LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

I fear that video is just going to make the next 6 to 18 months unbearable with Bespin rumours and leaks and wishlisting. Whatever the aim of that bleeping in the video it was very planned. If I had a chance to write the script on one of those I’d troll the hell out of everyone! -
I think I’m just cautious about thing like minifig lists as people are expecting a huge amount of figures and we’re discussing almost 35 figures across two sets in some guesses. If they don’t actually have close to that people could be disappointed in a set they’ve no real reason to be disappointed in, and that would be a shame.

That's the thing. We've got 14 figures in a £90 set apparently... So what kind of expectations are people going to have with a £500 set? They're not going to make a Hogwarts and not have Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Snape and Voldemort. Probably McGonagall. After that it's just a free-for-all of guess work and if they don't have Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff uniforms there'll be a revolution from some quarters. The main thing it has going for it is it's a location based set... which would normally mean more figures (Ewok Village and Death Star for example). I still remember when the Helicarrier was getting released and there were people reeling off lists of 16-20 names that should appear with it... and they got five. Only one of those was a new character. Large D2C sets normally work as standalone sets especially at that price range so you would expect that if there are rooms for each house you would get at least one character from that house. If the CMF lineup gives us house ghosts then they at least tie in, similar to the Disney CMF giving us a couple of characters that could fit the Disney Castle. Ravenclaw seems the most likely to get a character with people like Luna, Cho, Padma etc... we've got Cedric and Ernie Macmillan for Hufflepuff that people may have heard of.

If they just concentrated on better printing they’d be a viable alternative to customs... even expensive ones. SY and DLP of 2 years ago were superb but Xinh and Pogo are continually terrible these days. I wouldn’t know what SY, Decool or DLP we’re up to these days. Getting out of customs really dented my interest in thesebut I keep looking out for things of interest. The Pogo moulded for He-Man are excellent and I saw a photo of them in genuine Lego parts... they really were nice. Imagine is SY printed the figures and we had those Pogo parts... they’d be fantastic... I’d have those without question. But even at 60p each I feel they’re too much for the actual quality you get.

I know it's been linked to here with set descriptions so you'd normally assume that would be a very firm confirmation but I always hesitate when a huge amount of figures get included in set rumours... especially one which is under £100. I could imagine them really going for it in the large scale £500 Hogwarts... but with just the Great Hall... I think I'll reserve my excitement for when something or someone more trustworthy gives it all the nod.

Be careful when going for Price per Parts ratio. The new Death Star has over 200 extra parts but having built them both only a couple of months apart I couldn't tell you where they were... There were 177 parts in an A-Wing set released a few years ago and you definitely didn't get an extra A-Wing and more parts between those two DS sets. There are a lot of much smaller pieces around now than there were a few years ago so with recent sets you you get lots of very small 1x1 plates or similar in a set which bumps the part count but won't add anything other than detail to a set.

I've not looked too closely at the set descriptions but large amount of figures in sets set alarm bells going off anyway. When they start to include figures everyone wants that's another thing that doesn't feel right, even if people want it to be correct. From all of them the only figure I'd want is Nien Nunb... and that's as long as he's wearing a red flight suit with waistcoat/flak jacket. -

You just tell me where that ledge you're standing on is and I'll happily come and push you over it... ;) In all seriousness if you can get it and you can afford it then just do it. It's magnificent. Yes... even though it s brick build toy... it's magnificent. -
The moulds on those new parts are pretty good but the print looks terrible throughout... and some of the design work is terrible. Such a shame as He-Man’s chest plate, sword, shield and hair are really good.

I think when people say unofficial it’s normally customs printed on genuine Lego or purist customs. I’m not sure if completely bootleg figures are frowned upon more or less these days in here. -
Bloody autocorrect!! Obviously microscale. I think if they went with accuracy of shape for the building in it appearing micro fig scale wouldn't be such an issue if the interior areas were designed to allow minifigs to live in it. Much like the Disney Castle does. The problem there is Hogwarts is a campus type of a castle and has a much broader footprint. We know the areas of the school from the hall to the staircases to the dungeons with Snape's class to the bathrooms, the hidden rooms, the Chamber, the greenhouses, the forest, the lake... They're never going to please everyone as there's just too much to include.

It's never going to be minifigure scale. Have you visited the HP tour at WB Studios in Watford? The Hogwarts at the end of the tour might be minifigure scale... but it's the size of a house. Even the Helicarrier was microscope as a set but with space to 'play' with the minifigures.

Great Hall as well as a smaller one in the UCS Hogwarts? You mean like Final Duel as a full set and a smaller version in the Death Star? It's been done before. I picked up all of the final two waves for HP as well as getting a very good deal on a used Diagon Alley so I'm very excited for any sets they bring out but I'll wait until I get some proper confirmation about what it to be released. Exciting news anyway!

[PRESS RELEASE] 75192 - UCS Millennium Falcon 2017
Robianco replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah... I've always thought this one would be around for a couple of years at least. I'm sure it's just a little disconcerting to anyone wanting one to see it listed with the retired sets. Well I've got my card but I've heard nothing about what will be offered. Even when I picked up a couple of sets earlier this month the store rep at the till just said 'Oooh. A posh card' but couldn't offer any insight as to what will be available to those that have them. -

It does seem odd to list it as sold out on the online store. It places it with the retired sets such as the UCS TIE, Rex’s AT-TE and the advent calendar on my browser. -

There is the chance that it’s gone for good though. It was on sale which normally happens at the tail end of a products shelf life. It might be back in small numbers but then it’ll be gone. -

They've covered several bases with those summer sets. Dagobah and an X-Wing... Now you can have X-Wing and TIE dogfight. I really hope the Imperial Officer does have either no rank or a smaller rank to be able to add to my Imperial military. I also like that the Trooper is a different type of Trooper rather than an in-between Stormtrooper. I'm interested to know who the figures are with the pilot in the TIE. They look like new imperials altogether. -
Rather than quote a picture from the previous page... That rebel officer with cap from Battlefront II is excellent. I've now ordered the parts for one from BL. Excellent!

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

Aren’t these rumours just based around discussions we had here several months ago? Is there a source for this sudden knowledge of a Cloud City other than the mentioned video? -
It's funny that somebody should mentioned Lego and 'interactivity'... Lego is in itself one of the most interactive toys I can think of. There was a recent programme in the UK where several children were put in a room with lots of the latest toys and the time with each toy was measured. Some very expensive toys got some initial interest but then were left and ignored... Lego was played with the third most... just behind colouring pens and paper and just ahead of the empty cardboard box that some of the toys were in. As complicated and as impressive as some large scale Lego sets can be it's still a basic brick building toy... it's almost primal in it's simplicity. For that reason it will continue to hold the interest of children... and adults alike... and I think that kind of interactivity is far more rewarding than the virtual kind. I'm not interested in virtual building so I won't pretend to offer any kind of insight into whether I think it should be something Lego should delve into... but then again I'm pretty sure no member of this board has helped steer a company into 'the number one in it's field in the world' with a turnover of billions, so I'm not sure Lego will be scouring the thread for business strategy anytime soon. The world is about as uncertain a place as I can ever remember currently and a toy company that we happen to like have cut 1400 jobs... after having huge growth and taking on many more than that previously... it's not the end of the world, or even the slightest sign of being the end of the company. In 5 years time when they're still the largest toy company in the world we'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

If you were in the UK then Smyths Toys have had 25% off the DS recently. -
Not to add another 'I've just received mine' for the sake of it but I did get mine yesterday morning and it certainly seems like they're all arriving with people now as FB groups are showing people receiving theirs in much more regular numbers.
