  1. Anyone else in the UK not received their fishing boat yet? Mine is listed as “backordered” and has been now for a number of weeks. Furthermore, Lego support stated it could not update my payment card and to wait until the payment failed, at which point they could replace it (which seems odd, not least given contrary responses others in this thread have had). EDIT: Never mind. Forgot round two purchases won’t ship until the summer. Although why they won’t let me update payment, I’ve no idea.
  2. As I understand it, Doctor Who merch sales fell off a cliff during the Capaldi run, for all kinds of reasons. Today, the large gaps between series also make Doctor Who a tricky sell. I'll be amazed if we ever see any more Lego based on the theme. But if Lego wanted to make a chunk of change from the show, some kind of minifigs set could be the way to go. (Quite whether that would be viable, given how expensive it would be, is another matter.)
  3. For me, that's the really interesting shot, largely because it by comparison makes the official modulars look oddly ordinary. I've not bothered with Assembly Square yet, and doubt I ever will. But I'd buy this one for sure, if it was in stores.
  4. They were reliable. I say 'were', because it looks like the store's abruptly ceased to be. (It's still online, but all stock was listed as unavailable a couple of days back, and now all listings are lacking images, etc.)
  5. No idea – I didn't buy that one. I got three Doctors (guitar one; Smith; Baker) and a couple of weeping angels, because I thought it'd be funny to dot them about my Lego modulars. (I currently only have two official ones, and the TARDIS set's OOP now.)
  6. Grabbed some of the Who figs, which arrived this morning. Prints are surprisingly good. I wish Lego would do more official figures for the series though. (A licensed pack with a few extra Doctors, some Cybermen, and so on, would go down every well, I imagine. Alas.)
  7. We built our set of this last week. Palace Cinema is pretty divisive on this forum, and I can see why. The exterior is pretty great, with some lovely details and a result that's full of character. The car, though, is atrocious (Mrs G's comment of "that was a lot of effort for nothing" says a lot), and the insides are just plain weird. Some of the downstairs works, but the space in the ticket area is off, and the upstairs makes no sense. Massive windows mean no-one would be able to see on that screen. Six seats. That weird projector platform you can see from the outside. Fortunately, the second storey can be sorted by blacking out the windows and pretending the inside doesn't exist. So one to get if you want the exterior and/or plan on modifying its innards. Also watch its height – this one’s tall, and in fact too tall for our shelves, so we’re trying to figure out the best way of knocking off a few centimetres.
  8. If you sign into https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/ and set the region to GB, it now shows the price as £179.99.
  9. Just noticed some price slippage in the UK – Assembly Square's up ten quid at £179.99. I wonder if further changes are in store prior to release?
  10. How many pieces is this, approx?
  11. Although Doctor Who is classified as a family show, and broadcast at around 7pm in the UK – well before the BBC's watershed. That it sometimes has mature themes doesn't mean it's a mature show in the same way as something like the Netflix Marvel stuff (i.e. that it isn't laced with heavily sexual scenes, violence, and so on). Plus the chances of us getting any more Who sets appears to be somewhere approaching zero.
  12. Those giant dinosaurs that both failed, perhaps due to clashing with the Jurassic Park licence, were the bigger surprises to my mind. I imagine they would have gone down very well with kids (and, er, adults). The museum looked great, but its creator did note that the thing wouldn't pass Lego's requirements regarding stability. Perhaps they couldn't resolve it – along with any other reasons for it not making the cut.
  13. That flag – oof. I suppose a printed Union Jack would be too much to ask for, but I wonder whether they should have left the red square out entirely,
  14. Given that these sets are supposed to work as standalones as well as part of a series, an inverted corner sounds like a really weird choice. I imagine even some collectors would be hard-pressed to go for one, since they'll have 'flat' displays (i.e. one deep) rather than a table of units. So I think I'll file this rumour under hmmmm.
  15. "The mystery machine is kinda small and there isn't even space for the entire team" Yep, although a few jumper plates and some other minor modifications, though, and three in the front and Shaggy in a chair behind works pretty well.
  16. The thing I find odd is that when I was a kid (1980s), all the Lego sets I bought had alternate builds on the back of the boxes—even something as basic as 6607-1/service truck. As for the city mini-figs set, Brickset said it'd be 35 quid, which seems a touch pricey. Here's hoping it comes in a bit lower.
  17. So if that page is accurate, that suggests $299 US and £249 could be the price-point.
  18. There are always going to be anomalies, but then these aren't historical documents; also, it's easy enough to remove components if you want a certain amount of authenticity. With the bank, when did security glass start to be used rather than bars? People weren't really even looking into non-military applications until after WWII, were they?
  19. I imagine also there's limited and there's 'limited'. The Research Centre and Mars Rover both sold out in insanely little time, with the former eventually getting another run. The Ecto-1, though, is still on sale well over a year after its debut. The clear differentiator is the brand. Given the popularity of Doctor Who, I'll be bloody amazed if the new set's on sale for a day and then that's it. (Early availability might be limited, of course.)
  20. Given the release date's proximity to Christmas and the popularity of Doctor Who, I imagine this'll be more like the Ghostbusters set than, say, the research institute or Mars Rover. At least, I'd hope that's the case.
  21. That's a really good point that I'd not considered. Get a few basic sets out the door (covering major villains) and you don't really need anything else for Doctor Who, because the rest of the Lego universe caters for it.
  22. UK PC/Kwik-E-Mart/Pet Shop have switched to OOS (expected ship date Aug 4/30 days/30 days). PR is Aug 14.
  23. John Lewis is out of the PR as well, note. Perhaps a stock issue. If not, that's not a long life for that set. The only other set I'd quite like is the PC, so I'm wondering now whether to grab one while it's still in the channel or hang on and see whether Lego itself will get some back in.
  24. 2016's flagship theme: ZOO POLICE.
  25. It’s nice to see people being a bit more imaginative with retro fare. Mostly these days, you just see people turning sprites into 2D Lego flatness. These arcade machines (and the set on the other thread) are great. Mind you, the one I'd really like a parts/instructions list for is Arvo’s Bubble Buster.
