Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
I definitely plan on coming back and commenting on a few of these in the week to come. So much good coming out of the guild. I hate that I had absolutely 0 time this month to participate. Great job everyone though! -

Looks absolutely awesome. I can't wait to find a moment to comment on it! I like the few entries our guild has set forth so far. I am sorry that without an extension, I won't be able to participate. But... I will let you all know what I was building. It turns out I did not have the bricks to really do this the way I wanted, but.... I was building a giant statue (Like the Colossus at Rhodes) and then creating the refugee camp running off of it and around it all the way to the crown on the statue -- where the commanders would be meeting. It turns out to make a smooth statue, I don't have the bricks, but I decided to make a weathered shell (sort of like the sphinx before restoration) of the colossus and still run the refugee camp all the way around it. Almost like a tree house(s), only with a statue instead of a tree. Unfortunately. Due to work, I won't have time to finish it in time. But I look forward to seeing others' entries. -

Any chance that the deadline for V gets moved back a week or two? I am half built, but probably no way that I can finish this week. Work is a killer right now. -
Wow. Perfect. I love it, I don't agree with the sparseness comment about the bottom layer, to me that feels "old" and "spooky" like a thousand generations of soldiers came and went, and still the walls will stand echoing their memories through eternity.

Been gone awhile... sorry. Most importantly: I am glad to hear the better news Kayne, I wish your wife a speedy recovery now that you at least know what is going on! Also, welcome to Joseph! That would be awesome, she was very touched by the last representation by Kai (It has been a while, but I am pretty sure it was Kai's travel log - right?) Absolutely, MOC away. As for progress, I unfortunately only have this weekend to build... and the Weekend is almost over... grrr. What I have in mind is really complicated, so I may have to go to backup. Ouch!!!!!! I hope you recover soon. -
Excellent job! so many good camp details, and the idea for the pyrimid is great. Definitely a sacred location in Kaliphlin.

Jump on in, plenty of desert for everyone! -
I really like the unique woodwork here. Great job. I also like the feel of the courtyard areas, very much a natural medieval feel. Also, jealous that you Avalonians basically get all the new parts lately, as TLC seems to love green! :)

Yes, we could have different leagues - make it run like soccer leagues, with winners moving up, and those scoring the least moving down. I would gladly provide prizes for the second tier. (as long as we are not talking a new series of 6 challenges). I thought free was 200 pics a month or 2 videos? Did it change? Shows how long it has been since I posted many pictures. Not that I can find my password for my original account. ---- Finally.... To the topic that has generally been thrown around the last month. I will stick around for GoH, I have too much tan not to, too many ideas (if I ever get building time), also, I am willing to help direct plot if we need be. I would also help judge entries if we do another round of major challenges - since, I have only had time to do 2 of 4 challenges, that might be a better job for me. As for getting some fresh blood, I would be willing to write a campaign that was more member v. member - perhaps a new continent has been found and even though the guildmembers are not permitted to fight in Historica, guildies could go to the new continent where it is every man / woman for himself and carve out a personal empire... while paying taxes back to the guilds, of course! I think there are many ways we could go, throwing in new elements and mini-challenges. I do fear that without a major storyline we will see very little new blood.

I like it! Really cool that you MOCed that! We will give you a very detailed map as a parting gift , for Kaliphlin's border is not the Red River, but we own the entire southern portion of the Witherwood on the west side of the river also. Also, please take fresh supplies, linens, silks, fruits, and oil to start your campfires.

Your builds always bring a smile to my face. Love the layering, and I really wish I could build circular everytime I see a great circular build. I think this already has a chance of being one of my top five (I know it is early, but I really like the flow here.)

It went well! She said yes, I actually did it on the people mover in Tomorrowland inside the Magic Kingdom. It is one of our favorite rides, and I didn't want to do something that many other people had done (IE: in front of the castle). Unfortunately, on a lego note, I didn't find enough pieces at PAB at downtown Disney to make it worth the extra carryon price Spirit charges. -

Dang it! I got paid today, I saw it yesterday, thought surely I could sneak one off today when I get paid. Nope. Well, I might still get it at full price from S@H. -

I LOLed too on that one. I agree, CBB is a valuable member of this group, and I hope he is just pulling our legs. We would really miss his MOCs. -
I imagine this little lord is really a cajun, loves Alligator and makes his living selling them... or maybe he is just a smuggler. For some reason, after I built it, it screamed Louisiana Bayou meets high elves to me. Haha. Man, now that is what I should have done, Cajun Elves. Or maybe just Redneck Elves.

Thank you, and everyone who has viewed and commented! I appreciate the feedback.

I agree, I will miss him - always a good laugh, and you always need a heel!!! They are really hurting over there, as I think Hersb.... can't remember the name, but the werewolves, is breaking for a while too if I remember correctly. That is two big builders gone, along with numerous people saying that they are on hiatus. We may have only 3 guilds + 1 new (if people are allowed to join that one) soon! As for your guild Gabe, definitely one of my favorites. Actually, I enjoyed all of our guild's entries (and some of the other guild's too!!!) No she is going to have to sign up though, as I was already told you can only enter one entry for C5. So she will have to stop lurking and create a fig and join up. She would probably join us, so no rivalry there. -
Thank you.

I saw this on my phone yesterday, and I was excited to finally see it on a monitor. Looks beautiful, as Gabe said, the simplicity and the curves really make this a unique addition to Kaliphlin architecture. To me this screams our guild, but does not seem to repeat what any of us have done at all. Great job!

Good to have you back, glad to see you got your entry in. I really liked your ideas when were were shooting messages back and forth. I have an idea for something that I think will be unique, the problem is, I think it is beyond my skill level to pull off. Although, I do picture a lot of challenge 5 entries that revolve around old cathedrals or stone henge(s) with camps in them. My girlfriend is building a cave system for the challenge, but I don't think caves photograph well at all - definitely not going to discourage her from building it though. On another note... I finally got internet at home back today, so I did get up some pictures of my Vignette: "The Least of the Marshlords." I know it is late (I really did finish it on the 20th!) But, I wanted to prove that I actually have finished something in the last 6 months. DSC_1864 by skaforhire, on Flickr -
So, I did not have internet at home for about half a week, and could not get these up in time. But, I did want to prove that I had actually finished something. So, please enjoy "The Least of the Marshlords." Or hate it - that's cool too. :) On another note... the worst part about building this very rickety build was the central stairs that spiral up. Silly me never took a picture of just the stairs before dismantling this thing.... here is one of the better shots. As you can see, Enith and his men have great senses of balance. SoT - I know it probably won't count, but today is the first day I got my internet at home back since Tuesday night, so I updated the pictures in my Guild file and put in the vignette. I know it is late, and probably won't count but I wanted to prove I had actually finished something finally. If it makes it any better, I actually did finish this on the 20th!
