 3 times on S@H for Ireland at least - yet it is currently back again.

If you want to buy 10182 Cafe Corner to retailer price you got six months to save up before prices will increase significantly. Because the info I have specifies that it will be cancelled at 31/12 2009. According to the same source 10185 Green Grocer will last until the same date but in 2011. I also have an ending date for 10193 Medieval Market Village which is end of 2012.

Don't have anything on 10190 Market Street but I assume it'll end either this year or in the end of 2010.

So I guess you can expect that the LEGO exclusiveswill have a lifespan of about 2 - 3 years. And It's likely that

Normally a legoset will be 3 years available. Sometimes sets stays only 1 year. If you want it very badly, I susgest to buy it soon as possible. Or take the risk for getting it cheaper or you have to buy it far more expensive if it's out of stock from lego itself.

These sets will be worth gold in about 10 years, I guess.

We've bought a Green Grocer and a Market Street within the last month. As far as the Green Grocer goes, I believe they're not planning on cancelling it just yet - it was, after all, the last addition to the Modular Sets line and with the fire station coming out later this year, I don't think TLG would only want to have 1 modular set on the shelves in 2010.

That said, I'm pretty sure Market Street is nearing the end of production, especially bearing in mind the amount of times it's been "sold out" in recent months. It's currently back in stock @ shop@home in Europe, but not available for the USA and I'd expect it to be sold once again over there for a few months before it's officially over with. Mind you, there have been a few recent pics of the Modular Sets line which don't include the Market Street. But at the end of the day, it has had its lengthy run having come out back in 2007 (unlike, for example, the 10183 Hobby Trains, which was only available for a year or so).

I hope they're not getting the Cafe Corner off the shelves anytime soon, because we still need to save up in order to get that one (vacation comes first though :) ).

One other set I'm curious about is the 10184 Town Plan - do you guys think it will be available much longer? Mirandir, do you have any info on that set? Thanks in advance!

I have to admit that I'm some time confused by Lego Shop at Home "Out of Stock" policy.

I wanted a 10190 - Market Street for quite some time and I decided myself to buy it on shop@home a couple of weeks ago.

Then I noticed it was "out of stock"... So I began to seracj Bricklink & Ebay but I became available again on Lego store website.

I did not event have time to complete my order that it once more went "out of stock". So I give them a call a very nice guy told me that this set won't be available again and that I really should look on Bricklink.

So I did, and got my set. Well, I paid some extra bucks but I'm fine with that (my fault, I should have decided my self months ago)...

But again, it's now available on shop at home !!!!

Well, I don't mind getting stuff on Bricklink but I would prefer save some money and get the stuff directly from Lego.

I think you should contact LEGO by mail and explain your issue. Mention the price difference you paid to get it on Bricklink and the date and time you called their service desk. Maybe they'll do something to apologize for the wrong info they shared.

In the US at least, the Market Street is gone from the Web site and the closest Lego store says they won't be getting any more.

Not sure how it works, but Lego must find a few cases of recently discontinued sets sometimes. For example, some of the first Indiana Jones sets recently returned to S@H only to be discounted and sold out again in a matter of days.

I had been eyeing Market Street as well although it's on the lower end of the list. Looks like that one will be the first off the stores. I'm just fresh of having purchased the emerald train pack so I'm going to postpone and see if I get lucky buying it in August or later. I did look how easy it might be to build market street from scratch and there aren't too many unique bricks, still much cheaper to buy the original.

BTW great replies and information!

If the Batman lesson holds true, the prices on these will be ridiculous once they are no longer available through Lego. Like, 2 to 3x current price.

Very good topic since I hope Cafe Corner and Town Plan won't be out of stock to soon. If Cafe Corner really won't be available after Dec. 31st this year, I'm fine with that. I'm going to buy it some time in the last three months of this year. But I'm always afraid they'll be sold out before I get a copy.

I'm sorry but I have no info about any other sets. The dates above were given to me whilst being indecisive about what set to buy. And I must say that they made me make up my mind. But 10184 Town Plan was released just last year so I think it should be available for at least one more year.

In the US at least, if you look at Amazon it lists the Green Grocer as a "discontinued" item on the product page "Discontinued by manufacturer: Yes". (if you check other LEGO sets there you'll notice Amazon seems to accurately tell you which sets are out of production). Cafe Corner is not, yet. I also got an email from LEGO at the end of May telling me not to "miss" the chance to buy the Green Grocer. Maybe just a guess, but is the Green Grocer going away first maybe?

I was lucky enough to trade for a Green Grocer. Now I feel like I need to get Market Street and Cafe Corner, and now, Fire Brigade! Maybe I should just get rid of the Green Grocer. Curse you Lego!

I've always had my eye on the GG ever since it came out, though it's not looking like I'll be getting it anytime soon. :cry_sad:

I'm hoping they keep it in production for another year or two, but if worse comes to worse I'll just have to make do without it or try to trade for it later on.

I would be surprised if the Green Grocer ended before Cafe Corner since CC is older.

Noticed that in the most recent S@H catalog, the Town Plan was the only major set not in there (at least that I could tell). Harbinger of doom?

Back when Lego had the Legends sets 5 or so years ago, I learned the hard way not to put off buying a set I really wanted. I still regret not getting the re-release of Main Street and Black Falcon's Fortress (two of my favorite sets from my childhood). I kept saying "maybe next month" until, poof, they were gone.

Medium-Low

Thats how I see it.

Medium-Low what?

Could you be a little more specific as to what you mean?

The Life-span of sets like Castle, Indiana Jones, Star Wars and such is one and a half years. Most City sets like the hospital theme or exclusive items have a span of three years. Creator boxes, some City sets like fire brigade truck and vbaseplates seem to be immortal.

The Café was added in spring 2007, so I would say it will be canceled in Spring 2010. I would say you should order it as fast as you can.

Just when I 'm starting to build my street and have bought my first item (CC) I'm finding this topic and also seeing that marketstreet is already gone. :hmpf_bad:

Hopefully GG will stay on for a couple of months. Money isn't really an issue, convincing my wife buying all the Lego I want is...

Ah yes, nice to see I'm not the only one worrying about this.

I'm going to go to a LEGO store in the UK in august (Bluewater). (the pound is so low that I will save huge amounts of money, CC is 50 euros cheaper then on the continent, grand carousel 60 euros... ) I hope they will still have a copy of the Market Street.

Café Corner and Green Grocer will definetly stay till at least the end of the year I think, because they are both still advertised with the Fire Brigade, those sets belong together.

Really worried about market Street though... would hate it if I missed that. :cry_sad:

Well, I hope they will still have it in stock for you, I've e-mailed Lego with the question if Market Street will be made available again, but according to the reply I got yesterday MarketStreet is gone and will not return, completely sold out...
