This MOC started out as a project about a year ago - and has been bugging me ever since. However due to some big life changes I have decided it is the end of the road and it is time to show this MOC as WIP, and allow someone else the privilege of finishing it or displaying at their LUG. Yes I have entered a dark grey age. The idea was to cross the 7939 Cargo Locomotive with the older 7740 TEE so that the models could work on PF track without having to modify the original 7740 Locomotive. PF motor, batter and IR receiver are all inside the body - with the IR working through those nice light grey windows! There is some wheel slip because the rake uses 12V wheels - but it works well with 9V / RC wheel sets. PF lights power the 12V prism brick. A short video set is here If anyone would like to acquire the model please let me know via PM. I would aim to recover the costs of the bricks / PF elements but I am not out for profit.

The locomotive is based on the famous DB VT 11.5 Trans Europe Express train - and there have been a few talented Lego MOC's which I cant match. However I wanted to make a more Retro style attempt - using as many bricks as possible from the early 1980's. The only change for modern life is conversion to PF as I no longer have any 12V track. Only four red 3x3 curved plates were not available in 1980. A link to a m4V video (should work directly in most browsers) is here The lead locomotive has a PF lights rigged via the 12V light prism, and integrated PF and battery. The rear locomotive also has PF lights which can be operated from a 9V PP3 battery. Unfortunately no interiors yet, and I will leave this to someone else. If anyone would like to acquire these models please let me know via PM. I would aim to recover the costs of the bricks / PF elements but I am not out for profit.

I have a few older 12v motors which I'm thinking of running via a custom PF cable. In principle this is not a problem - assuming PWM at 9v then it means the 12v motor will never reach it's maximum RPM. However I'm wondering what would be the effect of supplying the IR receiver with a higher voltage (say 11v lipo). 1. Does the IR receiver still limit the maximum PWM output to 9v? 2. Is the IR receiver likely to blow or have a shorter lifetime at these slightly higher voltages? Note all my IR receivers are the v1 type - I know that v2 would allow more power to be drawn from the batteries - and hence might handle 12v motors better. But since I don't expect to power two 12v motors from one battery pack I'm not too worried Thanks for any hints or tips

Worth the cost to get into 9V now, with a huge investment in PF?
roamingstop replied to Locutis's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Buy some 9v motors so your models can run on their track - but the investment to convert your layout will probably be prohibitive. PF lipo can drive 9v motors on PF track and it can look correct (fits inside a Santa Fe but not a bnsf) 9V pickups (many custom ones) can drive PF motors and IR receiver - just make sure a diode bridge is used to solve polarity issues Rejecting a custom wagon to overcome these issues is a bit extreme but perhaps purist understandable. If combining layouts then try to have a loop where the different solutions can be tested together and actually demonstrate the results. You might be surprised at the feedback.. -
What is the value of this signed box?
roamingstop replied to Henrik Ludvigsen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Why are you interested in its value? Did you receive this in respect of obtaining the blue track Lego train record?? Whilst it might be interesting to auction it off in eBay surely gifts from TLG should be kept special or given to those who deserve? Since it would be for AFOL only there is limited value at the moment unless you find a train collector -
Gruzi - a few Swiss based afols and a good LUG well. Wilkommen

Fortnum and Masons in London would be a good example of a great department store on a small scale

Hmm having never heard of a gear puller - this link shows how to build one. http://www.instructables.com/id/Cheap-and-Simple-Gear-Puller/ The spring summer have passed too rapidly and now that the autumn draws near perhaps I will find the time to complete the repairs of my 12V red motor. Many thanks Alain

Actually the set stayed longer than expected and chances are high that there is a high bricklink quantity meaning that a high return (as happened with CC and GG) is unlikely. A few years could be easily 4-5.

Just make sure the lubricant is non-conducting otherwise you will blow up everything

There are a couple of online photo guides on how to open the red and black train Motors - it is a bit tricky but should not be fatal. Guess something is a bit haired up inside.

Really like that the bricks are crumbling along the mortar joints as well. Old yellowed white bricks can be pretty well cleaned using washing products containing oxy cleaning and good strong sunlight - often enough to take them back a few years...

FS: Mint Sealed Box Blowout...
roamingstop replied to roamingstop's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I have listed a 10178 Star Wars Motorised AT-AT and 10185 Green Grocer - both MISB on Ebay.co.uk. I had bought them years ago and they lay in the roof of my parents house after I moved to Switzerland... where they were forgotten. Since I will be back in the UK for a few days I will take the opportunity to sell them and personally ensure they are looked after. Winning Eurobricks members will get a 10% discount if you send me a EB-PM. 10178 AT-AT 10185 Green Grocer -
Nearly always it is about tidying away parts found loosely on the floor- for packing and moving them (car etc) to another location to avoid apocalyptic destruction. The art is understanding the metaphor in the dream and remembering feelings. In this case there is often a sense of urgency - coupled with the need to tidy and get under control all the parts I already have. Indeed reducing he number of bricks to concentrate on other designs. I suspect I'm heading into my third dark age - but unlike last time need to keep reminders of the past and not sell off everything (the biggest mistake last time)

Thanks for posting - I had essentially given up hope. I wonder if alternative worm screws might be better than trying to remove 20 year old plastic. I'm guessing they are a friction push on (no sign of glue). But might need a special hammer and washer to ensure they slide off?

Looking for ideas, I have extra train bases...

Using the jacobs wheel base from the horizon express you can easily get a form of ttx intermodal system working -
FS: Some 12V Train Accessories
roamingstop replied to roamingstop's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hi kzv I'm sorry everything listed was sold. There is still a 12v power transformer and two wired curved rails but I need these for continued testing of motor repairs. Keep an eye on this thread as I will update it later this year -
FS: Mint Sealed Box Blowout...
roamingstop replied to roamingstop's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hi Currently all previously listed items have been sold; only the last update contAins items which are available until 7th April. However there is a Zurg which did not sell. In the past you could only send and receive PM's after you have made 10 posts to Eurobricks (maybe this limit is higher now) I will update this list on subday if there are other unsold items -
For the past few weeks All my PM's and topic notifications go straight to Gmail --> All Mail --> Spam folder whether I whitelist or not. So perhaps Gmail changed the intensity of their spam filters?

Thanks to those from Eurobricks who placed bids on the original blowout. Ive decided to continue the craze and added a few more items - it actually feels kind of relaxing and liberating to be able to have space. Definitely some regrets, but if they go to good homes then I can be happy.
