While I genuinely love black parts, I do feel the lack of perceived detail in sets and MOCs with a lot of black can be disappointing. That said, I do think vehicle chassis look much nicer in all black or all DBG. I understand TLG's desire to give people a mix of colors with their sets, but I would greatly prefer the bigger / more AFOL oriented sets to follow a somewhat realistic color scheme.

I got this a few weeks ago and built the first "chapter" yesterday. Being aware of the issues at release I made sure to look out for Blackbird's fix in step 5. To my surprise TLC actually changed the instructions and step 5 now calls for a 62462 pin joiner in LBG. As far as I can tell they didn't change the gears around, nor did they implement a fix for the unreliable shifting issue.

How awesome. Thank baby Jesus you do want to put the time and effort in to make instructions. I can't wait.

Excellent. Great scale. Really love the colors, too. -
My all time favorite off-road vehicle. We've had 3 of these in the family for years, and have taken them on trips all through Europe over the past 20 years. So damn amazing. Would you consider making instructions? I would pay well to be able to create one of these for myself. My father is coming to visit me here in the US come December, and I know he would jump through the ceiling if I handed him some instructions, and he'd slowly come to realize the full model as he flips through the pages. This is just awesome.

Which set should I buy?
Trawler Man replied to kb7's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can see the parts list for 42009 right here. There is a small chance it may not be entirely accurate, but the numbers shouldn't be too drastically different. As you can see, there is quite a bit of yellow in there. In contrast, 42006 has significantly fewer yellow LAs. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. If you're even a little bit like any one of us on this board, you'll eventually own all 3 of these sets anyway. The only thing I can't stress enough is the fact that once they sell out at the LEGO store and other major retailers...prices tend to skyrocket, and you'll be forced to pay much more or simply miss out on the set in question. So at this point, the "smart" thing to do would be to go with 42009 or 42006, considering the Arocs just came out. -

Which set should I buy?

If you need the wheels and the yellow, I would say go for 42009 while it's still available at non-scalper prices, and go to Bricklink for the orange peel parts. That way you get both of your main needs in one box, and you'll probably save some money. If you already own a 42009, I would say go for the Arocs and see if you can get the yellow parts / tracks you need from Bicklink. In the end, I believe you'd be happier with the Arocs and all of its exclusive new parts first, because yellow is yellow...and it's never going away. -
I'm on the fence here. I'm just not sure if the price suits the package. I really wish they would bring back the 8420 wheels and tires. These bikes would look much better with a fat rear tire.

This really is a fantastic set. I had seen the original he submitted to LEGO Ideas long ago, and I feel they did an awesome job sticking to that design. I will be picking it up as soon as it becomes available to order.

After holding off on purchasing this set, I finally bit the bullet last week. I wasn't too sure about it at first, but after completing the build I am glad I bought it. Getting the set for $219.99 was a big motivator, but this review is what settled it for me. I really enjoyed and appreciated the detailed segments of the build, as well as the pros and cons bits. I do agree with most of them, but I do feel like I should pick up an 8879 to really play around with this set. Thanks Jim.
