  1. I'm currently working on building the Santa Fe carriages (10022) in light bluish grey (have already completed the engine - 10020 - in LBG) and I am just waiting on the last couple of Bricklink orders to arrive. I believe I have made significant savings by building in LBG as the parts in that color are more prevalent in Bricklink. I have also saved money by ordering enough parts for two carriages at the same time. I am planning on posting my completed train on here once its built. BTW, the stickers will be the trickiest part I believe.
  2. I dare someone to click on that link!!!
  3. I agree, it's either one person or a very small group. These sets definitely don't look like they were "designed by a committee"!!! No watering down here!
  4. Hmmmm, that might be the answer to getting more love from TLG in regards to trains - Lego needs a strong competitor in the model train market and just maybe we will get more choices!
  5. I too have been interested in the history of the grey era for a long time, and haven't been able to find much. A while back I contacted @LEGO Historian (Gary Istok) as I thought he might know some details, specifically, who the designers were, however, he didn't have any information on this. I would love to find out more about the era that has made so many of us poor!!! If I could get some leads I would even think about making a documentary on the subject.
  6. Great build - it looks quite industrial rather being built in plastic!
  7. I pre-ordered this a while back on BookDepository. Can't wait to get my hands on it (should be November release I believe).
  8. Awesome!!! I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but would there be a way you could make these buttons work with battery boxes/motors to control an actual train? I guess I see that as the last thing from the 12v era that you would need to replicate. Keep up the great work!
  9. I've supported the loco on Ideas, however, I guess what I meant when I originally said that a submission like this train might get up was that it would need to be something that was larger than life (you could read that as larger than minifig scale). I honestly think that the only chance that a train will get up on Lego Ideas is some kind of standalone "model" - maybe even larger than 10-wide! It would have to be some kind of impressive looking centre piece that could be displayed prominently in a person's home (like the Saturn V or the Caterham car) and people - who aren't train fans necessarily - might be impressed enough to want it for themselves. The Stephenson's Rocket reminds me of one of those mini steam engine sets you can buy that you can put on a desk (e.g. http://c0728562.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1112101112_HR.jpg) and it really stands out because of all of the brass and cogs, etc. People - specifically adults as I believe that they are a high purchaser of Lego Ideas sets - might want to build something like this for themselves. Just my two cents...
  10. I think two sets mirrored (i.e. like book ends) would look fantastic! And then you would have the flexibility to make the middle section - where the bench is - as long or short as you would like. Is there any idea on price yet?
  11. Fantastic progress! Keep up the great work!!!
  12. It looks so chunky! I love it!!! You have some genuine skill with designing locomotives. Keep up the great work!
  13. Aren't these the guys who ripped off 4DBrix designs? I know you probably got free samples to review, @Sariel, so it may make no difference to you, but I think this needs to be taken into account if you are going to post a review on EB.
  14. Surprisingly, I think something like this would get up on Ideas! Now, who wants to build it?!
  15. Yeah, I just checked out the 4dBrix website and saw what they are using. I really have to get my butt into gear and start ordering some of their items!
  16. So many details. Very impressive, Asper!!!
  17. Out of curiosity, what OS would you be running to get your software to work on a Pi?
  18. @Lowa, this would be my request for the thing you work on next. I think the electronics side is your company's strength. I didn't think of using a Raspberry Pi for this! I may need to investigate further as I don't like the idea of having to have a computer or tablet (with USB) in the same room as my train layout - if I don't have to. With a Raspberry Pi, I could hide it under my layout table.
  19. Are they a member of this forum? It's one thing to steal someone else's IP, it's another thing to do it via a good-natured forum like this! (If that is what has happened). Tom, a lot of us have followed your progress on here and have been amazed at the ideas that you have brought to life (and resurrected!), and I hope a dodgy act like this doesn't dissuade you too much from your ultimate goal.
  20. @Toastie, you could almost sell these!!! Well done with the ingenuity!!!
  21. If you come up with a working solution, it would be nice to see some kind of tutorial on how you did it. I think a lot of people would like to play with a non-Lego battery solution for narrow trains, but just don't know what they are doing (me included!) with electronics and gadgets.
  22. Insane amounts of design and engineering in that MOC!!! I think you've just unlocked the next level - please insert coins to continue!
  23. Stunning!!!
  24. I love this layout!!! My own layout will be size restricted as well (3 x 9, 32 x 32 baseplates), so I can appreciate the work that has gone into your layout. I am drawing a lot of inspiration with what you have done and I am going to head over to your Flickr page now to see the other photos!
