LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
What an amazing surprise!!!! Love the diver, love the thespian, and really impressed with the Bavarian boy. I think he only did for me is the robot. I was really anticipating the football player, but I'm a bit unimpressed with the uniforms. Still, I'm sure I'll grab enough for a team. Looks like he matches up well with the Series 1 cheerleader... Which can only mean we'll get a red &black football player in a future series. -

It seems kind of fruitless to have all of these pages complaining about collector exclusives when the wholepurpose of the promotion is to randomly give out a true Lego treasure. So many posts have said it's unfair to award these only at CC or that if someone wants them so bad then go fly out there and pick them up. The truth is even if you attend the Con it's no sure thing that you'll get EVEN ONE. The system is based on a badge scan of each attendee as the enter the Lego area, and it's designed so that each randomly selected badge can ONLY RECEIVE ONE MINIFIG (details courtesy FBTB). So if you do "win," it'd be one of them-- nobody's coming home with all four. And even then your chances are dependent on overall attendance for the day-- if 25,000 people pass through that gate, you're looking at a less than 1 in 6 chance of winning... TLG is smart to do this-- it boosts their presence at ComicCon and adds to the mythology of Lego both online and in the secondary market. And obviously look at all of the buzz being generated about these figs-- not here, mind you, but in mainstream media outlets like CNN, USAToday, MTV, etc. Personally I'm much more excited about the prospects that TODAY WE WILL FINALLY SEE THE NEW SUPERHERO MINIFIGS!!!!!!!! Those we can get! TLG's got a by winner in these two licenses... And I think 2013 will see SuperHeroes clearly distance itself from SW, LOTR, and all of the others as the number one licensed theme, if not the best-selling theme outright. Gonna be a great, albeit expensive, year!! -

Well done TLG... We've seen so much anticipation build for some of these untouched OT topics, and the were sure not to disappoint us. First Boushh, now the Rancor... LOVE the possible clawed fingers!!!!! -

Respectfully disagree... Never been an official release of the Rancor in Lego form. Ever. -

There's so much speculation about exactly "who" we'll see tomorrow, and really it could be pretty much anyone. But make no mistake: on Friday we'll see X-Men minifigs for the first time (Wolverine notwithstanding of course. He really transcends the X franchise anyway). As far as who... My money's on Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, and maybe Rogue and/or Gambit. I've never liked LeBeau, but he's a favorite. If it were up to me we'd get Colossus!! (crosses fingers) -

Also read that about the RANCOR PIT SET over at Fbtb. Really great to see TLG finally addressing some of these gaps in their OT coverage. As for the makeup of the set, I guess it will all boil down to the price point. This could be a massive set with tons of new Jabba minions, or they could just go smaller and focus on the monster with the new skiff Luke and the updated Gamorrean guard. Personally I'd be happy with something in the $70 range with at least one or two new figs. We'll see! Also very intriguing was the nugget that there would be 20 new SW sets in 2013. Wonder how many of those will be OT... Bantha riders, anyone??! -

I'm loving' that set a lot more at the $30USD price point!! Thought we were looking at an oppressively overpriced $50 set! Good news! -
What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
As a strict OT guy, I feel it's only fair that I avoid criticizing prequel and EU sets... So with that being said, I'd have to go with the original Slave I. What a piece of tiny crap, and yet I'm sure it sold well as it was the first outlet to get a Lego Boba Fett. I'm glad they finally got it right-- and they should have after (what feels like) fourteen different incarnations of the thing. -

Didn't we just get a confirmation in the form of a TLG official response to a mainstream media story as recent as last week? Certainly that trumps anything from 2011-- I say nay to any TDKR sets, unfortunately... -

I ma be in the minority here, but I think I'd prefer the iconic Comic Doc Ock over this. Animated series or not, it looks like some bad Hollywood costume dept. hack job. Give me the bowl cut over this. Now Iron Fist, on the other hand, looks fabulous. I'm not even all that disappointed in Spidey either, although I would've loved some arm and leg printing. I'd give TLG a B- on this one... And it doesn't matter b/c we're all gonna buy it anyway... -
Hey look-- a Lego Tonka Truck! Still on the fence here... One on hand, it's a nice new take and a fairly realistic build of a unique actual vehicle. My kids would love the idea of it as well, I would think. On the other hand, however, it's just so darn big I don't know how you could possibly incorporate it into a layout. And yet, for all it's pieces, there's something just a little bit underwhelming about the set as a whole. I'll probably still get it eventually-- I already have the two smallest sets of the line and want more-- but will wait to see if I can get it on sale before the holiday push. Something about the mining theme just screams "I'll be sitting on the shelves while the licensed sets come and go!" and yet, if I miss out on it I'm sure I'll regret it, just like that darn Combine Harvester I never picked up despite having ample opportunity to do so. Good first review-- keep up the good work!

