I quite like the overall appearance, I want to rebuild my old modular bank in a much larger scale as I thought my ideas would take up alot more space, well done for TLG for fitting all that is necessary into such a small space. I'm particularly happy with the sand green windows which will come in very handy for me. Once I saw that arch piece in tan on the Friends hotel I thought it was inevitable it would be used in a modular. A couple of new hairpieces always pleases me! I don't have any issue with the 'money laundering' story idea. As there is enough detail on the ground floor and roofline to humor me.

Excellent RR. I've tried many times to get realistic shaping but never been as successful as this. Well done!

Superb design and execution. I really like this style of architecture, the roof and chimney work reminds me of some excellent examples from the 1960's despite its obvious modern appearance. Well done!

Thanks Commander Red Hat, I felt the model needed a little more colour and my original attempt was without a wall and a much larger sign than the one on the left but it was difficult to stabilize at height. There's several example of gas stations of this era having a similar arrangement with a Logo on the wall, im guessing it was to attract passing motorists! Thanks LEGO Train 12 Volts and L@go! Cheers ilikeboomerang1, I would have loved to do octan branding and it crossed my mind when I started but I couldn't source the large arches in red and I don't think they make them in green yet so I went for my chosen style but using black and brown. It probably would have looked well cool in all red if I had the pieces! Thanks spzero and Kai NRG

Thank you Gongoro73 and TenorPenny! Thanks peedeejay and dr_spock, the use of the curved window on its side isn't exactly new as it was used in the town plan 10184, however I never liked how it sat on top of a 1x4x4 quarter macaroni piece in that gas station. Only when I managed to get some of the larger arch bricks I saw I could get a much smoother effect, unfortunately it meant making the rest of the model on it's side to make it a smooth transition everywhere! Cheers Nemo57, Graham Gidman, MontyPython and RogerSmith. Thanks deraven, the Typeface is inspired by 'GULF' gas stations from that era. Thanks dr_sarcophagus! I look forward to seeing it! Thanks Peppermint_M and Rail Co! Cheers Sir Stig and sens1992, I wouldn't call myself an expert car builder by any means so realism and scale probably goes out of the window, I was prepared to go without a vehicle but then thought its a gas station I've got to have a vehicle! The pumps were a little fiddly to make, I would of liked to have made them different colours, especially in red but didn't have the window piece to complete the look I wanted, but I am happy with the way they turned out in the end! Thanks Kristel, always flattering to be blogged. Originally I never intended to use brown as a trim colour, it turned out it was one the only colour I could get as well as black and white from the Lego online store. Most of the other colours were a bit pricey on BL. Cheers Hoexbroe, how rude of me not to mention your fine example of a gas station from Royville, I've seen it on MOCpages years ago but wasn't sure if you posted it in here. Thanks flikebluck! Thanks very much ER0L, sadly not much interest in aestetic when designing gas stations thesedays, well at least in the UK from what I've seen!

Hello everyone! My latest build is finally complete after taking up most of my desk space for the last few months. It's called Grand Prix Auto Services. A Gas station/Garage which is of a streamlined style from around the 1930's/1940's USA. I struggled to build a car from that time with what bricks I have so went for a more late 50's look with the car and scooter. I've seen some great examples by fellow EB members L@GO and ER0L but felt with so many varied styles out there and not too many versions in Lego there was room for one more! Mostly I wanted to use some of the curved window pieces I had purchased some time ago and this was the perfect opportunity. Most of the model is built sideways with only a little vertical building in places. It's therefore a little less stable in certain sections. Anyway, enough waffle and on with the pics; Any feedback, comments or questions welcomed!

What a unique and interesting idea. I like the carrot and the use of those windscreens on the doorway gives a pretty cool texture, not sure I've seen that before. Well done!

Interesting choice of size, the rooftop looks well finished considering its an odd number. I like the colour scheme on the facade. Well done!

Really nice facade, has a typical late 20's early 30's feel. I like the colour combination of the ground floor windows and doorway!

This is such a cool concept, maybe a bit annoying if you work nightshift though! Looks great from the outside, I particularly like the top floor interior and the balcony!

Thank you very much! Thanks! I'm guessing they were not that blue when the canal's were in heavy use! Since I've not seen a canal for as long as I can remember and they aren't any where I live I can't tell you what they look like nowadays, I'm more familiar with pubs!

Thanks for all the kind comments, I did have some reservations about the shaping/colour palette of the boat and the brick built tree! Totally get the comment about the water Paxila And The Bricks, it probably does look rough, but it's the closest colour to 'blue' water that's been available at my local PAB wall so I stocked up that day and are looking for ways to use them! Tiles would probably look better, I wish I had enough! I wish I had room for more Lego Back to the brick!

Nice work again Kristel, the layout at Brickworld looks great. As usual I really like the offsetting work on the ground floor and like the choice of the open stud bricks underneath the windows. Well done!

