  1. There are no large licenses in any of the forms for anyone -- you registered a small factory, 3 small artisans, and a small residence over the two months, that is 22. Also, as long as you marked MCRA result in the form, it counted as a MRCA result and not a 3rd free build. On another note, these types of inquiries are probably best for the general thread, since they are not about the MRCA
  2. Definitely one of my favorite MRCA reactions! Great story!
  3. Really quick, because I don't have a lot of time: 7 zones, so 7 rolls to A)sink B)Hit a "golden voyage" which doubles your yield. You are going to see a lot of similar numbers as there are more ships because we start with the same base value of the trade centers added together in a convoy. Was their a free build form filled out for both? I knew you guys could take the joke, that's why the article was in there :)
  4. I would say it was not as lucky as the first go around, but Corrington has a bigger merchant fleet, and I believe the majority went on the most risky 7 zone journey possible, which meant those who made it paid out pretty well with average rolls. Actually, KB's 3 zone run with excellent rolls surprised me the most, I didn't think a ship could be that profitable on such a short run.
  5. There are more pirates than just one in most zones. Traveling as a group means defense that a normal merchant did not have. A 2A pirate is going to have the advantage on a 2f trader every time. The choice the pirate makes is completely random.
  6. Correct on the missing challenge DBs, that was just pointed out to me by another member too. Sorry, I forgot to add that last column. I will have to redo the scores later. This does have January in there as well though.
  7. Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List New Terra’s most reliable source for shipping news. February 616. VOL 1 ISSUE 2 Editor’s Column: We hope that every one of our regular readers is safe, unless they are a pirate, and in that case, we hope Hurricane Helga helped them meat Davey Jones. It has been a wild month in New Terra, the Civil War between our island and our mother country has grown larger, and more privateers are arriving here every day to harass Mardier’s shipping. Then, the unexpected Hurricane coming in from as far away as Berelli, many of those same privateers ended up wrecked! It was a bad month for shipping because of this, with an unusual amount of ships foundering in the high seas and many forced back to port without completing their trading. The other nations of the Madrice Peninsula have been busy! Corrington and Eslandola have claimed two newly discovered islands, while Oleon, Garvey, and even the Sea Rats have claimed one each! Rumor that more islands are being fought over at this moment! But you all are not reading this to hear about recent history; you want to know where to send your next ventures. Tips: This is the section where we include the juiciest morsels of shipping information that we have gleaned from the taverns of Terraversa, that and the vilest slander and lies a pirate could tell! Use these tips at your own risk! MAESTRO Destroyed! The almost famous Green Viking Trade route met an infamous end rather quickly this month. Rumor has it that the small squadron sailed straight into Hurricane Helga, when the Knight of Stedor was lost in the swell. Fleeing the winds, La Defensora had to fight off a pirate boarding at high seas, but made it to New Terelli and made a profit. Unfortunately the Wringe I and its escort, The Fallen Angel met up with the infamous pirate Zublious Van Wreck. The two vessels were last seen manned by prize crews on their way to the Nest of Thieves. We can only assume that this is the end for the young trading company. We expect stocks in the MCTC to sky rocket now that their chief competitor is crushed. We think that Elysabethtown will be sold to MAESTRO’s creditors, and once again the price on Apples will come back down to normal rates now that the company’s reign of terror in the fruit market is over! Hurricane Helga claims much of the merchant fleet! Besides the Knight of Stedor, Helga’s destruction of the merchant marine of New Terra has been devastated. Notable ships amongst the list: Poseidon’s Wrath, The Mercator, and The Red Dragon, we have no word of their crews. Those ships effected by Helga in other ways included The Sphinx, the Stubborn Stern, The Valkyrie, and the Black Marlin. Some of those vessels were lucky to make a small profit, others were forced back to their original port. Bad Weather in the southern regions of the Sea of Storms and Terraversa Sea! It is thought that with one hurricane, a second always follows. A witch doctor from Berelli has reported that they have seen the second, much more devastating hurricane in their divining drinks. This Hurricane, which will bring fourth their version of Poseidon, shall strike the waters of New Terra later this month. Stay north! The King of Oleon desires shrimp wine. From Granoleon we are hearing that the King has a condition that leaves his desire for shrimp wine simply unsatiated. Shrimp wine, that nasty juice priests use in rituals, is a rare commodity, especially when its main ingredient, the shrimp grape only grows in the tropics. Perhaps some entrepreneurial souls will take on the task to quench the king’s thirst? The Queen still desires Bananas! With her pregnancy causing all sort of problems, one thing remains constant, The Queen of Corrington’s desire for Bananas. Luckily, Terraversa is full of such wonderful delights. An enterprising merchant may find a tidy profit in a quick