  1. Ok... A lot of response here and I am not going to quote, so bear with me. To NM - Sorry about the layoff, I hope you find something quick that is enjoyable. As for the challenge, I said small so that it doesn't take as much time, but I think 32x32 would be fine. Also, we could get rid of the structure requirement, but I thought we might end up with a bunch of armies marching to battle pics. Which, in themselves would not be bad, but as my ulterior motive here was to score as many free build points for the guild as possible, I don't know how well accepted so many scenes of men marching would be :) But, yeah, we can get rid of the requirement. I think we could definitely put this together, and if we could get permission, set up prizes. I know what you mean about post-Christmas disasters. My building table is still occupied by a global version of Axis and Allies 1940, which takes up the whole table. We are only half way through the game, with no end in sight. Until then, I have very little building surface. As for titles - I somewhat agree with NM. I think everyone should have the right to call themselves a minor title if they want (I think this was discussed a long time ago when talking about the mini-challenge titles) I think as a group we decided that we were not going to offer titles for certain builds because too many Avalonians were just pumping out uninspiring builds to rush through the title tree. What happened over there was a backlash between those who were not getting the titles quick enough and those who felt their builds were higher quality than other guild members. I suspect that that is why Avalonia dropped from something like 40 members and closed to 20 and open again. (I don't know the exact number they had). I also know that the way SI set up this guild, we were more democratic creating titles, stories, and challenges -- although we had less challenges. He kind of just let us drift and create the story, whereas Derfel and Siren seemed to have more of a guiding hand in their guilds at first. I am not sure what happened to ISC. I think that the guild leader portion has taken the wind out of the project for some of our leaders, but luckily we have Z here helping to keep it all running.
  2. I like the newest mini-story you put up there. Very good! I agree with you about time constraints. That's why I thought something small might be worth it. More points for the guild, maybe a small MOC to try out a new building technique. Or maybe... even a prelude to our main builds for the challenge. I guess Z's jesting in the questions forum got me to thinking how we could help bring up the points totals.
  3. Hey, I am just looking out for you all. It only takes one person to come in, get upset over a semi-sexual slang being thrown around for fun and report a bunch of people who were just joshing with one another. I know you have the regulator status, but that doesn't mean someone won't get upset about it!!! No offense intended, just saying that word choice may want to be reexamined in future beratings of other guilds. ------------ Avalonia has some good builders, but you will not prevail. Lost Vegga has good odds on the competition right now. You can make a lot of money if you successfully pick Nocturnis as a dark horse!
  4. I propose a January Push: A Kaliphlin free-build contest to get us some more points for free builds. We may need these to win the final tally. We could say no larger than 20x20. Due Date: February 1st, 2013 Theme: Off to war. As we near the great battle to end Revolword's tyranny, many men and women will be leaving their families to go into battle. Design a MOC of somebody in Kaliphlin going off to war. This scene should portray a sense of duty (or maybe even conscription! ) perhaps sadness, worry, or even pride. There should be at least one structure, as they are leaving their home. It could be a unit, and not just a single person leaving if you choose. I know we can't make competitions that have prizes without the mods permission, but if we could get permission, I can put up the prize, and I can judge ( or we can have someone from the other guilds judge). Otherwise, it would be a "for fun" push, and then we could set up a thread for the GoH community to vote for the best scene. What do you all think?
  5. IF Kai as anything to say about it you won't be on top for long. His free builds may single-handedly give us the edge in points when it is all said and done since he produces like 2 a day. Also, I don't know if wussies is the most "PC" term to use on these boards considering the connotation of the original word that is slightly changed to create that word. I don't really care, but I wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble for using it.
  6. Definitely very feasible! Sounds great. He was wanted by the Drow, so that makes total sense.
  7. Sounds good about the soldiers, actually, there is no official uniform of GEAR. There is of Eastgate, but not of the merchants company which would be providing the war galleys. Before our swearing of allegiance to Kaliphlin, these same men would be considered pirates along the southern coast. I don't have those same torso's to represent them on my side (was thinking of whipping up a little MOC of one of these war galleys), but I could see them as good "land uniforms" for them men to wear in battle. So do what you see fit. As for Dugal, I don't even know exactly what he has been up to, I just know the end game is that he will resurface, he will lead an army against one of the elemental / cultist / Revelword armies as a prelude to the final challenge story I am coming up with. I would love to know what you did with him, makes his journey even more interesting.
  8. Well I will do a quick update - Looking back, I did much less building than I thought I would do. I guess moving twice had something to do with that. Notable members of GEAR: Dugal MacLean pledged Eastgate's allegiance a little over a year ago. Since then he has disappeared on rout to the oil fields, briefly popped up for an engagement, and disappeared again. There have been a few sightings in various cities around Historica, but no concrete word on why he went on his journey, or when he will be back. Petera MacLean took care of a problem with the ruler of Al'Derek about a year ago and returned as 2nd Lord of Eastgate to manage the affairs of the city and GEAR while Dugal is absent. He recently has sent 3 war galleys to help Lord DaMaximus. There are rumors that he is in line to be the next headmaster of the Eastgate School of Magic. Deregar the Bull, a cousin of the MacLeans, participated in the Battle of Khordeem in Mitgardia. I think that is it. My other MOCs did not really have much to do with the characters.
