I'm no train expert, but wouldn't we be able to see if it had power functions built into the engine? This set looks fantastic, though... despite the fact that it has no tracks and is clearly not a starter set, I'm certainly tempted to start saving now!

Extremely jealous of all those wolfpack warriors!!! Although I'm still rooting for the Falcons to win-- BLACK FALCONS FOREVER!!!!!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to eiker86's topic in Special LEGO Themes
EXCITING!! Very exciting! My thoughts, clockwise from top left: Egyptian Woman-- Kinda hard to see a lot of detail on her. Looks like a new hair mold, though, which is always a good thing. Gladiator-- still early to really give a good judgement here, but it looks like a winner. Likely several new accessories. "Detective"-- this Sherlock Holmes clone is something I suggested very early on, and they do not disappoint. Figured we wouldn't get the pipe, but the hat seems to be spot-on. CaveWoman-- Perfect compliment to our lad from Series 1, and the hair looks like it's straight outta the Flintstones. Seems like she's holding something-- what is it? Royal Guard-- Outstanding, and possibly my favorite of all of them. The hat looks great, the face compliments it nicely, and I'm sure we'll have a very elaborate torso print to match. Great figure! Little Clown-- probably my least favorite of the 9-- but he'll probably look great next to our other clown. The new hat is a nice touch. I've noticed that while the Series 1 clown has a yellow head with a painted face, this guy's entire head is white. Overachiever with the powdered makeup, perhaps? Lizard Suit Guy-- Awesome! Great design, great consistency, and I can't wait to see updated pics! Boxer-- Absolutely fantastic! Love the accessories and the face looks great-- is that a mouthpiece we're being led to believe? Dwarf-- Let the army building commence... what the heck is on his shield? That leaves 7 more-- wonder what they'll be? -
My thoughts on the evolution of LEGO Castle

Absolutely! Or even just another wave of new and improved Black Falcons, or Wolfpack! Or Forestmen!! I've even thought of creating a window graphic for my car based on the Black Falcons shield! -
My thoughts on the evolution of LEGO Castle
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Hive's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Some really good thoughts and observations, albeit from a very subjective point of view. I would like to point out something that I've learned over time-- don't be so quick to judge a set just by a few pictures in an online review. Actually seeing or building the same set in person, and holding it in your hands, can be a very eye-opening experience. Case in point-- I recently grabbed the 7097 Troll's Mountain Fortress on sale during Black Friday. I'm not even entirely sure why... I wasn't sold on the set from reviews I'd read, but wanted another faction and as we all know, the golden rule to Lego is getting something in store while it's still available before having to resort to the secondary market. So I got one... and yes, it's not as beautiful of a set as 7744 Police Headquarters or 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge, but there's just something really cool and different about it. What it lacks in aesthetic beauty it makes up for in its own twisted character. I know people who LOVE the 10176 King's Castle, royal knights and all. But try not to be too judgmental just from a Brickset entry, you might be pleasantly surprised. But still, a great perspective-- and I share your sentiments for flick-fire missiles and the skeleton faction! Black Falcons Forever!!! -
Hey Kyp... "why so serious??" Welcome to EB, and don't be a stranger. I'm usually somewhere in the City forum, but not exclusively. Don't be a stranger!

Haven't added anything to this thread in a long time. Thought of these a few days ago: Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Hobo, patchwork jacket Type of headgear: sloppy hat Type of facial expression: sleepy, forlorn, disheveled Color on torso/legs: Browns, blues Accessory: Wand/stick with clip-on bag to sling over shoulder Gender: Male/Female Occupation/print on torso: Any Type of headgear: Any Type of facial expression: upbeat, smiling Color on torso/legs: any Accessory: WHEELCHAIR!!! Diversity is good!

Obviously choosing ONE of these is not an acceptable option. But, if I had to select two, I'd go with a. Continuing the classic castle theme. This will never not work, and should NEVER go out of circulation in some form. Every child on this planet deserves to have the joy of a Lego castle. "No Child Left Behind... without Lego Castle!" and b. Romans and Greeks, specifically GREEKS! The world of Greek mythology is just a gold mine waiting to happen-- could you imagine all of the greatest heroes envisioned in minifig and/or Lego form: Hercules, Zeus, Jason, Icarus, even Medusa! It sounds fantastic. I guess the real problem is envisioning/creating structures that do them all justice and are appropriate. I'm sure the last thing TLG wants is an entire theme based on figures with throwaway (or immediately broken down for parts) brick-built structures. I suppose there's some definite iconic Greek structures worth exploring, like Mt. Olympus, The Parthenon, The Trojan Horse, The Colossus of Rhodes, etc. On the other hand, with first the Vikings and Fantasy series , then the Atlantis line and now Pharaoh's Quest, there seems to be a proven focus on brick built creatures, which lends itself very well to this as well. The Hydra! The Cyclops! The Kraken!

