  1. the MRCA form for may is up and running with the contractor option. There is a new army raising form And a form telling us where units are located. Use this form to move forces from now on.
  2. I am doing Mardier, Scarst is Prio
  3. The Corland supplier was calculated wrong when I did the original stats as I thought it was a 2f. It should only be 10, but I announced it wrong so I left it. Peregrine could up to 20, if the player wants. All 0s got 5 men period. As for why the crews are larger, it is because the C stat is fighting crew, not sailing crew. Sometimes these would have doubled, but in the case of vessels sailing off to a land war, they piled as many troops on as possible.
  4. I forgot to post a very important point -- you ALWAYS get one action, even if you only have five men. So you can use a turn to recruit and bring a bigger ship, or you can allow a friend to use your men on the island already. The players can do whatever they want. That might be a hint towards a possible third outcome. I think it is safe to say that L'Olius likes cash and that Ska wants to use his L'Olius fig. However, nobody said that King's Island wouldn't hire the most famous Mardier privateer away from his current employer for the promise of gold and a pardon...
  5. No -- even though men might be killed, the owner of the ship still has that ship when they want to withdraw, are knocked out, or decided to leave. They just can't use that ship in the MRCA until they are no longer part of the battle. Well.... Mardier will look for some mercenaries -- and nobody said you had to stay with the side you start on. Well you are the only tie to the island for Oleon, you might want to just participate one turn and recruit another and then leave. Yes, lets say this is a limited play test, limited in size by the initial participants who are being rewarded for taking the special mission last month. Factions don't matter, but it might be the best way to get an invite to the island. Although, you could always attack people from your own faction if you wanted. Forces are committed by ship to the battle. Therefore if you bring two ships, and pull out with one ship, you still have one shipload of men left fighting. They could use an action to re-invite your other ship back at a later time. Once you are off the island, you need someone else to invite you back. Any forces used on the island during this battle (projected to last 3 months) cannot be used in the MRCA until they are clear of the island. At a later time there may be one more chance for people not originally committed to enter, but that is not guaranteed. ___________________________________ From Governor Morelli of King's Island, Mardier. To all interested captains of the Brick Seas, The Great Empire of Mardier is looking to commission two privateers in its war against the outlaw Alexander Prio. In addition to the military commission on the Isle de Romantica, you will be given a letter of marque to hunt Prio's ships with another vessel (you may hand this commission off to another captain if you do not have the vessels to both fight on the island and at sea). We are looking for volunteers with strong forces to start, and they will report to Captain L'Olius, our commander in this expedition. You will be paid in the following manner: Top contender will earn 3DBs for every contribution point times amount of hexes held at the end of the war. Second contender will earn 2DBs for every contribution point times the amount of hexes held at the end of the war. Every other contender will earn 1db per "" "" "" ""
  6. Call a friend! :) - It was late and I forgot to mention that as long as the players are from the same faction, they can combine forces. An alternative here would be to raise private troops (albeit having to pay for them each month through the EGS) and dispatch them to the island. Well, you picked up on that early, Mardier is going to call for volunteers also. But yes, Mardier is Prio's enemy. One of the reasons that faction ships can't join is that it would cause a war, but factions don't necessarily control their members, so individual players could stay and be mercenaries. Yes, all forces used here will be unable to participate in the MRCA However, as long as your side prevails, there is a financial pay out that will rival a good MRCA run or two or ten.
