Announcement: MocPlans.com
DLuders replied to nychase's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If MocPlans is not going to come to fruition, then perhaps the building instructions for RoscoPCs F1 racecars could be made available via some other outlet.... -
In this Eurobricks topic about "George Staples' Lego Technic Suspension Tutorial", he wrote this: "2) PENDULAR: The pendular suspension is another very simple design. It's basic idea is wheels on the sides, and a pivot point in the center of the axle. Pros: Has the best travel(distance from lowest point of suspension to highest; Simple to build; Good for small MOCs; Steering can be attached easily, and steering shaft can be the pivot shaft. Cons: No "squish" in suspension; When one wheel moves up, it tilts the wheel onto it's edge; If equipped on front and rear, cab of vehicle tips over. My suggestions for using this suspension are: use this mainly for front axles, If used for rear and front axles rubber bands must be used to level....The main problem with the rubber bands is that it's hard to get the cab level, and keep it level...."

I have a BIG Lego rocket to fit that 1:19 Russian Missile Launcher: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/104238 . Just out of curiosity, if you are serious about possibly selling your MOC, how much would you ask for it (in Polish Zloties or Euros)? I don't have enough, but you never know what a serious Lego Technic AFOL would buy....

3711 chain link dimensions
DLuders replied to TasV's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It depends on what you are trying to do. When I tried the 42 ea. Technic Links on the two 16-tooth gears, the ends of the 1x15 Technic Liftarm were visibly deflecting inwards. When I added another link, the chain sagged but it COULD WORK on low-torque applications. The Lego Technic Links are relatively inexpensive; why don't you get some and try them out? -

DLuders replied to TasV's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you use two of the 16-tooth gears (as Zblj suggested), then you will need 42 of the chain links for a VERY TIGHT fit. Get 43 links if you want a loose fit. -

Let's see, you want to know how many of these you need to loop around two of these mounted on the endmost pin holes on these: . You need exactly 40 of the chain links; I just built the assembly with my spare parts that I have. -
Intesting machine, but do you know that cigarette smoke gets absorbed into Lego pieces and discolors them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uItOVL56w

@ sorfri2: Your green Lego Technic Figure is apparently very rare! Maybe he's the "big brother" to the Lego Leprechaun minifig! -
Motor Upgrade
DLuders replied to Boxerlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Interesting -- are you going to put your upgraded motor into a Power Functions vehicle, so that we can see its torque and ground speed? Can you insert it into the old PF XL motor casing anymore? It may be helpful if you SPOKE in your videos so that others can tell what you're doing, and what conclusions you are drawing. We can't really see the multimeter's units of measure, so the display numerals are a bit confusing. -
Old Technic sets losing value?
DLuders replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
From this Brickpicker webpage , one can determine the value of old Lego sets: -
Certain spray paints (like Krylon Fusion) are formulated for plastic. If it can stick on plastic lawn furniture (which flexes a bit), it should work fine on Lego parts too. I recommend finding something like it at your local hardware store and trying it out on a common Lego Technic piece. If you don't like the results, you can always use the paint for something else.

When I was stationed in West Berlin, Germany during the mid-1980s, I lived a few hundred meters away from a US Army tank battery. The "combat engineers" had tanks like this, with buckets that could excavate so that the tank could "hunker down" in a pit, out of view.

"Electric guitar, dinosaur top new Lego Mindstorms EV3 models" "Lego will soon launch its programmable robotics platform's third generation, with 17 models, 12 of which are community created. Lego showed off three of the best of those 12. "SAN FRANCISCO--If you don't think a playable Lego electric guitar, complete with the ability to play different notes and adjust pitch, is possible, you don't have enough faith. "Later this year, Lego will launch the third generation of its popular Mindstorms programmable robotics platform. Known as EV3, the third-generation kit will come with plans for 17 different models. But 12 of those models were created by members of an elite, hand-picked, team of Lego community members. "Now, with the eighth-annual Maker Faire hitting the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend, Lego is unveiling three of the 12 community-created models: an electric guitar, a triceratops, and what amounts to a whack-a-mole arcade game. "At a demonstration here earlier this week, Lasse Stenbæk Lauesen, a software and applications developer for the Mindstorms program showed off the three models. One of them, he modestly noted, was his, created when he was a member of the expert panel that chose the 12 models. Since then, he's joined the mother Lego ship at headquarters in Billund, Denmark. His triceratops was designed to recoil and roar when someone puts a hand in front of it. "Lego plans on unveiling the remaining nine community-created models over the summer, most likely in conjunction with the SparkTruck, a sort-of Maker Faire on wheels that is touring the United States this summer. "And, of course, given that the Mindstorms EV3 platform is all about giving people -- kids and adults alike -- the ability to create their own programmable robots, there's little doubt that within days, or even hours, of the platform's launch, the number of models will expand quickly from 17 to nearly infinite. "But for now, it's worth appreciating the idea of a playable Lego electric guitar. Even if it can't quite menace you the way a triceratops can."
