------------------------------------------------------------------THE IDEA------------------------------------------------------------------ Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the horizon of all those treacherous dunes on Classic Space box art? Well, heck if I know -- BUT I can ask you a better question: how does one get there? CERTAINLY not with 6mm offset tread wheels mind you! Legend has it, as you progress deeper and deeper into the dunes, the sediment becomes darker and redder. Some believe this is because of a rich resource which lies deep beneath it, some say it leads to treasure, and others may warn that is home to the Insectoids... Personally I think its because I only had so many options to work with for backgrounds -- BUT the answer is up to you! ------------------------------------------------------------------THE CRAWLER------------------------------------------------------------------ Back to the big question, how does one cross those dunes? Well, the nerds over at Classic Space HQ (trans-green edition) have the answer! They came up with the legendary idea of slapping the biggest tires possible on the 6901 Mobile Lab, but then quickly realized the tire itself was far bigger than the lab, so they had to resort to an increased budget. They searched far and wide for whatever traditional light gray pieces they could find and were able to create a behemoth lab crawler ready to challenge the dunes themselves. It is time to discover and research what lies beyond them! The Mobile Lab's crew consists of one captain (red), two explorer scouts (yellow), two miners/analysts (green), two engineers (gray), and two scientists (white). Looks like the explorers found some rocks and gems to take back to study! The top portion opens up to reveal a radar, similar to the orignal set! The entryway is accessible from the engineer bay which holds a mini-mobile lab for scouting. The Captain's child wanted to tag along for fun! The lab also has a detachable net for all the dune loot! The entire lab is accessible with detachable segments. It consists of an engineer's bay with an airlock, a lab section with the radar, gear stash, and research station; a crew's quarters with showers for sandy suits, and finally a control room! Deep within the dunes, there are rare green crystals rather than the common gold. These crystals have been extraordinarily dangerous for the crew and even turned the 2nd-in-command feral. They must find a cure, quickly! One of the scanners in the control room shows something odd --- that CAN'T be, why is there a Blacktron warning on the radar? It must be a bug -- or could there be a secret infiltrator on board trying to steal the mysterious green crystal's power? Surely, things would get dire if Blacktron were to get their hands on those crystals... Lastly, the lab itself can fully detach for long-term research missions. I hope you all enjoyed! "We're on a mission from God." - The Blues Brothers I built this 1974 Dodge Monaco ex-cop car (AKA The Bluesmobile from the 1980 film "The Blues Brothers") from these free Rebrickable instructions by user @brickhead_07, but modified by me to fit two figures. (among other changes) I changed the inside details from tan to light bluish gray, and I had to raise the roof by a two plates to get the figures to fit. I also modified the bull-bar on the front of the car to be stronger. Sadly the Blues Brothers can't sit side by side, but the can fit one per row due to how the sides are built. Of course, what use is the Bluesmobile without a couple of Soul Men sitting inside? Now that I've covered the car and figures, Jake and Elwood have something to say in closing: "It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.... HIT IT! EDIT 12/28/22: real life photos added -
I've rebuilt this after a break of around 30 years. As a 9 year old I always wanted to do something more with the car and here it is, back seats. Hopefully, I'll motorise it and change the gear ratio so all 3 gears work. -
A little background. While my sets were mainly disassembled from the 1990's, the vehicles for the most part were NOT. Prior to the emergence of the World Wide Web. my mother had picked up a bunch of used lego at a garage sale for me. Until I acquired set 6395 (Victory Lap raceway) I was utilizing the funky window and hospital symbol pieces as wall and building window pieces. That is until I acquired a stretcher, then the gears in my adolscent brain started turning. That strecher especially with a person on it wasn't going to go in pretty with regular lego blocks as walls at the back of the ambulance??? I wonder if that's why these have the grooves and all of that?? Which took me to the rear end of the ambulance. The unfinished look of studs didn't appeal to me, so after much messing around. I ended up with the result that you see below: Even at that age I didn't want the slopped front window and rear window look so I blew my old flat windscreen on the front, the sunroof pieces don't look bad but sets like 6688 look bad to me. After looking at the pics, please don't point out the lack of QA on the stud gap on the middle of the hospital. So . . . I'm a little curious if the anyone can tell me if this was in an idea book or genuinely my own idea. I really like it regardless. As soon as I parked the ambulance beside the one from the 6380 my first reaction . . . . aside from cringing with the yellowing . . . "I have to moved the rear axle up further!!"

This is Benny the 1980-something Space Guy's apartment. It features a garage on the lower floor for his Lego Classic Space - styled Car. The style of the set is based off half of set 6390, a Classic Town set from 1980. (This set was re-released in 2003 under the short-lived Lego LEGENDS line as set 10041.) Also, unlike most of my buildings, Benny's apartment does not open like a dollhouse, but features removable levels to accesses the inside, much like a modular building. The numbers "60" should go on the stud next to the door, as provided by this piece: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=3070bpb003 The rear of the building is a solid brick wall. (now I'm thinking of that Pink Floyd song "Another Brick in The Wall") The lower floor features Benny's Classic Space-themed car. The upper floor features a layout with miniature buildings, a bed, side-table with lamp, computer, a micro-model of Benny's SPACESHIP! LEGO set and a 1980's telephone. This is my rendition of The Bluesmobile. A moc I made two years ago. I finally got the right parts to make not only one, but two Bluesbrothers. The car, an 'ex cop-car' 1974 Dodge Monaco is 7 studs wide which I find perfect for minifig/town/modular scale. Big enough to put in some detail, but small enough to still fit the streets of Legocity. It's got opening doors, hood, and trunk to show off a full interior, engine bay, and trunk. 'It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?'