  7. The Battle for the Grand Duchy of Prio the prio sea area by skaforhire, on Flickr duchy of prio by skaforhire, on Flickr Last month, Lord Alexander Prio, one of the King of Mardier’s viceroys in the Far Seas, called for volunteers to help him tame the island of Ilse de Romantica. Those volunteers came from all four of the main factions, and they were rewarded. At the end of the month, Prio declared himself Duke Prio, of the Independent Grand Duchy of Prio of Isla de Romantica. (GDPIR). The Mardier Far Island Fleet operating from King’s Island, about 300 miles to the north has been dispatched to take back the island. Mardier is in a Civil War and is spread thin, so it only has a few ships and men to dedicate to this cause. The Mardier military has contacted the remnants of the natives that Prio had recently crushed, and has now enlisted them to sweep the island and take and hold territory. Prio is determined to keep his Duchy, and he believes that his new friends may be willing to help him fight for what is his. He has a large war chest, so rewards will be given to those who conquer and hold territory. Rules: Turns: Each turn is 7 days, or whenever the last person has made a move, whichever comes first. To win: A side will win when it either a)sues for peace, or b)wipes its enemy(ies) from the island. An Army: An army consists of at least 20 men. For every 20 men, it gains a rank. Every space that an army occupies becomes part of that player’s territory. It stays that player’s territory until another army from another player captures it. Actions: It is very simple, for every 10 men that you have on the island, you get one action each turn. So if you have 20 men on the island you will get 2 actions per turn. Build: Form a small wartime settlement on the island. This raises your “Contribution Rating” by 1. Remember, your team has to win the war in order to pay you though! If you build a MOC representing this, you will get +2 Contribution rating instead of +1. Recruit: You may invite another ship to join you. You can only Recruit once a turn. This ship must be licensed, but does not have to belong to you. You cannot call a faction owned ship. Each ship brings its 10 * class level + 5 men per Crew level. So a 2A would bring 25 men. (Prio and Mardier can recruit twice per turn.) If you invite another builder to the island that is not already playing, they now become a player as well, and may make actions next turn. Recruited vessels start anywhere on shore that is neutral or owned by an ally (or yourself!). You may also invite EGS registered troops (belonging to you, or somebody else) but the maximum amount of troops per invite is 90. Like normal troop movement, a specific registered vessel is not needed to transport them to the island. However, troops must land in an allied zone, not a neutral or enemy zone. Attack: to attack, you declare an attack on a hex that is owned by anybody other than you, as long as you have an army adjacent to that space. An attack is resolved by comparing the two ranks. A tie goes to the defender. The winner holds the hex, the loses retreats and is reduced in rank, or is destroyed. If there is no open space for the loser to retreat to, the army is captured and taken off the board. A unit is reduced one rank when it loses a battle unless the attacke is twice as strong as the defense, in this case, the defending army is reduced to half of its total rank, rounded up. An army may only attack or move once per turn, not both. IE: A rank 6 attacks a rank 5, the rank 5 retreats and is reduced to a rank 4. OR a rank 8 army attacks a rank 4 army, the rank 4 army retreats and is reduced to a rank 2 army. Support: An army that is adjacent to another army can support the that army. An army may support another army’s attack or defense. If an army supports a defensive army (one which has not moved), the full rank of the support army is added to the defending army. If an army supports an offensive move, only half of the support army's rank is added to the moving / attacking army. (This includes supporting an army into an unoccupied hex) If the supporting army is attacked, then its support is broken. Move: you can move an army to any unoccupied hex that is adjacent to your army. Any army can move up to three spaces across water, because they all have a vessel. To capture a water space, they must have ended a turn in that space. On land an army can only move one space at any time. An army may only move or attack once per turn, not both. Divide: Your army can divide into separate armies, but the second army must be adjacent to the first. Each army must have a rank of at least 1 Merge: An army may merge with another army owned by a player on the same team. Special Rules: Attacking from multiple sides (flanking) – when an army is attacked from multiple sides, it fights at a rank lower for each side it is attacked on – 1. (being attacked on three sides would decrease the defender’s rank by 2) Mocing an attack or a defense. If you are conducting an attack, and MOC the attack or a defense, you gain 1 rank for that army. (one moc per army) Submitting Movements: All movements happen at the same time. Each player will secretly submit their movements to Skaforhire. All MOCs must be submitted for that week must be within 24 hours of the deadline in order to get the benefits associated with them. If two armies attempt to occupy a space without one declaring an attack, then the larger army (including any support it may have) will take the space. Ships used in this war cannot be used in the MRCA until you pull out of the war with that ship. Here are the current players : Deployment list ship by ship. If you do not want to play, just either pass or do not post by the deadline ( May 29th by midnight anywhere in the world) Here is the order of deployment, preference goes to ships listed highest. (Based on troops) White skull 25 men (SR) Corland Supplier, 20 men COR The Novitus 20 men Alexander 20 men (COR) Golden Star 20 men (ESL) Peregrine, 10 men (COR) Wight spider 10 men (SR) Small fishin boat 5 men (OL) La Espada 5 men (ESL) HMS isandlwana 5 men (COR) To play just post a description of where you want your army to start, it is best to give three options (better if you just download the map and mark the spots you want to start on in order). Your original deployment hex must be on a coast and not in territory occupied by Mardier or Prio. Remember, if you kept your ship here to fight this war, then it cannot participate in the MRCA this month, or any month until you are eliminated, pull out, or the war is over. If your ship leaves the island, so does your men. If you have less than 10 men, then you will need to recruit before you can attack. You can still defend as a rank 1 army, but you cannot attack or support. If you lose your soldiers / sailors, you DO NOT lose them in any other form in the MRCA / EGS Untitled-3 by skaforhire, on Flickr teststart by skaforhire, on Flickr
  8. Well, my intention was that sister-shipping only came after a ship was lost, I am not sure how this could be interpreted otherwise.
