Hi all, I started this MOC quite a while ago, and finished it a while ago as well. I really had to rush finishing it to make a deadline for the Summer Joust, as one of Team Avalonia's members was unable to participate, so there are a few features I'm not completely satsified with. I had planned to fix these at some point and take nicer, unrushed pictures, but a ridiculously busy schedule has pushed it too far back. Since my son has now played with this MOC and disassembled it as he is known to do, I figured I should just post the pictures as they are, since I can't do much to change them. Anyway, C&C is appreciated as always. I hope you enjoy! Edit: A short story will be added later about the troops marching towards Nocturnus to aid those in need.

Guilds of Historica New Member Guide
MiloNelsiano replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Same here. I haven't seen very many of those tags really, it doesn't seem like they worked for most members. -
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that al esterbrook was the island to the south west. I think you've already got it on your map.
-
Another idea I had but forgot about, you could include the Avalonian task 4 settlements for the map, meaning only Se torments recognized as official settlements get put on the map. That way, members have to go through a little bit more before the settlement is on the map. Otherwise, you may have a lot of people joining, wanting their settlement included in the map, and then disappearing, which could turn into a lot more work for you or whoever is updating the map.

Looks like a great first attempt! As Kai said, I'd try contacting those members who have done the current maps. Nocturnus and Mitgardia also recently updated their maps, though I don't remember off the top of my head who did them. Another thing I thought of, would be to include varlyrio, as MOCs have been done, and can continue to be done there. However, rather than having it placed where it should go to scale, maybe it'd be best to have it boxed in and closer to the rest of the map, the way Alaska and Hawaii are represented on maps of the US, if you know what I mean. The tricky part here is I don't remember ever seeing a map of Varlyrio before. The creator (MikeyB) may be able to help with that.

Thanks guys! Thanks, Gideon! You might be right, the mud might have looked better with a little texturing. That's a good idea, not sure why I didn't think of it, as I was really trying to figure out something to go in the somewhat plain middle section of the stone wall.

I did not know that. Thanks for that! Buy the magazine! I had hoped to get a preview of it before purchasing as well, but wasn't able to find anything, though there is a page from it here in the Guilds Weekly, its the last post of the previous page.

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
MiloNelsiano replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Welcome! The map doesn't get updated instantly. It takes Rogue a while to update it sometimes. Also, as I understand it, the large island to the northwest is off limits, but anything else should be fair game. It doesn't hurt to take a look back a few pages to see where others have claimed land but haven't been added to the official map yet. -
Well I certainly don't want to start any debates on the quality of publications. Hispabricks, Bricks, or anything else, I think they're interesting, but too expensive to subscribe to them year round (for me anyway). Really, the only reason I bought this issue of Bricks was because of the GoH article. If Hispabricks does a GoH article I would definitely buy it as well. I agree, it was really awesome because it really spread some information on GoH in a great way. Despite some false Information and some glaring typos and editorial mistakes, it still did what it was supposed to, and will hopefully bring in some new members.

Thanks SK and Kayne, that was a fun read. Will we get to read more of these in the future? It really reminded me of Brick Magazines article about GoH in their last issue--i would recommend anyone to take a look if they haven't already, it was really neat to see. However, there seemed to be some mistakes in that article. The two that bothered me the most were when it said Kaliphlin's colors are orange and blue, and that yellow colored minifigures are required. Anyone else read the article?

I like this quite a bit! I myself have been considering some western themed builds, and a steam ship is one I've been thinking about. Specifically, the Far West, as my great great great grandfather was a crew member of that ship. Looking forward to your other western builds. The few you've posted so far look great!

Piazza Municipiale, the Trifork, Avalonia
MiloNelsiano replied to Bregir's topic in Guilds of Historica
Amazing build, Bregir. Great stuff all around. I really like some of the features you used (those coconut trees are too perfect). However, if I were to nit pick, I'd say some of the architecture seems a little too modern--specifically all the square windows in the three buildings on the left end. But really, each building looks great on its own, and all together this is a fantastic build, and I really can't wait for your stories to continue!- 22 replies

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
MiloNelsiano replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
The civil wars haven't been added to the history yet. Each of the main challenges in book 2 has revolved around a civil war within each guild. -
Wow, very nice! It is a little brightly colored, but still looks great. Thank you!