  9. I don't know, we have never seen you and Revolword in the same location... maybe it is your secret identity!!!!
  10. That is what I get for typing and talking on the phone. I just meant that we should start gathering a timeline here to be added to an "official" timeline. The point of the original idea about a "what's up with XXXX?" post was for this challenge only really, just so we knew who was where, and doing what. But, I definitely like the idea of a greater timeline. Or a "history of Historica" year 1 post.
  11. I was thinking this too... a complete timeline would probably be a better finished product on the wiki. By the way, is there even a link to the wiki on any of the main pages so that new people can go view it? Although, we should definitely gather one here.
  12. I had you in mind specifically :) I think a good recounting and a maybe a map with key activities would be very cool when we all look back on this project in a few years (hopefully after a new set of challenges begins in a year or so?) I hope to have the "where was Dugal this past year" story done before I get to my Challenge six... And I want to get in another "send your hero" battle as a precursor battle... but I am not sure if that is going to happen.
  13. With all these projects going on and major battles forthcoming... I would like to see a "What we Know so far post" that digs up the recent actions or planned actions of members and their efforts towards the forces of evil. For example, DaMaximus and Masa are both marching an army towards confrontation, but so is Dugal. It would be kind of cool to figure out what the overall strategy for Kaliphlin (or even all of Historica) was. Although, I suppose after it is all done, someone ambitious could write a general history lol.
  14. Yay! Victory (if only for a moment.) I, In Lord Dugal's absence, will send three of GEAR's war galleys to Mpya Stedor. You may use the soldiers aboard in any way you see fit in the upcoming battle. -Petera MacLean 2nd Lord of Eastgate. -------------------------------------- I really like the back drop! Definitely screams cave, and I kind of imagined it as a set piece in a play about the Alleenridders. Looking forward to the final chapter!
  15. I had a few questions about the new challenge, and though it may be useful to put together a questions thread like in the past. This being the biggest, and most time consuming challenge, I am sure there will be other questions. I can manage the top thread as an FAQ if anyone wants me to. Ok, my first question - The instructions say that only three builds will be scored if the builder chooses to build additional builds for their story. Does the builder get to choose which builds will be scored, or will it just be the first three, the best three (determined by a quick glance by a judge) or some other criteria? Second, how do you want us to post these builds? As one post, many posts? I have a suggestion for that: Every builder creates one story post. All builds are posted in the story post as it progresses (That allows people to post their builds as they are build and give "teasers" but keeps all of the story in the same thread.) The three judged builds all get their own thread of comments and critique. Freebuilds related to the story I guess would be the same. Judges would only have to link the story thread in the voting portion, because all builds for that story would be in the main thread also.
  16. IT all looks quite interesting. I hope I can find time. I keep thinking I am going to be able to get something done, and sit on it too long. I hope everyone gets a chance to come back and build for this one.
  17. I really like the siege weapon. It looks very stable! Also, the inside of the wall feels "right" small cramped defensive structure that one prays that they are not left to hold. :) Great job here. Also, not that I mind or anything, but is there a trend going on right now to "re-imagine" old sets? I just noticed there were more than a few of these being posted lately, I think it is cool, but just wondering if there was a contest or something like that?
  18. I noticed this too. Last Dec 26th at midnight there were a ton of sales that lasted until early the next morning (I am guessing it was AFOLs that cleared the shelves for Lego during that sale) This time, it was just a bunch of sets that were sold out. I was refreshing browser all night waiting for the real sale to start. Oh well.
  19. Merry Christmas right back! I hope everyone has a happy new year!
  20. I LOLed over the gator. Nice Duplo! I like the scene, keep up the great work -- lots of good story coming out of this.
  21. Weird that the low counts are all the dress wearing characters. My Fiance doesn't like to sit around while I do the "feel method" So I have gone back to just randomly grabbing CMFs. Other than the last set, most of the time I want multiples of the majority of the figs so it works out. If I could only figure out what to do with all the skateboarders... But, I think, after seeing this set I will want to take a little bit more time. Your scene is very inspiring, I didn't realize how nice these were going to look.
  22. Ohhhhh.... I was really worried I had missed an excellent deal!
  23. Is that a typo, or am I on the wrong page? I don't see anything that heavily discounted.
  24. Battle of the Goblin King is 20 dollars off at Amazon in the US. Probably the best price we are going to find on this before Christmas.
  25. Awesome scene! I like the leisure feel to it. I have some of these leaves also, but sadly have not been able to take them out and give them a try yet.