  9. No I was wrong, the Mars is active, it was just disabled in a fight, and when I looked at the list last week I didn't read carefully.
  10. You struck Copper. Yes, those who delivered the Shrimp Grapes are entitled to up to a free medium license for a commercial winery.
  11. Yes :) but something else is happening on the island as well, all will be revealed in a couple days.
  12. Corlanders, I started our new threads, if you did not get one, and wanted to be on either the military strategy, trade, or diplomacy threads, please let me know.
  13. Yes, you are entitled to the free residence. (when people use these, they will have to let the automation team know)
  14. Challenge Three – The quest for the Fountain of Youth It has been rumored that on Cato Calrelli’s second voyage in 599 to Nelisa he took along with him a Oleander priest who paid handsomely to join the expedition. On the 15th night of the journey, the priest of Zeus, Father Tholeau, snuck inside the captain’s boat and lowered her to the sea. Once detached from the fleet he set sail in the small skiff. The crew had no idea what had happened to the priest, but Calrelli pushed on to discover more of Eslandola’s new home “beyond the line.” After Calrelli encircled Nelisa, he began to make his way home, but before land was out of sight, a small sail was seen on the horizon. Fearing foreign explorers had found Eslandola’s secret, Calrelli boldly set to engage the vessel. What he found was his captain’s boat, empty except some clothing and a journal. There was no sign of Tholeau. Calrelli read the journal, and discovered that the priest had been obsessed with an ancient manuscript that stated that the Fountain of Youth lay on an island to the East of Halos. The journal detailed Tholeau's recent escapade and his discovery of three islands. On the third of those islands he found what he was looking for – the Fountain of Youth. Knowing he did not have enough supplies to try to follow Tholeau's poorly noted nautical directions, Calrelli decided to restock. Unfortunately, he was caught by hurricane that wrecked him and his fleet on the shores of Terraversa, and since then, he has been unable to get permission for another expedition. The journal was eventually taken to Arlington, and stored in the Cartography Academy. But somehow a copy of it slipped through the Academy's hands and through a series of accidents made its way to an enterprising printer. Now, adventurers from all corners of the Brick Seas are making their way to New Terra to try and follow the cryptic clues left by Tholeau. Category A: Finding the Fountain In this category you will show the discovery of the Fountain of Youth by your sig-fig or one of his/her associates. This can be almost any setting you wish, on the beaches of an island, in the dense jungles, on a desert island, in the ruins of a lost civilization, or maybe within an active civilization’s town! Maximum size 32x32, with minimal overhang. Deadline: July 1st. Extended deadline: July 10th However, those who submit entries by the original deadline will have a bonus applied to the judges' scores. [*]Post your entry in it's own thread, but be sure to provide a link below. Category B: What happened to Tholeau? Build 2 – 5 MOCs that tell the story of Father Tholeau after he left Calrelli’s fleet. You can represent the good priest in any way that you like. The MOCs and accompanying narrative should tell the story of Tholeau leaving the ships, finding the islands (he mentioned three in his journal), making his way to the fountain of youth, and disappearing. You must build between 2 and 5 MOCs. One of your MOCs is subject to a maximum of 12x12. No other size restrictions. You may not use your Category A MOC in your story. Deadline: July 1st. Post your entry in it's own thread, but be sure to provide a link below. Prizes As with the previous challenges, all players participating in the Economic Game System will be awarded with in-game DBs. Winning players will receive more DBs. In addition, Winner of Category A receives the right to style his/herself Discoverer of the Fountain of Youth. Winner of Category A picks an island on the new map (not yet released) for the fountain's location. That island will belong to the winner's faction, and the winner has the right to set up a settlement at that location and appoint his/her own mayor. Winner of Category B receives the right to style his/herself Revealer of Tholeau's Secret. The winning faction will choose three islands off the new map. All the other factions will choose two islands in the order in which they have placed.