run between this island and Belson. But I wouldn’t stop anywhere in between, the Queen in hungry and Bananas do not stay ripe forever! Letter to the Editor from Sir Richark Star, of Corrington. Dear Fool, Her Majesty, Queen Annetta, is in perfect health, without child. Her purity is a model for any man or woman of this world. Her love for humanity and her subjects knows no end, and she has no time for courting at this moment. Corrington grows faster and stronger every day, and the Queen has a few years before she needs to be thinking about an heir. Her time is spent strategizing the best way to crush Oleon and dispensing judgment against those like you who personally attack her. If you ever step foot on Corrington soil, prepare to duel! Our response: It looks like we have found the father of the Crown Prince or Princess. Corrington Ship caught twice, not so lucky the second time! The famed Merry Lyric convoy, the richest of all convoys, came under heavy attack this month, with ships turning back in the midst of a hurricane; those who trudged on were target of numerous pirates. For some reason the Sphinx found itself in trouble more than once, each time the HMS Mermaid came to its rescue. The First time, against the Garvey Privateer The Wisper. The Mermaid was boarded and captured, and then crewed with a prize crew right away. The two ships fought against the convoy’s other two escorts, the HMS Bull Shark and HMS Pandora. The Pandora took down the privateer, and the Bull Shark caught, boarded, and retook the Mermaid. But that was not all the action, later on near Terraversa, the pirate “Friends Forever” attacked the Sphinx again, the Mermaid came to protect her, but surrendered after receiving a few heavy broadsides from Friends Forever. She struck her colors, and before the Bull Shark could catch her again, she slipped away in the night. Pandora was able to subdue the Friends Forever with a few broadsides and brought her into New Terrelli. If you are part of the Corrington Navy, you must have to wonder about Captain Jack Tallyand’s ability to command – losing the ship twice, and now a prisoner, most likely in Bastion, he probably isn’t getting a seat at the admiralty board anytime soon. If you are an Oleander, you probably thought this was the logical outcome for a Corlander warship. 9. I am always on, because I leave the EB windows up for BoBS and GOH whenever my computer is up. I am one of those people with 140 tabs open at a time.
  10. Well, that is where the name came from... lol Sorry, you all are going to have to wait another day I think... I just spent 10 hours in the last 18 hours calculating and fighting battles... I have all the totals, I just don't have the muster to write it up. And, I do have to grade about 150 papers today... So, all I will say is that some people are going to be very happy, some are not, and that all nations had a few really good showings, and one trade company should probably just file for bankruptcy.
  11. Word has come into Arlinsport that the Mermaid is no longer with the fleet. Stay tuned.
  12. Can you use these two pictures instead: dogfish by skaforhire, on Flickr HMS Bull Shark by skaforhire, on Flickr I ask because I spent a bunch of time cutting out background in the rigging, and the two pictures you used were kind of just blah. EDIT: I know those two were too big of a size, but flickr has other options.
  13. I am talking about galleons and large carracks, Henry VIII's navy versus the Navy of Nelson, the sterncastles were much higher. The problem I am having is finding good links about sterncastles, as it seems to be a unpopular topic in today's internet world. I may have to go to the bookshelf -- to be continued!
  14. Perhaps this was different in Europe, but American Snows were brigs with a spanker on the main mast. However, I suppose by the time Americans were building ships, the mizzen may have moved into the main. However, without a square on the main (even though it is too small for me to feel good about calling it the main mast) she is pretty much a hermaphrodite brig gone wrong! So this is something that keeps coming up, and I agree with the criticism here, but sterncastles were generally high for most of the age of sail on warships. In the model, I don't think it flows well, but I think it is the right height for a war ship of this size. But anyway, you are right, the ship would have to have a very deep draft in order to fire a broadside! And resetting those cannons afterwards would be too time consuming. She is not wide enough. The guns should be of a smaller variety.
  15. Thank you everyone for the comments! The Red Beard Runner hull is hard to work on, but I have so many of them! I have the list made, but I will send it to you and get your opinion, there are a few others I plan on getting it to before we go public with it. There are some changes to trade ships in the current list as well. I didn't think about how the spanker would need to be lower, that is because it is usually controlled on the quarterdeck, is it not? Assuming she does not sink, for the MRCA build this time around I may re-rig her more properly. Next time I promise that I will put a trade ship on the market with more time for everyone to react. I was very happy to work with Mike S. again though, as it is kind of in character for the Coyles and Woodbrose to work together, however, I would have been more than thrilled to have you in on this ship as well! (and pretty much anyone in Corrington!) I crossed my fingers that one of you would buy in before a foreigner! Now I have to find time to write the charter.
