Okay guys help me out, I have the chance and the cash to either get: either these three sets together: http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=6270-1 http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=6105-1 http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=6034-1 OR http://www.brickset....ail/?Set=6074-1 All sets are used with intact boxes. A big spanner in the works is set 6270 was a favourite of mine as a child which I sold during my dark ages 6 years ago but 6074 was a set I always wanted my friend had it and it was the reason I became interested in Lego in the first place. Opinions welcome

Am I right in assuming no Lotr sets were displayed at Nuremberg?

I think it's safe to say it changes from country to country, city to city, even store to store. It all depends on childrens peers are into as well. I know the reason I got into castle as a kid was seeing the Black Falcon Fortress at my friends house. Same reason my brother prefered Blacktron over Castle.... If a lot of the kids in a class are into Chima, chances are a kid will ask for Chima for his birthday. Most younger children wouldn't have seen The Hobbit or LotR so presumably the people most likely to buy the sets are older kids/teens/AFoLs

Raised baseplates, Crazy valuation...

They're brilliant at bulking out a hill or raised landscape and building over. Saves an awful lot of bricks....... -
This is the little guys mobile in his bedroom: camel by slobey79, on Flickr He loves it and waves goodnight to it before bed every night. Lego freak in the making maybe?

I'm not really fussed that the orc printing is the same, I'd prefer more effort and money to go into new figs like the Mouth of Sauron, Arwen etc. I don't know what all the fuss is about anyway with the 4 mordor orcs and 3 goblins I had handy by changing a few pieces around you get 7 unique figs: IMG_0556 by slobey79, on Flickr and thats without moving heads around or adding helmets such us: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60751 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=48493 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x43 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=98128 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=89918 It's what Lego is all about people.....improvisation and experimentation It's no fun if Lego do all the work for you

It was one one of mine too, but I sold it when I went into my dark ages six years ago..... Very happy to have acquired it again! :-)

I like the shields on the corsair boat. If I get 2 of this set like I plan that should net 16 generic shields!

Barry at Brick fanatics has reported: "The Lord of the Rings stuff was all preliminary so no idea if the Orcs will have new prints or if there is a new sword. The pirate ship is the main one. One set will have an eye of sauron which will be a print on a minifig head. More details on sets later." Could be a marking on the mordor orcs similar to the white hand on the Urak-hai?

The momentum could carry into christmas 2014 with DVD releases etc. June 2014 could see a mix of hobbit/LoTR sets seeing as hobbit sets will also be released christmas 2013. Either way we'll have Tolkien based sets for a while to come

As would I. It just frustrates me - not only here but in life generally- when others fail to focus on the good and get bogged down trying to focus on the negative. I mean who here up until these images were released thought we would get a Mouth of Sauron fig for example?

I choose to focus on what we are getting which is a cool playable set that is recognisable what it portrays.... We get Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron, Aragorn in Gondor printing and 2 armoured orcs plus a cool looking gate tower. I swear if Lego produced a gazzilion peice minifig scale black gate most of the people here would be like (homer simpson voice) "yeah it's cool and everything but too expensive, I think I'll just bricklink the figures"...... As an AFOL who's loved Lego for 20 years+ I just want to give the Lego group a massive hug for producing LoTR in the first place instead of whinging about how they didn't include old Gloin in the council of Elrond (end of old man rant)

Mate it's not some big capitalist conspiracy... The job of customs is to stop illegal or otherwise undesirable products from entering the country. In my case I had a small package containing 2 bags originating from the Netherlands, I don't blame them for being a bit suspect. I don't see how customs has a negative effect on global trade and prosperity.

My second Mighty Ape order came today. Three sets all in good order with no damage. I'll buy from there again...... -
I have my doubts we will get a Minas Tirith at all. I think a Lego produced set wont be able to do it justice... Gates perhaps or a section of wall but I don't think there will be a complete set

I bought two unopened Elrond polybags from Netherlands. When they arrived at my house in Australia the package and one of the ploys had been opened by customs. I was a bit annoyed but it wasnt the end of the world as I had planned to open one anyway and put the second one away in my collection. The customs guys are just doing their jobs...watching the border patrol shows on TV people are always finding new and ingenious ways to smuggle illegal stuff now days.....

Very nice, I like how you've angled Bag End to the road. It gives it a very natural feel. Looking forward to seeing more!

I have two daughters (8 & 6) who have thier own collection of Friends and stuff we've bought them over the years as well as a decent size tub of my brother in laws old Lego. I have all my collection sorted and my bulit sets in a cabinet in our tv room. The girls know they can play with my sets (MMV, Daigon Alley, Kingdoms Joust etc.) whenever they want they just need to ask first, as someone said previously I can always repair any damage they do. Any damage is outweighed by watching them spend hours roleplaying with my sets or recreating scenes from the Hobbit (I just finished reading it to them). photo by slobey79, on Flickr My son is only 2 yrs old but I've put some insurance in place by buying 2 copies of each LotR and Hobbit sets (one for me and one stored away for him) As far as MOCing goes I've made a rule that I will not under any circumstances raid thier collection if I need a piece. As far as I'm concerned if I need a piece they have I will bricklink it...........

The movie licences only cover the Hobbit and LotR books, infact Peter Jackson had to be very careful not to use details that were only noted in other books (Silmarillion etc). For example in the Movie when he talks about the Blue wizards he claims he can't remember thier names and when Elrond looks at Glamdring he says something along the lines of "nice elvish sword" when in fact the sword belonged to his great-grandfather. Most of the additional stuff was from the LoTR appendices. Any straying outside of the licence could result in legal action from the Tolkien family. This article explains it a bit better than I can http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/The-Tolkien-Nerds-Guide-to-The-Hobbit--185546102.html?c=y&story=fullstory
