  1. Gee, that tone of hostility over my opinion about a toy. Maybe I'm not the one who needs a new hobby. Smile, man, we're talking about toys here.
  2. Me too. I wouldn't mind a 6000 or 7000 piece European football stadium. Like with most buildings, there would probably be a lot of repetitive steps, but the end result would be worth the repetitiveness and the price.
  3. That's simply a great MOC. Reminds me of a AA ballpark. The ball players are just fine.....I'm not a purist. Would be a great set for Lego to issue in certain markets.
  4. You're opening a whole can of worms when you talk 'scale'. It's just easier for me to say the DO side of the building is too short. And, it certainly looks too short in the town lay outs that I've seen. On the modular series as a whole, I've often expressed concerns about scale. And my credit card receipts reflect an attempt to address those concerns. :-).......look at the different type of businesses, governmental functions and general building uses that are used by TLG to describe/label the modulars and you'll see that having a series of 32 wide modulars doesn't work from a scale perspective. I mean a truly grand emporium the size of a one door fire station? A Parisian restaurant almost as wide as a theater? Sure, I know we can headline the exceptions, but in general all of these businesses need a different footprint/square footage. That's why my town hall is 64 wide and my GE 96 wide. In this regard, I think a lot of modular enthusiasts miss an opportunity by not addressing scale through modifications. I have two more DOs that will be here Wednesday and will probably buy two more in the near future.
  5. It's not just the height/cost ratio. The height in and of itself, well, sucks.
  6. Anyone can pluck a picture off the Internet to pretty much support whatever they want to support. I have no problem with a shorter building, but the price should also be 'shorter'.
  7. The main adult aspect of the DO is the price. I wish TLG would devote a product line to mature AFOLs. The architecture series would be a great starting point if they could/would just make more and larger arch sets. If TLG did that, then all of the City fans could get what they want......the modular series rolled into the City series with story lines and enhanced playability aspects.
  8. Thanks for your objective comments about the DO. I'm almost finished with the build. It's almost like the designer did the interior first and then discovered TLG didn't give him enough of a budget to build an actual building that was large enough to accommodate all of his interior design ideas. Like the old 15 pounds of potatoes in a 10 pound sack, an appropriate metaphor for the DO.
  9. Interesting, and in my opinion, the best possible grouping. FB, GE and TH all beg for expansion while at least three of the other four seem to be a logical size when grouped together and given the buildings subject matter, maybe in a case or two a bit small.
  10. I'm through bags one and two. No issues as of now. Cleaver interior features. Only complaint at this point is that the final product should be a story taller.
  11. Me too. That's why it would be nice to see some 16 wides AND some super sets. The town hall and grand emporium clearly merited larger sets in order to make things look better. A mix of 16, 32 and a super set here and there might satisfy everyone's budget.
  12. I still don't have a picture hosting site. But, I'm always happy to take pictures and email them. I keep intending on getting a picture hosting site, but never seem to get around to it. My first DO is still under construction. I have two more ordered and will probably get at least one more and then start on the expanded version. These generation two modulars just beg for expansion.
  13. Getting back to modulars, I've seen several pictures of modular cities. The one thing that strikes me is how out of proportion the town hall looks when it's not expanded. It may have moved to the bottom of my list based solely on its terrible proportion. I think TLG needs to experiment with different size modulars. Many have called for some that are only 16 wide. I can see where TH should have been at least 48 wide with an even higher price than the $199.
  14. I think the DO looks out of place. It needs another floor. With that said, I just finished the pool hall portion of the build. If pieces are going to be wasted on non structural components, at least the pool table and ceiling fan are interesting wastes of pieces. I wish they'd just raise the price to $199 and given me the size building I want while still giving others the play factor and story line that so many 'adults' seem to desire.
  15. Yes, but most important, are you enjoying the storyline?
  16. Nice city. I like how the left side of the DO looks. Not a big fan of the bright blue side. I prefer the more subtle blue as seen just down your street in the PS.
  17. Well, I've decided I'm going to modify this by expanding the first floor so that it's the width of the plate and in the same style all the way across (eliminating the barber shop and alley). I'll add two more floors using the second story brick look. I'll have a 32 wide building that's mostly brick on the top two of three floors. Guess I'll be left with a ton of blue bricks. I've got one DO here that I'll build per instructions. Two more are on the way and they should allow for me to build the first two floors of the modified version. No blue bricks on the mod version. No barber shop. More like a brown brick residential building, at least on the top two floors.
  18. So, my wife and I were standing outside of Sagrada familia. I took one long look and talked her into taking a taxi over to Camp Nou where we spent the afternoon.
  19. Yeah, it's been down for quite a while.
  20. Just compared two unopened boxes. DO and PR boxes are the same size.
  21. Thanks. And really a big thanks for not including Sagrada familia! :-)
  22. I couldn't agree more. I didn't get started with Lego until my wife bought me a FLW set for Christmas a few years back. That got me interested in Lego and I started collecting modulars. But, in the past year or so, Lego seems to want to take the 'A' out of AFOL. I want larger more detailed buildings.
  23. Good review of a bad set. Congrats to the designer who managed to achieve repetitive build in a small set.