If you're offering, go ahead and give mine a try. If you're looking for inspiration, you can follow my character's story here.

Really fantastic work. Everything from the landscaping and vegetation to the stone work looks absolutely fantastic. My favorite is the woodwork, you really found a great solution for the roof of the round towers. Truly great work!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
MiloNelsiano replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
They're reall just for fun, there's actually no obligation to complete the tasks, they're just good ideas for people that arent sure what they should build. It also really helps to "flesh out" your realm within Avalonia. Also, you don't need to do them in order at all. You can do task 5 next if you want. Your task 5 build can even be used within task 4 for the military category (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). There's really nothing obligatory in GoH except posting your sigfig. -

Great looking fig, nice to have you here in Avalonia! Just highlight a section of land using the map and a photo editing program. Then you name it, and it's yours! -
As I said earlier, this looks great, definitely one of my favorites from you. However, as to your poem, Avalonia still IS the strongest guild!

Thanks! I had originally planned to do the mud hole as you suggest, but I didn't have enough dark tan pieces to make the ground one more plate in depth. I tried to make up for this using the grass to hide the border a bit. I brick linked the torso, so I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it's from Ewok village Leia.

I know of a place in Germany! At steindrucker.com you can custom print words or pictures on Lego pieces. There are probably similar services in other countries, but I don't know any of them. A Google search of Lego tile printing could yield some results.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked it!

While it's possible I missed something, I don't think my ship Mardiers Revenge is sunk. It just had a Golden Voyage, so I don't think it's gone! -

1. I am still around, I visit daily to look at new builds and read any new content, though I unfortunately find little time to comment on other builds (something I'd like to do more of). 2. I have another Osric Farwind story in the works, but think I'll hold off on it for now, and wait until after the final challenge and the launch of book 3. I also just finished my latest project, and haven't started a new one yet, but I'll likely start something this week--either another Task 4 build, or maybe I'll take on task 7. 3. My flickr page is where all of my work is: https://www.flickr.com/photos/97581016@N03/ 4. I joined after challenge 2, so have participated in challenge 3 and challenge 4. I have completed tasks 1, 2, and 5, and am continuing to work on task 4, in which my settlement is pending the status of Port Town. I'm not sure if you're looking for mini challenges as well, but I also entered the Frozen Beyond (A B and C) and Historica Husbandry minichallenge, which I won, earning me the title of Steward of Historica. -
[MOC] A guest at Goblin's getaway
MiloNelsiano replied to AnalogPanda's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I remember the frustrations I had with a small brick collection--it can be pretty difficult. I'll give some feedback, but obviously you might not be able to use the advice because of your collection size. You used some great looking techniques, the bridge in particular looks good, as does the roof. The rocks leading into the water also look nice and fairly natural. The figure posing looks nice and dynamic. Some of the landscaping looks nice, but I think thre are too many different colors on the ground--particularly the dark red and the lime green on opposite sides of the path seem like a very strong contrast. Another thing (which is something I'm also still working on) is that it seems very blocky in places. A few ways to help with that would be to have an irregularly shaped base, or attach the house at an angle. The dark red wedge shape pieces also do a nice job of making it look less blocky when compared to the lime green for example. Hopefully that helps a bit, but I'm sure a lot was already somewhat obvious and couldn't be helped due to your brick collection. Keep at it, this is a great start with some very nice techniques, and I'd love to see what you can do with more bricks! One last bit of advice, I remember when I had a very limited collection, it forced me to get more creative with the pieces I did have, which helped me to make nice little details, even though the quality of the MOC as a whole was a lot lower than I wanted. You could try focusing on that for now as well.