  15. Two things that would help me greatly: If you set up a mine in April and need to know what you found, let me know. What were the names and island numbers every faction chose (for challenge I and II) so that I can get the maps updated.
  16. Actually, another action of yours was hinted at in the paper, but your captain made a wise decision not to attack a full escorted squadron with 5HAs Some courts don't meet each month, for example Mardier will be a few months away because they just met. Ska was tired? Sorry! I will try to be more creative with sinking ships. If it is mentioned at all then it happened, the first list should be complete... but I feel like a few losses are missing. I have to comb the results one more time. I could have sword we lost the HMS Mars for example, but I don't see it on this list. Yes, but faction forces can only be put on faction warships, not merchants, those have to be private. Although more crew does not help in the initial gunnery phase (MRCA 2, we will find a way to make better modifications.)
  17. They can't until it is determined who took them -- this would be determined through story builds to find the culprit. Kind of exactly how I thought this would go, as soon as nationality of the culprit were determined then proceedings to get the vessels back could happen, perhaps they would be settled out of court instead of having a court case after proof was already determined.
  18. Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List New Terra’s most reliable source for shipping news. May 616. VOL 1 ISSUE 4 Editor’s Column. Well, this month has been one of the most active for shipping losses due to combat. It seems that both the Oleon and Corrington Navy have been depleted through routine trade convoying. The amount of active pirates seemed higher than normal, and the rumor is that the Pennington and Pennington Insurance Company in Corrington may start charging double for ships traveling the far seas. That being said, the Oleanders pulled off a coup in shipping this month – despite catastrophic losses the last two months, they are now New Terra’s top shippers. Corrington beware! But perhaps both should take a cue from the Eslandolan sailors this month, who seemed to take care of pirates and trade in relative peace. Although none of the major pirates like Bloody Bill seemed to find an Eslandolan ship this month – perhaps they bribed the pirate lords? Perhaps one of the navies of the major powers should take on a punitive mission against one of these threats to teach them a lesson? A New King in Oleon! We wish him the best, he is going to need it with his cousin claiming the throne. Hopefully that bad blood does not deteriorate their relations. Of course, it is well known that the King of Oleon rather befriend Sea Rats than a Eslandolan these days! Tips and News: Breshaun Served by Corlanders!!! The famed Quick Wing convoy delivered building supplies from this port to Breshaun, and they were met with high selling prices and the smiles of their former enemy’s citizenry. Ilse de Romantica – A new kingdom. Lord Prio, formerly of this island, has claimed Independence from Mardier. With help from the crews of the Corland Supplier, Peregrine, Alexander, La Espada, Wight Spider, Golden Star, Small Fishin Boat, White Skull, and HMS Isandlwana Prio was able to eliminate the natives of the island. However, his new fiefdom is now divided between about 80 of his supporters and members of Corrington, Sea Rats, Eslandola, and a few from Oleon. Even though Prio has paid these mercenaries well, and given them one FREE Medium Residence plot, there is talk of trying to sway the island towards one of the larger nations. Time will tell what will happen here, as Prio has the strongest hold, but Corrington and the Sea Rats have a lot of strength on the island, and Eslandola is not too far behind. Ship building materials needed in Eltina. Merfin de’Marc, the son of the famous shipbuilder in Oleon has decided to attempt to build a new shipyard on Lebellan. To do this, he needs lumber in vast quantities delivered to the island from New Terra’s most promising forests. He will pay top dollar for good wood. This month we have many tales of naval glory to tell, so we will not be able to tell them all. Off the