  1. Yeah... So, I caved. Cement Truck. Didn't realize the mixer on the back was just 2 ENORMOUS pieces. And to all a good night!
  2. Standing here in TRU with the High Speed Chase ($34.99), Cement Truck ($21.99), and Flatbed truck ($21.99) in my hands. VERRY tempted to jump on their BOGO 50% sale, but it's so deceptive with the markup. Can't decide if I jump on them now or save my funds for the pending SuperHero sets. At any rate, thought you'd all enjoy the pricing report. All Hobbit sets also here. Merry Christmas!
  3. Very happy with this quaint little set-- it certainly proves that TLG could succeed with the Winter theme at lower price points! They could sell this for $12 or 14 USD and I think it would still move this time of year!!! Ho Ho Ho!!
  4. Just built it, love it... But can't help but think it could've been better off cutting out the igloo, etc and drop the price. But it's a beautiful set, no doubt...
  5. My Crown Knights share a very delicate truce with the Lion knights, born out of years and years of unrest. The Crownies, a smaller faction than the Lions, we're finally bested by the reds after a long and drawn out battle over the Crownies' most prosperous village, a place you all know as the MMV. Once the war had finally ended, the blues found their numbers too far decimated to remain a major power in the realm. They ceded the village to the reds, and have since receded south to their homelands where their diminished numbers can defend its flag and hope to one day rebuild. Love creating the back stories... It started out as a simple homage to the British and the French but became something far greater...
  6. I'm thinking as early as next week these start popping up in American TRU stores. Jump on them in the first week to beat the mark-up!!
  7. Very curious about whether or not 'Dragon Mountain' refers to an actual flying, fire-breathing monster or the green and black Dragon Knights faction...?? Otherwise, TLG isn't tipping its hand at all regarding the factions. So we can still hold out hope for Black Falcons or Forestmen... for now.
  8. I've enjoyed this set MORE than I thought I would-- especially the little truck/train/hammer thing. The hammers are weird and of course you want to take them off, but it really is a clever design and it's hard to argue the playability. FWIW-- Target USA currently has an offer for a $10 gift card for any $39.99 purchase, but for whatever reason this set doesn't qualify for the card offer (I'm guessing because it was a Target exclusive). So I ruffled my feathers a little with the sales associate, and after a quick call to the manager they offered to sell it to me with a $10 reduction in lieu of the card-- so I got it for $29.99! Definitely worth that price!
  9. Took a few quick picks yesterday, but couldn't put it up until today. Here's a shot of the marine vs. the ADU helmet (sorry for the blur): The marine helmet on its own sits more square to the surface, whereas the ADU helmet tends to rock backwards a bit when at rest. You can also see there's much more ornamentation on the bottom of the ADU lid while the marine helmet is much more plain. When put on a figure wearing the space marine armor, we get this: The ADU helmet actually does sit okay on the armor, much better than I suggested earlier... BUT Aanchir is quite right, the helmet descends far below the bottom of the head, so much that the helmet does NOT fully engage with the head's stud before hitting the armor. In short, you have a helmet that falls off. Hope you all like my customized marines, wearing their orange rank insignias, long-range communication antennae and their mighty hel-guns.
  10. Not at all. It's a distinctly different helmet. The Space Marine helmet is rounder, and sits totally flat on the bottom once it's on the fig's head, but the ADU helmet protrudes down onto the top of the torso when it's on snug. The backs are very different aesthetically as well.
  11. Someone suggested that maybe the figs are placeholders and will contain the Space Marine armor when finished... Well, I could be wrong but wouldn't there be a clash in design between the ADU helmet and space marine armor? The ADU helmet has that descending chin grip that rests down in front of the fig's torso. Conversely the marine armor requires a flush finish on the headpiece... So the two just won't work together, right?
  12. Thanks for the review. I think I've decided to wait until after the holidays to pick this one up, hopefully at a significantly discounted price.
  13. Kinda new to trains-- but by looking at this I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to wire the lights in, correct? I put them in th Passenger Train and REALLY liked the final effect. Love the interior here! Exceptional detail as always!
  14. Okay, straight up: Town Hall or Haunted House?? I can actually get the Town Hall cheaper, but am just so torn between each... Plus this will be my first and likely only Modular purchase so I want to make it count. Any suggestions?
  15. Okay.... so 9 days until October and all we've seen is an advertisement from a TRU Canada flyer. Beginning to think there's not going to be much of a "Bricktober" this year!! Anyone else heard anything?
