I think I going to buy these parts for my windows: Black Window 1 x 4 x 3 White Window 1 x 2 x 3 Pane Unfortunately these Window Panes are rather expensive (and I need about 16 of them). I will have to do some minor damage to the windows to put them next to each other (like Mr. Tiber did on the Archeron).
-
Ofcourse Mr. Tiber, here are 2 pics. I did some minor changes to the hull also.
-
This is a first tryout version of the stern of the Excalibur. Some bricks still have the wrong color and I still have to buy the right windows on BL. I think it looks rather "integrated" in the ship and doesn't look to "squarely".
-
The english ship (the one with one gundeck). Didn't the french ship have 2 gundeck? Maybe tonight I will watch that movie again to refresh my memory (It's my "free" night since my girlfriend has to study :-)). Not to big. Just big enough to put a table for the officers to eat.

A stern castle is my next step and I'm starting to think how I will make it. I'll start by doing some investigation by looking at the other ships in the Pirate MOC forum (some spying :-)). Then I will start experimenting. I don't want my stern castle to be very high since that will ruin the line of my ship. I want I to be really integrated in the hull (like in the ship from Master and Commander).

I has the right looks and colors. Would be nice to see this mighty weapon in real lego.

I agree there are some "grey zones" in the catalogue system from this article. I will try to find another source to fill these gaps.

This is an inventive way to make your ship longer without having to buy hull pieces. I was particulary paying attention to the colors you used since I'm in the middle of building a ship (The Excalibur) with red and black. I was looking for a third color to add to these. Maybe grey is a good idea (like you did). Your anchor is also inventive :-). You mast is also quite nice. Not the regular mast you see on most ships (with the standard lego masts). Maybe I get less creative since I buy everything I need on Bricklink. I didn't have that luxory a few years ago (before I discovered BL). I see you have the same "dust problem" as I have. Now I'm using a toothbrush and my fathers compressor to undust my lego sets from time to time (not a fun job). Might I suggest you make your pictures a bit smaller. A good (and free) program to do this is Irfanview. It can even resize a bunch of pictures at once (in a batch). You can display them in this thread by using [*img]http://www.brickshelf-deeplink/picture-name.gif[/*img] (but remove the *'s). A deeplink in brickshelf is what you get when you really click on a picture and save the url (should be .gif or .jpg at the end).

I found a verrrry interesting article on Wikipedia. It is a ranking system that was used by the Royal Navy for its warships. Examples: - Archeron of Mr. Tiber is a "Frigate" (lets say a "4th rate" since it has 2 gun deck and about 42 guns). - The Excalibur (that I'm building) can be classified as "sloop of war" since it has 1 gun-deck and 16-18 guns. However, by adding 2 more guns it will become a "6th rate Frigate". - The Isabella (by LeGoPiRaTe) is "Gun-brig" or "Cutter" since it has 1 gun-deck and between 6-14 guns. What class is your ship? Who has a 1st rate ship of the line (100 or more guns, 3+ decks, forecastle and quarterdeck)?

Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Bonaparte replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Some pirate sets it have: 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner 6285 Black Seas Barracuda (2x) 6274 Caribbean Clipper 6271 Imperial Flagship 6265 Sabre Island 6270 Forbidden Island 6268 Renegade Runner -
I'm just using the hull of my skull's eye schooner to build the Excalibur (which is not a schooner). Maybe I still add 1 hull element later to make it still a bit longer (still doubting about this). I would like it to be a "ship of the line", but I'm not sure what the criteria are. Do you have any idea about this? Probably you need a certain amount of guns to be classified like this.

I never liked brick made horses. For me, the official Lego horse are just perfect.

Introducing the latest MOC builder oDDerFisken
Bonaparte replied to oDDerFisken's topic in LEGO Pirates
The size of the ship really doesn't matter. As long as you had fun building it ;-) Welcome to the Pirate forum! -
All the red is standard red. It's hard to make quality pictures with my crappy camera :-) .
-
I've been searching for the Captain Roger torso some time ago. But I couldn't find any high quality design that I can put in the library. Maybe you can use one of these? You should print it to see if it looks ok. Maybe there is someone out there who can make us a high quality Captain Roger?

I'll use this thread to post progress pictures of the ship that I'm building. I have chosen the name Excalibur, like the mytical sword that made king Arthur invincible. This is the first sailing ship that I build and could use some feedback and good advice. What do you think about the color sheme and the general looks so far?
-
I just read the discussion about the fort for the first time. The wall you've build looks good but I agree to use 2 shades of grey. Doesn't matter which is most authentic, as long as it looks good! I didn't know that history lessons in the US were so boring Mr. Taltos. Thats really a pitty. Dates and names are the least important. The reasoning behind what happend is what matters.
-
Looks really good. Great detail! I don't own any viking set, but I have been thinking on buying the fortress or the boat. Seeing your nice fortress has convinced that I should buy one.

Does a minifig still fit under the quarterdeck Mr. Tiber?
-
Well, they should be in the Pirates forum or the History & Adventure forum. I believe that the allies of the Napoleonic wars should be in the Pirates forum because: It is clear that the Imperial soldiers and guards belong to the Pirates forum. Suppose I would make a battle scene with the Imperial soldiers (French) and the Imperial guards (English). It would be logical to include some of their allies in this scene.... So these allies also belong to the Pirates forum.
-
Well Mr Phes, during the napoleonic wars, the french had many colonies in the Caribbean. These were under constant thread of the British navy and privateers (since the french navy was inferior to the british). During the napoleonic wars , the russians were allies of the english during the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th coalition. Many privateers/pirates were protected and sponsored by the big powers like Britain and France. In many cases they are a consequence or extension of a European conflict.

I like the hats. I used 2 tires to make hats for my Imperial Guards, but never tried to use only one. I wonder if there where really Cossacks with hats like that?
-
I don't have any trains myself (except the space train), but this looks really nice. You seem to have a dedicated room in your house for your trains. It's nice to see that you wife and son are also sharing your hobby. My girlfriend is not interested at all in my lego |-/ In which town do you live? I'm from Nijlen.

I think the resolution of these pictures is just perfect. Ship is looking great. Are you going to buy the bricks you miss to complete the ship?