coast of Nova Terreli: Black Marlin Attacked by Garvey Privateer Flotilla under Admiral Mercedes, a three ship flotilla caught the little Coyle Co. trader, and almost had her taken when her escorts showed up. The HMS Mars was immediately disabled by the 5A “Hunter,” Merdedes’ flagship, but the HMS Pandora was able to defeat the “Catfish” and capture her, then turn on the Hunter and force her to surrender in a nasty gunnery duel. The last ship of the fleet, Alacante boarded the HMS Friends Forever, but was repelled and managed to get away. Why has Garvey allowed its fleets to pirate at will? Maybe Corrington should manage a reprisal. In nearly the same location, the Fairmont came under attack by the pirate LeColeon and his two ship squadron. LeColeon was able to trip the Fairmont’s escort, HRS Eltina into engaging his smaller vessel, a class 1A, and while the flotilla was engaged, LeColeon boarded Eltina and took here. He then sailed off with the his flagship and the Oleon Warship. In an unrelated battle, the pirate Montroy took the Meteor in the same area a few days later. Off the coast of Terraversa: Mardier Privateers attack Corrington fleet! Perhaps an Oleander payoff is to blame for all of these attacks on Corrington? The HMS Green Dragon was caught by Captain Vanderdank and his fleet (a 5A and a 4A), The HMS Mars is forced to strike its colors to Vanderdank’s flagship Death’s Jubilee. The HMS Pandora captures the Mardier’s Misfit, while the HMS Friends Forever took Death’s Jubilee, and HMS Pandora chased down the Mars and recaptured her. It was a close call this time, but the Mars would not stay as lucky. A day later the Raenette II was attacked and defended by the HMS Paradise by pirate Phillip Black, and in a separate attack the Raenette was attacked by Bloody Bonnie, who was warded off by HMS Lover’s Quarrel. Off the coast of Eslandola: The now infamous pirate Harrison Torn and his two ships attack the Oleon Trade fleet. They catch Revenant, and in an attempt to take her back, the HRS Granoleon takes on Torn’s flagship “Soldier of Fortune” but Torn, a former Corrington naval officer, overpowered the veteran crew of the Granoleon. The Zephyr and Starliner held off and then captured Torn’s second ship the Defender of Bastion, but Torn got away with his two prizes. A few days later, near the same location the HRS Breshaun captured a smaller war vessel, but none of its crew will talk about who they are or where they are from. The Galaxie took the pirate “Portrait of the King” the next day. Farther south: Carno Privateer El Matador attacked a flotilla of Oleon Merchants, now without their escort. They fought bravely, but the Fairmont and Torino were taken by the Privateer. The Empty Barrel was able to escape. In the same vicinity the pirate “Blind Jack” attacked the Dancing Dogfish, but her escort the HMS Whisper was able to force the pirate to surrender. Off the Coast of LeBellan, Ghosts from the Past Attack Corrington!: The former HMS Mermaid, now the Black Mermaid, captained by pirate lord Trevor Maskord, found its old convoy partner the HMS Queen’s Glory. Maskord, a disgraced Corrington naval captain, looking for revenge attacked the trade flotilla. His men boarded the escort, and took the Queen’s Glory after one of the bloodiest battles in years. His lieutenant, Phillip Greyskar put to death the whole crew of the royal ship in sight of the merchant flotilla. Then, without asking for surrender, the Black Mermaid turned its guns on the flotilla that consisted of the HMS Otter, The Morning Rose, and the Nightingale, and reduced it to timbers. A few of the survivors were picked up by the HMS Whisper the next day. L’Olius not as lucky this time!: L’Olius and his fleet of pirate dogges found a Corrington trade flotilla and attempted to claim it. This time, Captain Jack Hart of the HMS Paradise was able to hold off the pirate fleet long enough for his merchant flotilla to get into a battle line – unfortunately this led to the Paradise taking too much damage, and it was sunk before the battle line could reach it, Hart went down with the ship. The flotilla led by the Sparta, along with the Belson and the Raenette II took on the three pirate vessels. The Belson fended off L’Olius and his flagship, the Crooked Sparrow, while