Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
kabel replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
I've actually started building mocs just for my kids to play with ... so for example I build a whole bunch of houses to be added to the LR Colby City layout. Nothing really fancy, but the kids and my wife love it. That way we don't argue over bricks ... However, I think I made Thorshaven sturdy enough to travel with so it's also sturdy enough for the kids to play with. And, they only get to play with it on special occasions. -
What an awesome idea! - Mitgardia, someone who needs help!

Funny, I too blame my sons for being addicted to Lego myself. So the only way to stand this thing is to have my sons play with my mocs ... -

Funny, I never play video games. But I love dwarves and civil disobedience (Thoreau) and that's how I came up with the mining bros. -
Haha, watch out for them Mitgardian kids ya beasts!

Hey there Slegengr, - your army is basically would you would like it to look like. The strict rules of uniformity we had in the beginning are not as strict anymore. - as for landscapes, Northern Kaliphlin, Avalonia and Southern Mitagardia are all basically located in the Temperate Zone. So there actually is a lot of crossover. So there are lots of forests and desolate places in Mitgardia and decidious forests in Kaliphlin. However, Mitgardia wouldn't have any jungle zone and no desert either, but it has temperate rain forests along its Western coast. - Nocturnus is basicly the darker side of GoH. So if you don't feel comfy with all the supernatural events and villains there, you shouldn't build there. However, they do have the least builders. All other three guilds are pretty much equal in terms of participation. Hope this helps making a decision. Personally I would like to see you in Mitgardia, but that's a personal mission ...

Great tower! I really like how you are developing your own destinctive style with those dark tan pieces!

It's cool scene. I like it. Wonder why the dwarves are still living in Nocturnus though, guess it's all about that gold in these tunnels ... As for your snot rock, one of the keys to make it look smoother is to have less variation in profile. So when you build the next layer, you try to follow the pattern of the one below and try to offset it by no more than one or two plates.

This is a really great ship. It shows nicely how you progress in your building skills. And a lot of cool details like the cannons. I'm not 100% convinced of the color sceme, but I guess that that's a matter of taste

The bridge and the water look extremely good. Good job on the photos too. That said, I really like the subject you have picked here and it's an excellent proof that we don't need TLG to create new themes for us. All it takes is the figs!

@: Wildspeaker: on the first page of the History forum you can see a link to a whole bunch of tutorials. Use these for a start or just scroll down these 75 of GoH madness and look at other mocs for inspiration. -
Cool rocks Manx! You should stick to one color per layer though, mixing colors that way creates a really artificial effect. Better, when using dark or light bley try to stick to one color and mix it with vegetation!

@Behemoth: you know, in all seriousness, I'm just really tired of your "can I build this, can I build that" and then just do what you want to do anyways. That, and your constant refusal to read into the lore of GoH. There are now some 75 pages containing hundreds of mocs and all it takes is a little scrolling and reading. You instead choose to troll this forum and annoy the heck out of its members, so that several members have already decided to slow down or even consider to quit their engagement with this project. I just wish you'd be more receptive to the advice and criticism you are given. I know I'm sometimes a little hard to deal with. Guess that's gotta have to do with me being annoyed by your kind everyday at work. However, after being stepped on their toes other young members that I had conflicts with eventually adapted to the rules and are now valued members. Just ask, for instance, TheUtilityBelt or Scaevola about it! Finally, I know that I speak of a majority of GoH members when I say that I wish that you wouldn't consider yourself the center of the universe. Others are simply more polite than me and choose to tell you things in a much nicer manner. Alas, you don't seem to understand the frustration that's hidden even in those nice words. As for myself, this is the last time I'm actually trying to get something across to you in a civilized way. If you don't adapt, I will henceforth resort to even darker sarcasm, so that at least I can have some fun with this really akward situation.

This is really great and I think it's one of the best Nocturnus mocs that has been posted so far! Great building techniques and awesome photo effects!

Behemoth, your are showing pics of Greece and Spain. In the Kali thread it says Mediterranean influences. Now here's my Geography Lesson for you today ( rolls the drum) tahtah: Surprise, surprise - Greece and Spain are both located at the Mediterranean Sea! See what I'm pointing at? (duh)

Man, if I could only take pictures like you ... I doubt there is anything else that needs to be added, so basicly everything is cool and it's a shame I can't go to Denmark this weekend!

@Behemoth: Pal, if I was your Geography teacher I'd have you in detention with an Atlas in your hands every single day! -
Thanks for the positive feedback mates! This moc was eventually the logical outcome of my snot rock tutorial. I just wanted to try things in different colors and I'm really happy it turned out so well that some of you even deem it realistic!

Well thanks for telling me, I hand't known that before. Guess we wouldn't simplify things like that in German academic Geology, which is to say that I have no clue wether our field geologists wouldn't do so either. Anyway, it makes sense to me though
