  1. It makes things WORSE actually, as it means you have to fit something at either end of the axle - nearly all custom designs rely on roller bearings and metal axles to ensure friction reduction and a strong design. Changing to a new system where we're reliant on securing the outside of the axle will limit most customisation.
  2. @Bartosz You might want to check BrickTracks' axles out... might need a dab of glue though.
  3. This thread is a really nice progress story!
  4. My passenger cars have the 1x3 curved slopes resting on tiles along the top of the body for their modular roof sections. They're attached to 4x10 plates with 2x10 plates mounted underneath this half to the main plate and half to the curved slope underside. Not had an issue with fragility yet!
  5. I'd personally say there's not quite enough room inside for the disc shaped magnet. The problem seems to be (IMHO) that there's an issue with coupler depth meaning it gets stuck where the reinforcement for the mounting points are.
  6. This isn't actually true. The magnets are free to move but can get stuck as there's not much room inside the coupler housing.
  7. Is that silver roof natural bricks or aftermarket? Either way, nice job - and I'm looking forward to the loco!
  8. NICE! So what's next? Rolling stock?
  9. if it IS a train, maybe they'll make a black Alpine region/German locomotive with red wheels to harken back to older sets. Maybe a motorisable 2-6-0 and 2 coaches?
  10. 62 pieces difference? about half of that could be accounted for by removing the smoke deflectors and bit in between the bogies on the tender. I suppose it might make more sense for them to change it to a 4-6-0 (akin to the Lone Ranger train) but upscale the detail/size to motorize it.
  11. @Aanchir That's actually a good point. 2014's range got a station as they didn't change the track packs but this year everything changed, and they've never released more then 4 SKUs per year for trains.
  12. Your best bet would be to add the set as a new wish list and colour swap the light grey to light bluish grey. Many people have done it and there's not much difference on it's own but it's quite noticeable when next to the original IMHO.
  13. Not knuckle couplers, not the R104 turnouts... not the missing curved track... R104 single/double slips?
  14. Seeing this post has inspired me to try for a HH600 or 660 at some point in the future...
  15. I'd like a wheel size between the tiny (which LEGO uses for road-rail equipment) and small (aka LEGO train motor size). Some bogies need one that size and I think the narrow gauge community would certainly like one in that area - the tiny wheels aren't 'big' enough for some narrow gauge appliances, whereas the 'regular' wheels are too big.
  16. 15470 (more instant ice cream than proper scoops)...
  17. Bear in mind that you could probably fit *both* diverging and parallel curves (if required) into one mould. It would be more likely that you would: 2 x stub end mould (as you'd also need the extra mould space for the mechanism pieces) 2 x toe end moulds 1 x diverge/parallel curve mould (if needed, if geometry fits into standard curves then could be used for other pieces).
  18. Maybe it's not R104 turnouts... but maybe R72?
  19. Nice model! Would the first dome be better finished with the ice cream cone piece rather than a 1x1 round tile?
  20. I never thought of using those crates for under frame detail! I've designed a reefer using a similar "many plates stacked vertically" but acquiring them all takes time...
  21. I always thought LEGO would be better off splitting trains into tracks and trains as separate purchases. 1 starter oval, a basic track pack, a turnout pack and then they can simply replace their train offerings every 4 years. It would mean the cost of the 'train sets' reduces enormously and makes them a lot more affordable, and at the same time means you don't have to buy another load of track just to get a train. Unfortunately that means stores stocking more SKUs and the entire experience 'not being in one box'...
  22. I wonder if it is the R104 special track element for parallel or diverging tracks after a switch?
  23. As in types - you will note most of the City range, including passenger trains, are more about everyday service. Only one passenger train is really geared towards express service, which was 2018.
  24. The whole problem with the expert line stems from the Emerald Night (only one coach & "won't do separate ones", poorly thought out mechanicals, etc. ) and the Horizon Express; which although one wasn't expensive, is only half a train, and the combined track and motorisation costs probably put a lot of AFOLs & non-AFOLs alike off. The Winter Village Train though? That seemed to have sold VERY well, as did the Maersk container train. So maybe LEGO needs to reduce the grandeur and produce something a bit more inline with the average train rather then the extreme.