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
Exciting news... seeing how we've seen TLG like to justify the financial burden of all the new molds in the CMF line, this is a perfect opportunity to put all those skis and poles from the Series 2 collectible minifig. I can see it now... a roaring fire, a little apres-ski bar with all those leftover trucker mugs, maybe even a snowmobile. VERY exciting!!!! -
Speaking of armored Batman, I was playing the game last night and noticed that the Power (Explosive) Batman suit has some pretty unique pieces in its digitally rendered minifig. Sure, right away you notice the huge yellow/orange bomb handler 'gloves,' but upon closer inspection I noticed he's got this really cool Bat-Helmet thing going on. It reminded me of the Superman-Buster armor Batman wore in the original Dark Knight miniseries. That'd definitely make a really cool fig, perhaps in next year's wave. Your armored take definitely reminded me of it.

The 'Golden Age' of Lego, is it now?
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Hey Joe's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Great topic... I guess it all depends on how one might defend "golden." I certainly agree that we're currently experiencing a prime era of quality and creativity. But I'd also claim that the mid-80's set the bar in the first place... A Classic era by all definition. One thing is obvious enough-- when you have so many AFOLs out there proclaiming the present and recent past as something special, it has to mean something. There are plenty of collectors with 30+ years of familiarity with the product, so if anyone's opinions should matter it's certainly theirs. -

Humph... Was sure we'd at least get a Tumbler outta the deal... Although it could've been a nightmare to attempt brick-built desert camo. -

Not sure about the Wii... But the promotion never did mention any specific platform so who knows...? It was a deal for GameStop Rewards Card Members Only-- an unlockable code for 5 villains with pre-order. I actually signed up just to take advantage of the offer. I doubt you can get it through them now... But maybe someone has leaked he code online...? FWIW, the characters are Black Manta, Bizarro Superman, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, and some guy named Black Adam. -

No pics, but I will say the suit looks pretty cool in the game. Probably worth the money if you want a full arsenal in your BatCave. Personally, the greatest thing I've seen in the game so far is Black Manta in minifigure form-- he came in the playable villains pack from GameStop. He looks faaaantastic! -
Lesson: fried chicken is not good for you. Now you know why, kids... Honestly though, good review. Contemplated buying this last night, actually... If I'd read this review first, it would be in my collection this morning.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow-- if TLG is following along with this thread, they're quickly learning that the price for keeping things under wraps is heightened anticipation, with some steep expectations as well. I do think it's somewhat unfair that we all 'expect' each series to top it's predecessor rather than simply judge it as the sum of its own parts... Personally, I think this series holds a lot of potential. Army builder for me is certainly the football player (providing it's of the American variety). I also see myself grabbing multiples of the Thespis, Conquistador, and even the Bavarian boy as well. And like all of you, I'm really intrigued by the "Trader," hoping it really turns out to be a Fur Trapper type of character. As for the hot Santa topic, you can firmly count me in the "Yea" group-- I cant't be the only one who thought it was wrong that we have a Easter bunny suit fit but no dedicated Santa figure. The ones in the Advents were always thrown together or just poor attempts at humor (seriously, showering/naked Santa?). I even considered the SW Advent last year just to get the Yoda torso to make a more fitting Kris Kringle. There is also the possibility that a new Santa hat mold opens new doors for winter hat/toque uses... Maybe even the infamous Trader himself. Hmmm... At any rate, thanks to Grogall for finally breaking the seal on this one. I'd imagine that if our resident hi-res image expert is breaking a list of the series, that likely means he's seen them for himself and hasn't been given the blessing to leak the pics. Curious to hear what he'll have to say in the next few weeks/days until he first images drop. Thanks again!! -
