  1. Could someone please change this topic title to [The Frozen Beyond, Cat. B] Ice Spiders ? Thank you in advance!
  2. Very nice scene! I too built a Lego nativity scene this year (I also posted it quite recently). I plan on rebuilding it every year, so it's nice to see another one for some other good ideas for next year's! And by the way, welcome to Eurobricks!
  3. Avalonia supports various flora and fauna throughout its vast landscapes. There are some nomads that wander through Avalonia surviving from their knowledge of the land. While Nocturnus generally gets most of the credit when it comes to deadly plants, (insert tired statement about man-eating-pumpkins) but Avalonia's vast variety of plants include several that are just as dangerous. One such deadly plant is the Fire Shrub. The shrub grows several flowers, whose pistil is shaped like a flame. The flowers' oily nectar is capable of giving severe burns, and can cause combustion of many materials after prolonged exposure. When the nomad known as Toric heard about the Algus invasion, and the rumor that they had a weakness to fire, he decided to set out to harvest some Fire Shrub, should he run into any Algus. As he found a shrub, he saw the Algus approaching. Toric plucked one of the flowers and rubbed it over his blade with his enchanted gardening gloves as his watched the Algus approach. As they approached he watched the green grass die beneath them as they walked, and ice formed on the ground where they had stepped. Snowflakes fell slowly all around as the first Algus approached. Toric cut the first Algus down with a flurry of quick strikes. As the Algus fell to the ground, the ice that had formed at his feet quickly melted before the corpse burst into flames. The Algus behind him hesitated, and Toric used that moment to strike at three more Algus who all fell to the ground in flames as the rest of the Algus fled. Toric picked the remaining flowers from the shrub and some other shrubs in the area before making his way to Osgard to inform the people of his discovery.
  4. And the Others smelled the hot blood in him and came silent on his trail, stalking him with packs of pale white spiders big as hounds. Well, I've certainly got a lot of respect for all of you that can make brick built creatures look as nice as they do. I tried around with a few different ideas, but ultimately decided to still with the ice spiders, given the Algus' inspirational source. Anyway, C&C always welcome. Enjoy! EDIT: Could someone please change the topic title to: [The Frozen Beyond, Cat. B] Ice Spiders I got a little distracted in the middle of positing this!
  5. Thanks all for the feedback. If I get the time I may try to retake pictures to show it a little better. However, basically what you can see of the "ship" is really all there is. There are no decks, and no other side. This was just something I built to try out a hull building technique, and I was quite pleased with how it looked, but I didn't have enough pieces to use the technique for two sides. At some point I'll be ordering more of the pieces for the technique and try to develop it some more, and I'm hoping to build a full ship at that point. I'll also take the feedback on sails into consideration. I really wanted to avoid custom sails and rigging, but I might not be able to (though I imagine the rigging will be very minimalistic).
  6. The buildings look great as always. You really have a way of making beautiful houses look simple, although they're much more complex than they look. Great job.
  7. The stories sounding good so far. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
  8. Welcome, Jayce Ke'ter, great looking character intro! I look forward to seeing more about Alaveria!
  9. I don't know if I'll be eligible this moth already or if I have to wait until next month, but I'd like to participate.
  10. I'm really liking that design. Very clean and simple and very good looking. Great work!
  11. Not much of a story for this ship yet, but I may add one later. I'd like to license this as a Class 2 WR, and tried to design it like a sloop, which seemed to fit in the class. Could someone please let me know if it fits this class? Anyway, I'm not much for rigging and making sails yet, so I printed these from the Sail Library in the Master Index here. This was a little hard, being a purist, but I decided if I kept them to scale as the actual Lego sails, I could live with it. I know this isn't quite the right sail setup for a Sloop, but it was close enough for me, since I wanted to only use sails made by Lego. Also, for the first time I used a darker background to avoid the sails blending into a white background. Unfortunately, the dark blue blended too much with the black base, so I just GIMPed it. This was my first ship without a prefabricated hull, and while the general shape in front and back could use some work, I was pretty pleased with it. It's not easy to see in the pictures, but the hull actually has some decent curves to it, so I'll experiment a little more with the technique in the future. Anyway, let me know what you think!