  16. I am not going to be the one collecting those stats...
  17. I know, sorry! It was last minute, I realized with a significant boost, we could get the ship up to a 5T, but we were up against the deadline :(
  18. HMS Bull Shark | Skaforhire | Corrington That is no Oleander Vessel | Skaforhire | Corrington (MRCA Build) The Dancing Dogfish | Skaforhire | Corrington
  19. The Dancing Dogfish With the new normal being villains of all nations in the Terraversa Sea and beyond, a merchant needs to have a little protection. Larger vessels are taking to the water, armed with enough guns to scare away the smaller riffraff. But cannon take space, and on a smaller ship, that cannon space means less room for cargo and less money on a voyage. But a new class of ships are quickly becoming a normal sight in the far waters – the Terraman, a large trader with room for a few large guns to chase away even the most devious of pirate. The Dancing Dogfish is a converted warship from Corrington’s Southern fleet. Bought by Admiral Woodbrose, and with money put up by the Bank of Arlinsport and the Coyle family, she will be setting sail in February, and hopes to turn a quick profit. dogfish by skaforhire, on Flickr Her captain, Lord Hal Sellers, has a great deal of experience at sea, once a victorious captain in the Juniper War, he has now turned to merchant life. Buying a small stake in the ship, he hopes to teach his boy a thing or two about life at sea. DSC_2809 by skaforhire, on Flickr But the boy has grown up too close to court, and now makes friends with the drunkards and gamblers that run the ship everyday. DSC_2818 by skaforhire, on Flickr Still, it seems that there are secrets aboard this vessel… as it is rare that members of the Queens Guard would be on a merchant vessel. In time… rumors will spread, but for now, we must only wonder. DSC_2824 by skaforhire, on Flickr DSC_2825 by skaforhire, on Flickr I just did not have another square sail available, so she is a little naked. Her hodgepodge of sails are due to an issue with getting new sails when she stopped in Eslandola. Her stores had been eaten by rootworm, and there wasn’t a good cloth maker in all of Terrelli. So she had to make do with old sails she bought from a few passing Corlanders. DSC_2841 by skaforhire, on Flickr She has a large cabin, and three decks, although the gun deck, now toned down to just four a side, is a bit of a squeeze. Too much of a squeeze to make it look good enough to show! Coming soon: The Vessel’s charter.
  20. That’s no Oleander Vessel! Miles Bryan was awakened from his slumber on deck the Swift Packet by a shout. “Oleander Vessel to the rear! Coming upfast!” Said Jym Hakins. The boy did have a good eye… Miles came to the rear railing and immediately grabbed a musket. DSC_2794 by skaforhire, on Flickr “That ain’t no Oleander Vessel, son!” and he fired at the small skiff giving chase. He could see with his one good eye the blood stains on the Oleander uniforms. These were pirates! As if to confirm his suspicions, they unveiled their blue pirate flag. DSC_2791 by skaforhire, on Flickr “Haul up the main sail, let’s make some speed!” he yelled, they were only at half sail because the Pandora, their escort was chasing down a pirate, Pardisio that had given chase to the Saucy Jack, also in their flotilla. He was pretty sure he could have turned and let the long 6s blow the little craft out of the water, but he was light on crew and knew that handling the vessel and firing would be risky if the little skiff closed on them. He let off another musket shot and cursed at the pirates, but they were already pulling away from the blue bandits… DSC_2801 by skaforhire, on Flickr I was going to photoshop this last one to look like dusk... but yeah... got busy. I guess this is a skiff -- anyone want to buy a skiff? haha.
  21. It is midnight anywhere in the world for all contests and deadlines.
  22. I wondered about the selection myself for that very reason... but what is done is done. On another note, I am about to register the Dancing Dog tonight, she is big enough to be a Class 5 T, but Scarst and I only have enough cast for a 4 T 2, so we would love to bring on an investor at 100dbs for a 1/4th share. or two 50DB 1/8th Share. Since time is of the essence, and I am technically at work, I cannot draw up the ship terms, but they would be similar to what Bregir has written and were adopted for the Sulky. If you are interested, post here and send me the DBs right away. If only one person invests, with only 50DBs then I will refund their money before the night is over, so you have it back right away. This is open to any investors, but those of foreign origin should be aware that in the final contract, there will be a provision that gives us the right to buy you out at face value (50DBs or 100DBs) in case of war between our two nations.
  23. Oh, it definitely should have been a square -- but I didn't have the parts handy, so some how its a lateen jammed in there. It would technically be a snow, I believe, if that square would have been square. Yes, I would say I started it when I was 18 or so, so end of childhood. I never had a dark age. Just dark periods.
  24. I approve also, but I think the masts are spread too far apart. To Mike's comment, we need to see the shipyard so we can raid it to keep all those Oleon ships from spawning!!!! But more seriously, I think we would have to limit that only one ship at a time can be represented by a digital MOC, even in different color schemes, just like brick built MOCs.
