  1. I cant tell you how many ideas i have gotten from Brickshelf. Thats my go to problem solver
  2. That is actually i good idea, Im going to try this out
  3. I have built larger things, but im not sure how much they weighed
  4. I started a concept thread, just to see what people thought. Only one actual crane was mentioned that has 12 axles, but im only going to get ideas from it, not base my build completely from it Im thinking the regular steering center around the 2 middle axles, and crab (including steering the middle) The problem with doing the crab steering is that all the axles need the same turning radius, and if im doing the regular steering all the axles will have different radii.
  5. Pivot as in turn table, or lifting the boom pivot?
  6. Full RC, yes As for the inspiration, yes it will be that huge. Im hoping i can keep the boom on my crane.
  7. when you say superstructure, which structure are you talking about, the boom or the trailer itself, or something else? The color scheme is going to change to match the actual crane, this was a quick build one night.
  8. Hey guys, this is not a WIP topic, not yet I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on this crane concept. I understand this build is going to be freakin crazy big, but thats the point But anyway, i am wondering if anyone has build ideas. As of right now i just have a bunch of sketches of what i want to do. Here is what im thinking; 5 front steering, 5 rear steer and 2 middle straight. Those 2 middle will be powered along with 4 steering axles. X outriggers over the rear steering axles, possibly adding another X type outrigger in the front of the crane I have to figure out how i can incorporate multiple steering modes as well. Any thoughts and concerns would be awesome, nothing talking me out of this
  9. I was just going to say that. If the train is running on tracks, their is no need for a steering system.
  10. Hey guys, it has been a while since i posted an update, but it has been a crazy week at college, so i made up my mind with what i am doing. Here is a "small" update on the GSK55 Trailer Crane. Here is a WIP pic: As you can see I built a shrink machine... Here is a picture of just the trailer with the outriggers down Boom up Boom out And.. size comparison haha Btw this is the first model that i have only needed one large LA for. I have never built this small, so as always comments are welcomed. Still to come; counterweight, string and make it look "fuller"
  11. it doesn't bother me, i am not building the set so ill just keep the instructions and stickers sealed
  12. Not to get off topic, but i got my 42009 in the mail today. The box was opened, but no missing parts, im fine with that. But i noticed that the instructions are all in one book, how long has it been like that, because i have only even gotten the Volvo Loader's instructions like that before.
  13. I had the same thing happened to me, it must've been something in the gearbox because I rebuilt it and then it worked Perfectly.
  14. I disagree, this is a crane contest. You can build any type of crane, big or small. All types of cranes have their problems while building. It should be one contest with one winner
  15. Before I got 42030, I calculated it out. If u would buy just the PF stuff it would be a little more than half the cost of the set, so it is worth getting the set over just the PF
  16. In my option, if your looking for a large number of parts; 42009 is the way to go. If you looking for a large amount of PF;then 42030 is the way to go
  17. I was at the Grand Canyon this summer,I know exactly what you mean Jim. I'm glad you had a great time
  18. Im going to be changing the angles with gearing down the servo, but no suspension for any of the axles.
  19. I quick looked at the axle thread and didn't see anything. Is their a steering driven axle using the 13L gear rack?? I'm afraid that 2 drove axles won't be enough, so I'll power a few of the steering axles.
  20. So what im getting from all this, is that it would be crazy to build such a huge crane, well that makes me want to build it even more I have another 42009 on the way from amazon so i will hvae the number of wheels i need along with more parts (because this thing will be using them all haha
  21. I just ordered another 42009, it has a great number of parts that i needed, so i just got a set instead of individual parts from bricklink
  22. I have a small update, school has been priority and i dont have much build time. here are some pictures counter weight storage ( 1 set is one the other is off to show how its attached) counter weight for crane I hope to finish the crane on time for this contest, but be on the look out for my new build right after the contest whether I finish in time or not
  23. I dont think the boom could be curved, but i mean you could make it a straight boom and it would still look great
  24. I was going to use my 8 actuator idea for this build, but if that doesn't work I will have to use a non Lego actuator
  25. I would have to make it with 62.4 tires, i dont have 24 unimog tires
