Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
So this means that it will go back to Garvey? (Or was it Mardier?) Original Owners? You mean back to Dr_spock, who captured the vessel in the first place, I assume. -
I mean really... the king might be persuaded if he has followers cheering him on still.

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Attention Corlanders: 1) I will be out of town pretty much for the rest of this week. Don't burn the nation down. Send Scarst messages if you need immediate guidance. 2) The 50 pages of private threads is a bit much. So here is what we will do to uncomplicate things. Subscribe to the threads you want to be a part of by signing up here, and I will try to get them made before or during my trip. There will be a Diplomacy / government thread, a MRCA and Trade Thread, and we will use the current thread as general discussion. So if you want added on the Diplomacy or MRCA thread, then state it in this thread.- 897 replies

You have struck Mercury You have struck Silver (of course, I guess you need some of Gideon's new found quicksilver to purify what you find!)

This is going to sound bad -- but if you are one of the people waiting to hear about a mine you put up LAST month, please remind me of who you are and where you put up your mine. Thank you!

Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yes, this was kind of my thought about how piracy within a faction could be handled, or even, if the judge is nice, levy a fine. We might not have enough membership to eject people too often though. I have proposed a little bit of help for the MRCA and the Sea Rats, I am just waiting to see if there are any leadership objections before it becomes official. It should help ease the burden while we still play under MRCA I. -
Calling Volunteers! Eslandola Vs. Mardier - Build Off
SkaForHire replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ok, I can't keep up today after 4 hours of reading and responding to much more of this, but some huge corrections here: NOWHERE does it say what level a ship will be replaced at. Also, the Sea Rat faction IS NOT under 3 vessels (they have a 4A), and should actually NOT get a new vessel. If a new vessel was awarded, then it would have to be determined what size vessel by leadership. Second, Tarlo is in Mardier -- the Sea Rats hit Mardier, not Eslandola. -
Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
There is an important distinction that is being blurred here. In character versus out of character. The courts are in character, the factions control them. The game mechanics are out of character. The game is not rigged against the Sea Rats, the factions are. This is expected since the Sea Rats are assumingly people unwilling to be loyal to any one nation, making them unpredictable and un-protectable by many of the courts of the "civilized" world. In fact, Sea Rats could ACTUALLY hold their own courts, you have no government, you all can create whatever you wish out of it, even raise taxes if you want. (ie: and income tax) settlement Raiding is meant to be hard, but you will notice that there is no squadron limit to settlement raiding for a reason... It will also pay a lot better in the next version. Commerce raiding is a bit off, but I think the new version gives many more chance to catch prey. Also, with the war rules, you could easily just blockade Nelissa until you got your ships back... but those are still a few months off. Bottom line, the full rules have to come slowly because a) they are cumbersome to a new game b)parts had to be large scale play tested. -
Calling Volunteers! Eslandola Vs. Mardier - Build Off
SkaForHire replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think just 20 bonus is too small in this case, ESL wins, that is 450 DBs in just warship alone. It has to be higher, if not 100%, I would say a 40% commission, split three ways. -
Challenge II - Defending Yer Claims! [RESULTS POSTED]
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Those are faction leaders when there is another choice below them. Faction leaders received the same amount of DBs as they were entitled to as if they won, but their place was taken by the next non-faction leader.- 92 replies

Calling Volunteers! Eslandola Vs. Mardier - Build Off
SkaForHire replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ok I stopped reading the onslaught of posts about at this point -- but I disagree here. There are a few problems: one, technically Mardier has a court schedule like ESL and COR, if we are starting it now, then no more cases will be heard for three months. Also, L'Olius has been a privateer menace for three months now, and has actually captured other player ships already. He WILL use the warship for his fleet if he wins the challenge, that was always planned. This is not a MRCA result build off, it is a COURT CASE. If defeated, ESL will lose the vessels for good, MAR will gain money in the bank, L'Olius will have a 5HA, and the trade ship will probably be auctioned off. --- Here is my proposed Solution for incentive: MAR, specifically L'Olius, is paying these three builders as "lawyers" so they shall be entitled to the price of the ships divided between each of them if they win. This represents L'Olius "paying" his lawyers. In addition, the three builders could have first dibs on buying the trade ship at 70%. Additionally, because MAR is an actual nation, these things can happen. COR could not recover the HMS Mermaid, because a Pirate took it, and there is no legal recourse to that. Now that pirate has been sailing in the MRCA. -
Challenge II - Defending Yer Claims! [RESULTS POSTED]
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Challenge II RESULTS Faction winnings: 1st place 100% of the wealth generated by your team's entry, 2nd place 80% 3rd: 60% 4th: 40% So if what a team earned was 150DBs, the faction would also earn this much in DBS and FIPs. In the same example, if the same nation got second place they would only net 120DBs and FIPS (80%) chal2 p2 by skaforhire, on Flickr Earned DB Awards for this Challenge: Participating in one Category= 15 DBs / PiPs / Score points to those not doing the economic system. Participating in both Categories = 40 " / " / " ALSO: Best faction build for each challenge category = 20 " / " / " Second place faction build for each challenge category= 10 " / " / " Third Place Faction build for each challenge category = 5 " / " / " Overall winner for each challenge category = 50 " / " / " Overall second place for each challenge category = 40 " / " / " / " Overall 3rd place for each challenge category = 30 " / " / " / " A builder can only receive one reward per category, the highest possible out of their two options. Auction! Bloody Bill's Booty for Sale!
SkaForHire replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That would be fun to see how much bloody bill could make before one of the factions finds him and kills him. -
This has not been determined, but will be determined in the MRCA 2. There will be company upkeep. Most likely similar to faction upkeep, with a few free ships.

Royal Society of Natural Philosophy - General Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The Queen assumes that this new branch of one of her most favorite societies was fully registered with its parent organization, the Royal Society of Natural Philosophers, based in Belson, Her Majesty's Greatest City of Knowledge and Power? She would hate for Lord Pennington to find that the society had not correctly been registered in the Great Book of Tax and Law properly.- 42 replies

I think we missed this in the revamp, because I know that the last time this came up I edited the rules to show it, but I can't find it in our new version. As the next island group starts appearing, there will be way more islands than possible future claims. These first months was a slow crawl to test out everything... we will be hitting stride with features such as the expanding map in the next month or so.

Calling Volunteers! Eslandola Vs. Mardier - Build Off
SkaForHire replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I agree, but I think this was supposed to be opened to ESL first, and if they could not fill their side, then they would take on soldiers of fortune, but I will let Kai clear that up. BTW, the Mardier side pays 10DBs as well! -
