This is a lovely build. I like the thought you've put into the layout and all the little details. That lean-to shed is a nice touch, and the vintage 1x1 windows work really well there. Plus the cypress trees and the other vintage windows on the front, that gives it an extra Classic feel with some great modern touches.

[MOC] Micro Moldy Crow from the Dark Forces series
deraven replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This is a great micro-scale rendition! Everything is clean and well-integrated, and makes good use of parts. -
That's a fun idea, and probably helps that you're using exiting prints for the dominoes. Not sure how practical this would be... I think the mat actually detracts from it as an Ideas project since it's not terribly interesting in its construction, adds piece count (and thus cost) and isn't really useful to the end consumer being just a large brown slab that has to live somewhere. I would suggest trying to make it more interesting in design or function somehow, or having it only for display purposes and not as part of the actual set proposal. Just my opinion, of course. Also, just to catch more attention, it might be fun if you include an image of additional play value (setting up and knocking down some dominoes in a pattern, maybe). For the dominoes themselves, did you use 2x2 inverted tiles to give both sides a nice smooth finish vs how regular plates would look when they're turned over?

Just lovely all-around. Great concept and execution in general, nice color scheme, lots of interesting detail in the builds, and the small pieces of terrain do some big world-building and add a great atmosphere. Bravo.

German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs
deraven replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes, something as simple as that could be interesting. Or something like Creator Expert 3-in-1; sets in the $100-150 range in the scale of some of the (older, less interior detail) Modulars but with instructions to build 3 distinctly different buildings/municipal facilities. A cross between a Modular building and a jumbo city parts pack. That's the kind of thing that they've ignored recently and that the current line of Modulars doesn't really work for since we're paying for a lot of so many small elements that go to the specific interiors and so eat up funds that could otherwise be directed at building out a city street or skyline. I mean, I enjoy the techniques and intricate touches they've added and the designs overall, but definitely less desire to buy multiple copies than there used to be so those funds go to bulk brick or Bricklink instead. -
[B Model] 42056 VW Beetle

Gorgeous all-around! The roof came out very well and I like your use of those black panels to represent (I assume) a ragtop. -
German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs
deraven replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is the point I was going to make - AFOLs are a much smaller group in terms of absolute number of bodies. Let's say we're 10% of revenue but 5% of the customer base (I think it's smaller than that since I have to assume AFOLs on average spend more than 2x the other consumer categories) so they can focus a relatively smaller % of resources at better developing that very small market segment and have a much higher rate of return in revenue. Just making existing AFOLs happier could be a good boost, but focussing on the adult segment in general could of course bring in new AFOLs that have a similarly high impact on their bottom line. I'm betting CAC vs LTV for an AFOL is a much more attractive ratio than for child and teen demos. It only makes good fiscal sense for them to finally be putting more specific focus here! -
Yes, that's what we're talking about. 2 large heart-shaped pieces vs. 4 half circles and 2 6x6 plates as was suggested above. Are the standoffs for the jewelry hangers a new piece? Looks like a bar with a perpendicular stud on one end?

No, if that were the case there’d be little lines, joins visible. It looks pure. I might be wrong, but that’s how it looks to me. Yeah, as strange as it seems to have a new element like that, I think Fen-huang is correct. No joints/edges to be seen in the full-size press photo:

Welcome to EB, InterBrick. Happy building!

Looks like a great result. Spray painting Lego feels wrong, but... come on- you've got to have some ships to oppose the pirates! I think your simple solution does the job and it looks like you're all having a lot of fun!

Gargoyle Weatherans (using painted-over stickers)
deraven replied to Wardancer's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Overall I think they look good. The faceted cuts on the "feet" and outside edges look like they were molded that way and remind me of some of the Power Miners creatures with the crystal/stone sort of effect which is basically what you were going for here so I think that's a good thing. -
Gargoyle Weatherans (using painted-over stickers)
deraven replied to Wardancer's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Generally speaking I'm a Purist, but these really look great! The paint works very well and the overall effect from "chipping away" at them is nice. I don't like the chunks taken off at the top of the legs near the hip joint, though - at first glance it almost makes it look like the leg is rotated out of the socket or something. I think a little less material removed there would look better. But still, a lovely looking set of gargoyles! -
That looks awesome, Kim! As Lego David said, more detailed pictures would be great. The paperclip/upload option on Eurobricks that it looks like you used to upload that is only for very small images to be used in your signature line here on the board. For sharing photos of MOCs, etc., you'll want to use a 3rd party service and I think most folks would recommend Flickr, if not using a Lego-focussed image hosting service. Here's a tutorial on linking/embedding Flickr images in your posts: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/97921-flickr-tutorial/ Happy building - looking forward to seeing more!

Hi TrainWorldFan - welcome to EB! Per the rules you agreed to when signing up, promoting an Ideas project here for no other purpose than to garner support (not engaging with the community and sharing the MOC) isn't allowed: So you ideally need to get your post topic changed, share some photos, and tell us more about your MOC here in the thread!

Spectacular! Seriously NPU with the handles and the microphones! The chain is simple but looks great as well. Wonderful build!

What a great vehicle! You've got some nice solutions integrated there to handle the power you're putting into it, and the aesthetics are still good, so definitely a successful design in my book. Maybe add some shock absorption (or crumple plates) to the front bumper assembly to help reduce your repair bills at the garage?

MOC Mickey Mouse Magic (Sorcerer's Apprentice - Fantasia)
deraven replied to alanboar HK's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is spectacular. It's a shame you can't put it up on Ideas - this should be an official set for sure! Mickey is great. NPU on the croissant for the moon on his hat, and the parts including brooms used to tie up his coat. The book is very nice as well, and the "M" from the plants works surprisingly well. Excellent posing of the broomstick, and especially the clever positioning of the buckets using the brown bars and clips. Just delightful all-around! Those appear to be Duplo ice cream cones. I thought that was seriously NPU as well! Part 40378 - (older) Dinosaur Neck/Tail section.- 8 replies

The bows for decoration on the dress are lovely, and NPU on the whips for the hair- that works surprisingly well! Very creative use of the lego bottles for glasses and goblet for bottle, and the little frill on the arm of her gloves is nice as well. Now, it does look great, but the scale for the food and drink on the tray is a bit off - is she a giant (maybe her name is Diane)?

I'd be curious to know if anyone does have a non-destructive way to handle with with that older style of paper (well, non-vinyl) sticker. You best bet might be to recreate them altogether and build a new copy with new stickers for display if you want to keep these originals in-tact (which I would), and perhaps even display them side-by-side.

Give the target market I wouldn't be surprised if it's not easily replaceable, but I am surprised it's not available for purchase. Since it was such a low-production part in the first place "sold out" on Bricks and Pieces/Replacement Parts means gone forever, and with none on Bricklink it might be best to try cracking it open and replacing it yourself (and document online for others ) or purchase one on eBay ($25-50).

[MOC] 1966 Classic Batmobile
deraven replied to JamesJT's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, I wasn't expecting to see so much Technic in it - nice job! Something else might work better for the wind screens (especially from the rear view) but that's a minor nitpick. I especially like the light/siren as the HOG steering control. -
As 1963maniac said, there's not enough info just based on parts count and color to give a realistic range. What software did you use to design them? Most have a parts list export function of some sort that can make adding to your Wanted list on Bricklink pretty quick, and then that'll give you your answer if you follow the steps she outlined above.
