  1. I wonder if they'll get printed bricks-- stickers are hard enough WITH gravity, couldn't imagine putting them on without it
  2. I must say, of all the new sets we've seen thus far for 2011, my favorite (by far) is the 5766 Creator Block House aka the Log Cabin on the waterfront. I've been asking for something like this in Klaus's idea thread pretty much since I've been here and TLG delivered in a big way. Anyone else have a particular favorite?
  3. Any friend of City is a friend of mine-- welcome and, while you're welcome to be strange, don't be a stranger!
  4. Welcome, and I'm officially envious of all the modular sets you seem to already have.
  5. Yes, but don't you think we'll see much more of them next year?
  6. Looking at these new sets in hi-res, it's very quick to make irresponsible conclusions, both negative and positive. I just got into City in 2010 and grabbed both the old 7743 Mobile Command Center and the 7744 Police Headquarters, and YET I still find myself checking out that 7288 Police Truck and trying to rationalize spending the money on it. And then, I did something that put it all into perspective, and I'd recommend everyone doing the same: PUT YOUR FINGER OVER THE MINIFIG WITH THE BLUE TORSO. Now, do you still want to pay $44.99USD for it? I think TLG is starting to bank on the idea that the adults will pay top dollar for big sets just to get some of the more exclusive figures (Slave 1 is the perfect example). They could have just as easily put one of the blue shirts into the Police fig collection set, and would have probably made many of us VERY very happy. But... I'm guessing this was a conscious decision not to include them, for fear that they'd lose out on potential sales of the two larger sets. Good business, I suppose, but I'm not going to spend all that money just for a blue shirt and tie, and I'll tell you why: Think of how bad City is at re-using the same torsos over and over and over again. I'm willing to guess that we'll see TLG phase out the traditional black jacket cops and give us more and more of the men in blue either next year or in 2012. We'll get them, perhaps later rather than sooner.
  7. SUCH a tough question.... I will say that I have spent more money on Lego Star Wars and probably wouldn't even be an "AFOL" if not for the theme... BUT I currently REALLY into City and can see myself focusing on it through the future, building up a big huge layout for my children to enjoy for years to come... BUT I also love Castle because at its best, it's absolutely timeless and sums up some of the best things about being a boy.... BUT All in all, I still have to say that PIRATES is the best theme. Period.
  8. Would it really have killed them to do him in a different color?? Gray dog = Police Dog = German Shepherd = Happy Mr. Timms
  9. Quick question for some of you more seasoned City collectors... I remember many of my years as a LSW collector where the sets of a new year would actually drop right around Christmas, before the actual calendar changed to that new year. I guess my question is, what's the likelihood that these new 2011 City sets show up in stores before January, and any guess as to which sets they might be?
  10. YAVIN. It's coming. It has to. Doesn't it?
  11. Easy tiger... I have 2 TRU locations in my immediate area. my plan was to do the $40 purchase at one store, then make a $20 on a separate occasion to the other, to avoid any Imperial entanglements. Fortunately I did proceed to get the Apple Tree House today, and to my delight the clerk was willing to give me TWO BLACK FALCONS for a grand total of an additional $0.02!! Consider my day EPIC
  12. Quick Question... looking to TRU's Bricktober for the first addition to my Black Falcon clan in 26 years!! I thought of going with two separate $20 sets to get two soldiers, but that's probably a waste of my money... so I looked to my City want-list, and the question is: 5891 Apple Tree House or 7213 Off-Road FireTruck & FireBoat??? As of now I'm leaning towards the Apple Tree House, just because I've always wanted it for my town layout, and besides, how many firemen does the place really need? But I'm curious to hear any feedback on the decision... Thanks as always!
  13. BANTHA or RANCOR????????????? Decisions, decisions...
  14. Exciting news.... I've never really thought of my city as a seaside town, but suddenly I'm not so sure. Perhaps there's a river over there I never noticed before...
  15. You guys should read back on some of these pages... Klaus notwithstanding, this thread has resorted to pretty much a mass regurgitation of past ideas from earlier pages. There's some great ones back there-- and if it's coincidental or not, some have made their way into series 3!!
  16. Love the ideas, Klaus-- but I'm hoping we get something a little different for next year's WINTER set. I know it's not really TLG's style to mix religion with fun, but if I had my wish I'd still hope for an Old Stone Church, perhaps even complete with a Lego nativity scene outside and in front. Either that or a family home all decked out for the holiday, complete with dad up on a ladder stringing the lights and kids outside sledding or playing in the snow.