  12. Beautiful color scheme and all around design here. Everything looks great, especially the leaving kaliphlin for Avalonia part! However, as Gideon said, I think you'll have to wait until book 3 for the change to be official.
  13. Hadrian's Pass is the only path leading from Mitgardia into Oros big enough for an army to march on. The Farwinds of Oros maintain a small keep in the middle of the pass a few miles south of the Mitgardian border. The keep stands in the center of the road, and when barricades are in place, the mountain pass is funneled down to the very small door to the keep. For an army to enter Oros from Mitgardia, they need to take the keep. When rumors of the Algus reached Oros, the keep was fortified and prepared for an invasion. Everyone had been informed of the effectiveness the Fire Shrub had on the Algus, so several rangers were sent out to carefully gather as much of the plant as possible. The flowers were thrown together into a large pot and ground into a mush. Hundreds of arrows were dipped in the mush to coat them with the substance. The substance was especially potent and burst each Algus into flames as they marched through the pass attempting to enter Avalonia. This worked so effectively, the only casualty inside the keep was one archer that mishandled an arrow and lit himself on fire. Thankfully, the other archers standing by were prepared for such an event, and were able to put him out with several barrels of water. He suffered some major burns, but survived.
  14. Here's the Nativity Scene I built this year. It's not a completely accurate classical representation, but all things considered I was pleased with how it turned out, although the ground could use a bit more work. Anyway, let me know what you think! Thanks for looking!
  15. Hi! I built this back in November for St. Martin's Day, but haven't had a good chance to take any pictures. I decided it was time to take it apart, and wanted to take some pictures before I did. However, I still don't have a very good photography set up for in the winter, so I apologize for the dark and grainy pictures, but here you go! The most commonly told story of St. Martin was when he was a Roman soldier, saw a beggar and cut his cloak in two to give to the man for warmth. I myself am not Catholic, so I'm not extremely familiar with Saint Martin, so if anyone else is unfamiliar, I will just post a link for you to read. https://en.wikipedia...Martin_of_Tours Thanks for looking!
  16. +1 to Wardancer +1 to Shakar Thank you both for great communication and quick shipping!
  17. +1 to fred67. Finally got a chance to build it, thanks again!
  18. Found it for you here.
  19. This is what I was referring to. Still unsure if it would qualify.
  20. Another questions for the powers that be, does my character intro build qualify for the first challenge? It shows him as the Scallawag Extraordinaire that he is! Or is something more nautical desired?
  21. Captain William Quick Quick was once a member of the Corrington Navy, but once New Terra was discovered, he knew there was much more potential for success out on his own. Being very persuasive, Quick plotted the overthrow and murder of his ship's Captain and officers. Taking the ship as his own, he made his way for Bastion with the remaining members of the ship's crew. Since his arrival he has made a name for himself as somewhat of a loose cannon, due to being fairly unpredictable. He often disappears for months on end, during which it is rumored that he spends time with one or several of his many wives. Although he claims he has several dozen wives, one of which being a mermaid, most of his crew members expect this to be exaggerated. Quick, who often sends his vessels out under his most trusted men, has been known to disguise himself and sign on as a crew member, unbeknownst to the rest of the crew. Quick with a few of his wives bathing in a tub of jewels More of Quick's backstory will come later. Hopefully everything so far is acceptable for a Sea Rat.
  22. Ah, that makes sense now, thanks. And thanks to you and Ska for answering my other questions. Sounds like I will try the EGS, although I fully expect to do it incorrectly!
  23. I understood WR, which is on the left of the table, but the column W at the top is what I was referring to. It's among the ©, ($), (H), (OP), etc.
  24. I have a quick question, though I suspect I will have plenty more come up as I continue to read everything. I don't plan on participating too often--I would like to, but realistically I don't see it happening. Does it make sense for someone to participate in the EGS if they don't participate monthly? Or would it be better to not participate in the EGS? If you don't participate, can you later decide you'd like to participate? If you do participate can you later decide not to? What does the W in the ship list stand for? Each ship is given either a Y or an N, but I couldn't see what it stands for.