Personally I like the idea that Lego licenses its sets by striking deals with actual brands. I wouldn't mind having a Caterpillar dump truck or a Boeing helicopter, but as Prateek said it will drive up the cost, because those licensing deals aren't free. On the other hand TLG has a rich history of developing their own name brands for the Lego world. Who among us wouldn't be willing to rock an Octan ballcap or perhaps a tee shirt featuring the Fire logo. They've continued this of late with the new Farm logo and others, and I hope to see this trend continue. It just adds another level of authenticity to the overall scheme.

"THE FINAL LAYOUT?" Ahh, c'mon Tiger, who are you kidding! Just joking of course-- love the look, all the studless (I prefer that over SNOT) work is soooo slick and polished and pristine. Absolutely impeccable, really. I also like how not everything has to be seven stories high-- I've resigned myself to spare 'the negotiations' with my wife and swear off the modular sets, but I've always felt a certain inferiority with regards to my layout because it'll never have a Fire Brigade or a Grand Emporium. Your street makes me optimistic to know that a quality display doesn't ALWAYS have to be comprised of enormous structures. Keep up the good work, my friend!
-
Anyone else ever have trouble with random hairs getting caught between studs? My wife keeps an immaculately clean house, but it still seems that the stray dog hair always manages to find its way onto a baseplate or something. That being said, the bottom of that hull seems like a perfect place for those hairs to loiter.

I must admit-- I got all excited when I saw that Grogall was the latest post, hoping there'd be some juicy new pics of something in here. You spoil us, my friend!

Hard not to think TLG has thrown in the towel a bit regarding the OT fans. So many of the iconic sets have been made two or three times already, and all that's left is to fill in the blanks with what hasn't been done before rather than keep rehashing X-wing designs over and over again. On the other hand, the PT and CW stuff is fresh and continues to evolve with a market that is willing to gobble it all up-- when it's spelled out like that it's easy to see why TLG concentrates on all of the new, never-before-seen concepts of the Clone Wars. I expect OT sets to either totally revamp themselves into a full-fledged rehash lineup, or that they'll eventually settle in as a top dollar Exclusive line that plays up all of the enormous environments we've yet to see, like Mos Eisley, Cloud City, Ewok Village, Jabba's palace, etc.

Great review Tiger... I'm not a fan of the price tag, but sometime this year I'm going to have to break down and get this set, hands down. Loved getting the up-close look at the design and construction of the jet ski-- really smart design that doesn't use too many pieces.

Just saw this story today... it's a minifig-sized replica of the football stadium for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Not a Buckeye fan, but that's a heck of a MOC!

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hey Kim, others... I have a question, and hope this is the right venue for it. Simply put, on Brickset the other day I noticed that there's another Echo Base to be released in 2011-- and I've totally missed all info on it. Any news on the scale/price tag, and what could possibly be in it? Are we looking at just another rehash of what they've done before, or are we going to see some new structures like the shield generator, the ion cannon, or perhaps even the Rebel Transport? I hope they give us something new-- I've practically got a fleet of snowspeeders at this point Thanks! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
For those of you still in the hunt in the US, I was at Target on Friday and noticed that in the seasonal aisle, amidst all of the Valentine's Day candy, was a bin for Lego Minifigures Series 3. List price was $2.99. None in stock, of course. -
Built this set last night, and LOVE IT! Great build, some really interesting techniques, and unlike so many sets of late, it really does feel like it's worth its price tag. Probably the real star of the set is the armored car-- it's pretty solid, well designed, and aesthetically speaking it's just beautiful. I love the whole vault area, as well... it's just really well executed in Lego form. Two thumbs up. Not sure if you guys confirmed this as a Target exclusive-- but I found it there and nowhere else.

I have the Prisoner Transport and the Flying Mummy Attack... Of the two, it's a toss-up-- although I do recall feeling a bit cheated with the price of the Pharaoh set. For essentially a plane and an obelisk it seemed overpriced. And I didn't recall feeling that way with the Prison Van, fwiw Now, for the real reason I logged on... Okay, Prateek and others, my local TRU has tons of leftover 7642 City Garage sets, none of which are currently on sale (yet). At the same rate, nearby Targets have leftover 7946 King's Castle sets, which also have yet to reach clearance status. I've put aside enough cash to cover either of these at about 25% off... but which one do I hold out for? I feel that the Castle is clearly the better set, but I've been building up my City for a future layout and can't help but wonder if every City needs a full-service garage, so to speak. Thoughts?

Not sure where you are-- but I saw the Gateway set at a local KMart on clearance for $20USD plus 20% off. Worth a look if you have one nearby.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Actually, I've been thinking about this as well... we're spending typically over $50 each wave just to get one set (forget about the box-buyers, that's another story entirely). I guess as long as the quality and creative choices of figs remains high, I'm still interested in continuing a perfect set of the collectible minifigs. But if they were to get repetitive or uninspired, at some point you have to ask yourself 'when do I stop getting every one of each series?' I think with Series 4 they may have set the high water mark... How can TLG top this in Series 5? (The ball is now officially in your court, Lego ) -
I think if they really wanted to increase the security of the vault to keep the crooks out, they might want to consider putting walls on all four sides of the building J/K... I'm not a four-wall snob, haha