  17. Yeah, love the new torso-- I only wish it was available in the Police Minifig Collection. It's just more of the same men in black. With all of these cops on the municipal payroll, taxes must be astronomical in Lego City!
  18. As an exclusive OT collector, this is easy 1. Leia in Boushh disguise-- This is far and away the most important OT figure they have yet to make. I am convinced that it is not a question of if, but rather when, we finally see her in bounty hunter disguise. And if they can do that nice of a job with the new Boba, I'd wager this one will be even better. 2. Zuckuss-- We need the rest of the bounty hunters!! This little guy could be really cool if done well, perhaps even with the small kid/Ewok legs, as he's a bit vertically challenged. (2b). 4LOM-- Again, finish up the ESB scene with Vader's hand-picked choices to find the Millenium Falcon! I'm just hoping we don't have to buy yet another Slave 1 to make it happen 3. Cantina Band Members-- We can all speculate about a future Mos Eisley set, but any cantina is only as good as the entertainment. This would be a fantastic set of four, each one with a different brick-built instrument. C'mon Lego!
  19. I've never really thought about it until reading this thread-- I've never actually been to a Lego store. Which is, of course, probably for the best Thanks for the clever post
  20. Got one today... I tried really hard to convince them to give me two b/c I spent well over $20, but they wouldn't have it. My very first BlueCoat I'm thinkin' chances are pretty good he'll be a prisoner at the Imperial Outpost this winter...
  21. Star Wars has been a part of me since I was three years old. I was well into my 'Dark Ages' when one day I walked into a drug store near my office for some cough drops, and there it was... The lure of Biker Scouts in minifig form was just too much for me to deny, and before I even knew what I was doing I, as a total non-AFOL, took that set home. The rest was history, and almost every OT minifig-scale set later (save the Death Star, original MF, Droid Escape, Jabba's Skiff, the new Slave 1, and the Rebel Blockade Runner), I'm semi-retired from Lego Star Wars. I'm sure a Wampa Cave is in my near future, and I'm still weighing the pros & cons between the Rebel Blockade Runner and the Imperial Flagship... anyone care to argue the case?
  22. I first went to the History theme because of the Cavalry soldier available in Week 3 and the Black Falcon soldier for Week 4. Sorry if it was bad form but I thought that was valid. As for the 'NEW,' sorry fellas-- I just wanted to specify that there would be a new way to grab bluecoats as early as this week. In retrospect, I'm a bit embarrassed at the topic title I chose-- very misleading. All apologies.
  23. Can't take all the credit. They actually first posted the link over at FBTB... I just brought it over here.
  24. Just shared this over on the History theme, but TRU North America has kicked off its Bricktober campaign, which offers a free minifigure magnet with any $20 Lego purchase. The first figure, available now, is the coveted BLUE COAT SOLDIER!! I have lamented many times in the past that, sadly, I have never owned one. Perhaps that will finally end!! They're available free with any $20 purchase, but according to the web site, they appear to also sell for $1.99 each. Here's hoping they'll let us buy 'em at the store for the same price! Here's the link for anyone interested: http://www.toysrus.c...egoryId=3252064 Happy Bricktober everyone!
  25. Didn't see this anywhere else, so I thought I'd make my first topic TRU North America has kicked off its Bricktober campaign, which offers a free minifigure magnet with any $20 Lego purchase. Thought this was the best place to talk about it, since 3 of the four magnets feature historical theme figures, so to speak. From what I can tell, the schedule appears to be: Week 1: A Blue Coat soldier (hooray for all the pirate fans) Week 2: A Union cavalry soldier (very exciting-- I've never had one) Week 3: A classic-era Fire Fighter (sorry, doesn't really fit the theme here, I know) Week 4: A Black Falcon soldier (YES! A possible new long-lost comrade in arms, one with youth in his veins to relieve the aging troops posted in my castle for the past 25 years, haha) No weapons, no accesories-- although the blue coat does feature some striking red epaulettes. As I said, they're available free with any $20 purchase, but according to the web site, they appear to also sell for $1.99 each. Here's hoping they'll let us buy 'em at the store for the same price! Here's the link for anyone interested: http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3252064 Happy Bricktober everyone!
