Very cool, as always! The big question that ravages my brain though is, how did you achieve that inside red outside blue effect? I'm absolutely puzzled.

as I've just mentioned in the other thread, I've picked this project up again, pics to follow within the next few days

cool stuff, and funny that you posted this as I've just started another try at the same ship!

Thanks Kai! I've actually used the waterfall technique before but not with snot rocks. But it's definetely better this way. @Garm: here's the pic you've asked for:

Captain, are you okay? Yeah, it's really hard to find any mocs of these kind of boats and the ones I found were not very good. So I had to build my own. The most difficult part to build was wheel. It's at least the 7th or 8th try of creating something decent looking.

well, Renato used to be one of the early explorers but was keen on marrying the King's daughter himself. However, after he got the news that the King had given his daughter to someone else, he was so mad that he went eploring again, especially after hearing the rumors of the fountain of youth ... thanks for the positive comments lads! I basically had to build something to get back into the mocing mode after stress at work had knocked me out for quite a few weeks. So don't take the story too serious ...

wow, this is awesome! I've always wanted to build this crane, but haven't managed to do so yet. So I'm glad you have. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Not sure why Western is only such a small niche areound here. I've always loved the theme but was in my dark ages when it first came out. Now that I have the nessecary pieces and figs I thought I might finally put together something bigger. I'd even propose a community build if there were more people to join. Alas, as it looks there actually aren't that many people who'd be willing to participate ... I'm actually referring to an old GDR comic series from the 1960s in which steamers were portrayed like this: As you can see here the rim isn't actually that high. I do admit though that this might not be a very accurate depiction of the real thing. As for a water effect, as I've mentioned somewhere else, I'll put this into a larger layout so in the final version there will have some sort of water effect.

Thanks for the welcome here guys! Gald you like what I've put together so far. But as I've said before, this is my first try at a train, so feel free to take apart what you don't like! Well, I'm using the 79111 connection between main body and frontrunner, so at a decent speed it does move through curves. However, I can't run it in 1st or 2nd gear and it also looses speed when I run it in higher gears. Wonder why that is ...
-
Well this is my first try at doing anything train, hope you will be gentle and not too harsh on a complete train noob ... Anyway, I've actually started the tender, a coach and a freight wagon as well, but so far the locomotive is the most advanced at this stage. Evenetually she'll be part of a larger Western layout and I hope that with your constructive criticism this will become a decent looking first experiment. So here's a first pic of the engine: Coach:

Those of you knowing me may wonder whether I've actually lost my mind for good now by starting yet another layout, but hey, I couldn't resist. Western is so much fun after all. So if any of my Belgian/Dutch cronies were willing to throw in some enthusiam themselves, I'd be than more than happy to collaborate with you guys. In the end this will probably end up becoming my biggest project though since laying a decent railway track consomes quite some space I suppose ... Anyway, this wil be the thread to collect all of it, since my western layout will feature several things that I will show in seperate threads all over EB. Feedback is of course more than appreciated. [a moc that might explain my current inactivity] it had been weeks if not months since Renato had seen any humans besides his remaining two companions out here in this crazy jungle. He was on the brink of mental breakdown not knowing what to do anymore. Once they must have had a reason why they had ventured that far into the unknown, but whatever it was, they had forgotten about it. Was it some treasure? gold? rubies? ancient civilizations? ... it didn't matter anymore. All they were stille hoping for was to leave this terrible place. Despite his mental weakness, Renato was still in a somewhat decent physical state. This was partially due to his ability to always finde something to eat for himself and his companions. But mostly his every day bathing and showering under waterfalls was what kept him clean and healthy. But how much longer would they be able to endure all of this? The jungle was definetely not the place that gave you much time once you had lost your mind ...

Ahhh, the Master has struck again! Everything two masted have actually been my favourite ships ever snince I got into ships as a ten year old. It'd be a burden to mention everything I like about this typing on a tablet, so I'll just say that I love it and that I'm looking forward to see her sailing alongside my schooner at the BMA!

Great smithery! It really reminds me a lot of this one: which I actually consider the best 10 € set TLG has even made! (I actually bought five of themj)

In the Name of the New Mayor of Pontelli
kabel replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely setting and house and I really like how you incorporated that cumbersome baseplate into your build. However, I think you could have given those white walls a little more structure as I feel it's suffering a little from something us castle builders call the "grey wall syndrome".- 9 replies

The house and the idea of the house are really great in itself and so is how you carried it out. However, I wondered if the windows and the tan tiles might not give this build to much of a modern touch.
-
Well, first of all, thanks for the answer. However, as I've said before I don't really care anymore. But maybe if the rest of the Eslandola leadership wanted to use the ship for the next trade run, I'd be more than happy to give away all! of my licenses to the general good of Eslandola. You guys may wonder what the hell is happening in this dude's head, but actually the answer is rather simple: I'm just not a very competitive guy, never been, and all these dynamics of an online game with all the harsh words, not the ones that are good natured inter- empire trash talk but rather the "I'm pissed off because you got more than me" ones really serve to discourage me from participating in BoBs. You know, as a high school teacher I have to listen to this same megablocks the entire day and I'm not willing to endure this during my freetime. So asking a "court" to give my moc a certain permission just seemed absolutely absurd to me in hindsight. And it really annoyed me that, instead of talking about my moc, people started to dispute my proposed license, WTF? Furthermore, when I then heard, through all those zillion PM sub discussions, that people of a certain empire were taking my story telling as some sinister attack upon their their beloved empire, instead of seeing the funny twists in the story that had nothing to do with anyone ecept for my Eslandolan trade lord mates, I was even more appelled by the dynamics of this game. I suppose some people even concieved me as such an evil bastard that they didn't comment on the moc at all anymore. (why is that the rest of the world always claims that germans are completely ingnorant to the concept of humor?) Anyway, to make a long story shot, I was about to quit BoBs for the same reasons I had quit AG , which is a preference of strategy over moc quality and humor! However, after having spend a lot of money for bricks I wouldn't have bought if it hadn't been for BoBs, I realized I just had to quit what caused my negative feelings towards BoBs (the mrca) and yet remain a participant of this game. So, I hope you guys get my point and all have a wonderful evening! Cheers!

her shape is actually really cool. However, what's happened to the rigging?

Fun story, fun build! One thing though, I've actually tried the same wall technique before, and I think it works better with 1*4s instead of 1*2s as it leaves less gaps. Or you maybe stick some paper to the back of it as light shining through the slits is kinda annoying.

Some of the wip pics we saw Flickr would be cool!

I suppose I could still extend the topmasts without undoing too much of the rigging. I just need a more stable construction for it ... -
wow, I didn't know that the filters don't work for staff, that's some pretty awesome shit ...