  16. Maaaann.... thinking back on all the sets over the years, I'd have to say my favorites have been the 4504 Millenium Falcon, the 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge, and 10123 Cloud City. Of them all I'm sure I've build the 4504 the most-- something magical about putting something so iconic from your childhood into Lego form.
  17. Great catch-- that's not my pic, I just found it while sleuthing on Google. Wonder if the promotion will be global or focused just in Canada??!
  18. Curious to see what sort of information EB users have gathered about Toys R Us's annual BRICKTOBER promotions for 2012. So far all I've heard was these tidbits (I am assuming these are USA events): There will be a Dracula, Duplo pumpkin, or Friends free kids build in the second weekend of October. On the weekend of Oct 13-14 there will be a MINIFIG EXCHANGE event. Supposedly you can bring in old minifigs and they will give you new ones. No details on the figs, rules or fine print, but it sounds very odd that there is no purchase required. Details in this image here: EDIT by Staff: From TLG: "It’s time to celebrate Bricktober at participating Toys “R” Us® stores! 19. Yeah.... No. I will say it's far too early to pass judgement on a theme from only one picture, but I don't see my Lego budget being rocked by this theme in any way. And that's just my 2 cents, of course.
  20. OUTSTANDING WORK, Klaus-Dieter!!!! The museum sounds excellent, as do the chase and cement mixer sets!!!! Are the police figs in the chase and squad car also sporting the bulletproof vest torso, or are they the traditional black uniforms? All of the firemen are in orange then, but with the old print? Hate to say it, but when it. Ones to the fire sets I think I'm most excited about the FIRE DOG!! Would love to hear any other recollections you might have, my friend! Thanks!!
  21. LOVE this time of year with all the rumors circulating-- THRILL OF THE CHASE!!! That movie theater sounds really special-- wonder if they could do a rising curtain for it? As for the great vehicles continuing, I'm gonna predict a new cement mixer. But I'd love an ice cream truck!!
  22. It's amazing how much more TLG has been able to lock down now that they have the retailers signing confidentiality agreements. I was sure it'd all leak out early anyway. With that said, we have very little to go on, even in the mere rumor department. Here's what I can offer:C 1. The 4473 Police Helicopter set photo was leaked several months ago. No word on if there's a full Police wave coming, whether or not the figs are placeholders, or whether or not this ties into the whispers of a SWAT theme to tie into the upcoming City Undercover Wii2 game. 2. The guy that claims to have seen the upcoming Super Heroes wave (sorry, forget the name) claims to have possibly seen a crane. Personally another Construction wave sounds unlikely, but what do I know? 3. Finally, we have the rumor above from Brickset user xkillthelightsx about a new museum heist set. This would seem to support the idea of a SWAT theme, so perhaps that has some legs after all. This is just what I've gathered in the past few weeks, and it's all online rumor and nothing else, so take it for what you will. But we have to start seeing things SOON, right??! I'm also assuming at least some of the mods and/or ambassadors have seen 2013 and are also sworn to secrecy, so I dont expect any of them to comment, confirm or deny. But we have to star seeing SOMEthing soon, right?
  23. It's been fun, 2012! (Thanks, Rick!)
  24. ANOTHER RUMOR: According to this forum thread at Brickset (found in another EB article regarding 'Legends of Chima'), a Brickset user (xkillthelightsx, near the bottom of the thread) in Australia claims to have seen the retailer catalogs, and had this to say regarding City: Now I regard rumors as simply that-- and until I see otherwise I'm not sure I believe this-- but thought it was worth at least reporting to all my City friends. Try to contain your drool until we have more concrete intel!
  25. YES!!!!!! PLEEEEEASE give Friends it's own forum! I actually opened the web site thread just in the hope of seeing that I'm not the only one who feels thIs way. I have absolutely nothing against the Friends theme and it's collectors and fans. I also realize we're in the middle of a Friends-centric seasonal campaign here at EB. But it has REALLY REALLY taken away from the Town forum experience... It's to the point now that I'm beginning to avoid the Town forum altogether. Maybe it's just me, but the Town forum was a lot more fun before Friends 'took over.' Now, from a less egocentric, quality control point of view, I would still recommend breaking off Friends into its own destination, simply because the Town forum was already a pretty large and expansive destination in its own right. And it's become increasingly deceptive to navigate between Friends sets and creations and City stuff when users don't properly identify them as such in a thread title. Now with TLG execs using words like "decade" and "here to stay," Friends is obviously not going anywhere. I think it would not hurt the EB Friends enthusiast experience in any way to migrate it into its own location. Besides, shouldn't this site follow the lead of Lego itself, who have clearly gone to great strides to design, depict and market the Friends sets as something entirely independent of Lego City?
