Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Earlier this year, I saw an excellent Lego version of the above building. It was simply outstanding. It was huge. The eBay auction price, if I recall correctly, had a $16,000 USD buy it now price. But, it was massive and well detailed. I can't find it in my google search, but someone else might have a picture of it or it may be in an earlier thread. -

Okay, fine. But where's my story line? Michael Douglas mini fig? Wall Street the movie? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Yes, I've heard the bank design will give the option of building it either as a corner building or a regular design. The second floor will be a loan office and the third floor will be the record keeping area. It will be a pre e-commerce theme. -
I'll buy two at the store and order two on line the first day. The arch series Lincoln Memorial can wait as can the new SW offering. I want to build the DO per instructions and then use the other three to create a taller building without blue bricks or an alley.

Well, I didn't make much progress. I'm off to St. Lucia next Tuesday to socialize with the hipsters at an all inclusive resorts for about a week. So, the mini figs may well have to stay in their ziplocked purgatory for a couple of more weeks. -

I'm opening the one gallon bag of dismembered mini figs from the many modular series sets that I've used for parts and putting them together more or less at random. They will form the line outside of my MOC soup kitchen. -
Agreed. If the rest of your city block is that tall, it might look okay. As a stand alone, or next to something like the PR, it's awkward. Sort of like those pictures of the GE that I've seen where people build up several stories but don't increase the width of the building. Awkward.
-
I'll do one build like it looks on the box. Then, after stock piling three or four more sets, I'll build up a story and eliminate the alley. Of course, on the modified version the blue bricks will also be replaced.
-
Hmmm..not sure but I kind of like 'Al's' with the second word open to interpretation. :-)
-
Totally agree. If they can afford it, some people are really missing the boat by not expanding modulars. Some easily lend themselves to expansion. GE and TH for example. To me, they just no longer look right without expanding them. The proportions on them seem awkward if confined to a 32 x 32 plate. Now, my 96 x 64 GE that's five stories high is a bit much, but my TH where I've added three windows on each side and each floor has really good proportions. Are you going to leave the 'alley' between the buildings when you expand the DO or will you expand the Pool Hall so that it's wider?

You got it......thanks

Thanks, Gongoro73. Makes it even more imperative to get rid of the light blue. I could keep the blue on the first floor, but replace it on floors two through four.
-
Interesting. I may buy three of these to start with. Build one as designed and then take the other two, eliminate the blue side of the building and duplicate what you've done on the left side, add the same on the right side....... to create a full 32 wide brownstone type building that's a full three stories tall.

New on Amazon for $54.99 and buy it now on eBay for less than that (as of this morning). So, prices aren't completley out of hand. -
42030 - To Get or Not to Get

Just some advice to you single folks. This is from an Internet article that discusses the meaning of words that are frequently misused. Disinterested On a blind date, you might be uninterested when he talks about his Lego collection, and you might be disinterested when one of your friends thinks he's cute, especially if he's already gone on a while about the Legos. -

What would double points work out to? $1 ? Not enough to wait. Not like ordering a modular or a Death Star where the points really add up. Edit.... Looking at Lego.com this morning, their wording would seem to imply that its gone from Lego.com for good but that you might be able to get one at a Lego retail location the week of December 14th. Might..... -

Just got shipping confirmation. Looks like I'll have it on Tuesday. -
All is well in ATL. We nabbed our serial killer yesterday after only four (as far as we know) homicides.

Outstanding. You should submit it to Lego ideas. You must know how much I appreciate interiors because you did a great job on this one. However, this type of business indicates the hipsters are moving into your city. The long time residents of your city clearly don't need the services of a laundry. What's next? Restoration Hardware? The Pottery Barn? A hip micro brewery? Clearly, the services needed for complete gentrification of your community have started to appear.

I needed it for a friend and double points on such an inexpensive set didn't justify holding off until Sunday. -