Sparta was able and take Tiny Sparrow in a boarding action, meanwhile the Raenette II took the Spotted Sparrow – L’Olius seeing that the winds of fortune had turned, sailed away before the flotilla could turn again onto him. In the same vicinity, The Belson, Sparta and Raenette II were challenged again. Their escort, the HMS Whisper had caught up with them, but was quickly taken in a surprise attack by a Garvey Privateer fleet. The three trade ships made a line of battle and soon the Sparta took the BLuebelt, and the other pirate sailed away as Belson boarded and retook the Whisper. At sea, the HMS Bullshark was taken by a Carno Privateer, but its merchant flotilla safely made port. Bloody Bill Strikes Again! -- One of the most feared pirates sailing the far seas has attacked a Oleon fleet. The famous, and fast Seven Seas Convoy, however, with special rigging it seems Bill and his vessels were able to cut off the convoy and attack. The convoy’s escorts stayed behind as the rest of the ships sailed for safety. Unfortunately the HRS Astrapi and HRS Loraithian were no match for Bloody Bill’s men, and in a boarding action, both were taken. Within 100 miles of the end of their journey, the rest of the squadron was attacked by an unknown large ship, it was able to overpower the Commerce de Breshaun and the Scimitar before sailing off, leaving only one ship to make port safely of the whole convoy. It is suspected that the unknown ship was from Namere. The Sea Rats merchant fleet also came under attack in this same area of the deep ocean. The Warbringer and La Oleon were taken by an Unknown fleet, but it is suspected that it was Captain Garius of the Mardier Navy and his squadron. The Golden Filly, Lady Jacqueline, undefended were attacked by a pirate calling himself Gregory Decker. He was able to force the Filly to surrender, where he moved his colors. Meanwhile the Lady Jacqueline was able to take “Lost at Sea” and Decker’s former flagship “Bonne Voyage” but was unable to muster an assault on the Golden Filly, which Decker sailed off to Bastion. Another attack on the Sea Rats merchant fleet by Captain Slooth, pirate, but no friend to Bastion. His little flotilla was met by Poseidon’s Revenge, but they were overpowered and taken. Slooth attacked the flotilla, but Night’s Gold forced Slooth in the Bonnie Lass to surrender, Absolutely Fabulous was able to keep his other ship at bay with their guns, while Night’s Gold forced the prize crew on Poseidon’s Revenge to surrender. Slooth got away on his smaller ship. 19. Most of the pirate activity happened in zones that had more than 40 player vessels in them, there was a modifier that increased activity for these zones. We had a surprisingly high catch rate, whereas in previous months many of the attacked ships simply sailed away. The Sea Rats caught... a Sea Rat.... and let them go. Also I won't say who else they should have caught, but they specifically said in their MRCA form not to attack one of the nations, which they caught three times!!!
  20. I am not that mean... Well, some of you are going to think so after this post. But, I will let you know who did not make it home this month, and leave the epic battles for the newspapers. IT was NOT a good month to be a warship... These might not be all the casualties, It was a quick look over the list. This may allow some of you to start building your result builds though. April Casualty List, by Pennington and Pennington Insurance. Corrington HMS Queens Glory – taken by pirates HMS Otter – Sunk by Pirates Nightingale – Sunk by Pirates The Morning Rose – Sunk by Pirates HMS Bull Shark – Taken by Carno Privateer Corland Provider – Mutiny Golden Filly – Taken by pirates HMS Lover's Quarrel - taken by pirates HMS Paradise - Destroyed by pirates Eslandola Stubborn Stern – Sank at Sea. 21. A little bit of all that. I actually don't have the gold totals rolled yet, and have to go out of town... I had posted something that had happened, then I realized it didn't --- because I read the targets wrong. Lets just say that I thought Eslandola wiped out a whole Oleon fleet.... But that is now in bizzaro BoBSland... I will say that Corrington's luck did not hold, and Karma is eh.... ah... yeah. One nations made it through virtually unscathed though.