Hi everyone, here is my latest MOC The Brick and Stud Tavern which I've been working on for the last couple of months, a couple of bricklink orders slowed things down a little. I've wanted to do a pub for a while now and wanted to include more scene's with water so it seemed a good idea to combine the two. I had to scale it down from the quayside/fishing port I had in mind originally (Perhaps that will wait for another day), so a small river or canal seemed the obvious choice. This is inspired by canals seen in the UK, maybe I'll do a dutch canal someday I took ideas from - The Riverbank cottage - a previous MOC of mine which I made last year. I spent quite a bit of time perfecting the windows trying to get the right proportions on the lintels and framing without leaving unsightly gaps. The canal boat/narrowboat was something I had in mind to make the water look a little more interesting and went through several revisions before settling with this one. I found it difficult to get a sharp point on the front of the boat and eventually settled for a simpler rounded shape, perhaps not as realistic but nevermind! Sadly no interior this time round as I was mainly focused on landscaping. Anyway on with the pics, there are only 4 on this occasion; If you'd rather view them on flickr the link is here https://www.flickr.c...s/52656812@N04/ Here's hoping for a new camera for my birthday this year! Any thoughts or comments welcomed! Cheers

I don't know more much about the ninjago theme but I do like this set from an architectural point of view. It's great to see something not totally battle orientated.

Great job! I particularly like the living room especially the use of the hat as a plant plot and the lampshade. The laundry is also an excellent scene!

I had never heard of this style before now, perhaps I'm ignorant here, I can see its very bright and charming, it would lend itself very well to Lego. I hope to make something with water in the near future with water so maybe I'll take inspiration from this! Thanks! I wish I had more nougat I definitely could have used more in this model, it's a very appropriate colour for southern Europe build. To be honest the pics I took of the alleyway were perhaps a little dark and didn't really show it in any great detail, photographing it from the back of the buildings would show a number or sins and general building laziness which was another reason for not including them. In most cases my buildings are only taken apart when I REALLY need the pieces for something else, but I don't have a massive collection of bricks so I'll probably only get a couple of buildings on the shelf before something has to come apart. Hi, thank you very much. I don't design using design software unfortunately so I couldn't provide you with any instructions. What I would say is that I did make this in 3 sections which are attached by technic pins. The two buildings at the back are two joined 16x32 baseplates. The blue building is on two baseplates (16x32 + 16x8 joined together). The piazza is made up of a mixture of other plates a bit difficult to describe. I would say that most of this scene is normal stacked bricks and not sideways building of anything particularly unstable. If you look at the 2x2 dark bley tiles you should be able to work out the measurements of everything. The windows are offset in between a two-brick thick wall in every building. I did think about doing interiors and prepped for them but it wasn't really worth it in the end due to a lack of space. Maybe this will be of some help! Thanks so much to everyone for so fantastic comments, I read them all! I am always happy to answer any questions of the construction. Cheers!

Thanks for all the kind comments, it's great people can find something recognizable whom have seen some European Piazza's and even if not in person. Although I chose the name Piazza I suppose it could of been the French 'Place', I have visited both Rome and Nice and they were great inspirations, although I have to admit doing a little more online research and being rather fond of Prague for its style as well. As soon as I could get a hold of some of the 'cool yellow' in a decent quantity it was definitely a colour I wanted to include, the blue is 'Medium blue'. The most fun I had was making a buzzing scene on the square itself and I've been waiting years to find a reason to include the 'Atlantis temple statue' minifigure in a MOC! Thanks again!

Hello fellow EB members. My latest creation Piazza Maria is a little closer to home than my last, a town square with influences from several different parts of Europe. There is a deli, an ice cream parlour and a furniture shop around the main square with a market with outside seating to create some hustle and bustle! I only chose to furnish the interior's on the ground floors in all 3 buildings as there is very little depth to the buildings to accommodate a lot of apartment furniture like beds and such. I merely wanted window decoration where possible to show the buildings purpose. Anyway on with the pics, there's only 7 so they are all in here, apologies for editing of the last two, I tried to erase out some brightly coloured plates underneath so it looks a little scruffy! If you wish to view them in flickr you can on the link here: https://www.flickr.c...s/52656812@N04/ Any comments welcome! Cheers

Thank you very much, it's an especially great compliment from a resident! Also thanks again to everyone for all the kind words, I read them all, a word of thanks to the admins for the Front page!

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments, sorry I can't respond to them all! What I will say for a MOC as as 'quick and experimental' interim project whilst waiting for a delivery of bricks, the response has been so kind. It took some learning to love, especially after it falling on the floor several times during construction as the exterior is not the most stable. Perhaps one day I'll get to south beach to see for myself all the great buildings there, I'm pretty sure google streetview doesn't do it justice!
-
Hi everyone, My latest moc is called The Ocean restaurant and is inspired by Miami's south beach area. I felt some of my ealiest attempts on the style didn't do it justice. I thought a 1 storey building wouldn't be as time-consuming as some of my more recent buildings much larger in size which would allow me to concentrate more on the details and refinement. The exterior was done first and I wasn't originally going to do an interior but was persuaded to and I'm pleased I did as it turned out to be pretty fun designing. Anyway on with the pics - There's only 5 this time so i'll put them all in here These are all the pictures from this MOC, if you'd prefer to view them at flickr go here: https://www.flickr.c...s/52656812@N04/ Comments welcome!

Excellent. I admire how often you've managed to use that catapult piece. Don't think I've ever found a use the ones I've got. Great work!
-
Nice work! I am a fan of open backed buildings. Makes it so much easier to capture interior details slightly less floor reinforcement to worry about! Colours work well together with the detective office especially.
