[PORSCHE] Porsche ZERO
zux replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, it could be named luggage compartment #2 (bonnet being the first one), but I stick to more common names. And Porsche is well known for keeping his horses at the back, so that's why "engine cover".Another thing this is a part of body that helps building distinguishable body. -
[MOC] Lego Technic Mousetrap

Would be good for expositions placing in between "do not touch" signs. -
It is not the first time I have heard parents saying kids are building their models according instructions and never modify them or MOC. I've even heard parents not allowing kids to mix parts between the sets (hic!). I think such videos encourage kids to use imagination and inspire with fantasies (no boundaries) to build something new. I don't think this will any affect on AFOL community. There tons of ways you can use LEGO alternatively already.

[PORSCHE] Porsche ZERO
zux replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have added URL for video. Probably not with this model :) Those in a link you provided are just slightly larger than the human. And look at my model - it will go fast! True, I have been remembering 8448 while building. Interestingly this model does not contain a single panel which are so popular these days. These are the only wheels I could have used to look Porsche reminding of a bicycle. It surprised me that overall model shape and proportions looked quite good with the size of the wheels. Initially I thought body wouldn't fit under the size limit. Another thing that amazed me - there were quite a lot entries using same wheels, which aren't popular among 4-wheeled Technic MOCs. -

I like how you did the other part of the roof and back. I see how I could've done mine a bit better.- 46 replies

[PORSCHE] Porsche ZERO
zux posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello! Here is my entry to Rebrick Technic contest. What happens if you combine these two great Porsche products: Porsche ZERO My model is probably the slowest of all entries as you have to use pedals to make it move! And is probably the only case, when the friend you are giving a lift could make you go faster - there are pedals for him as well With 2-gear gearbox (high/low) you have chance going up some hills too. And to make fast cornering possible front suspension geometry features positive caster and Ackermann steering. Handbrake will make sure your precious model is not going to ride without you. Model features: 1. Two pairs of pedals for propulsion 2. 2-Speed gearbox (high/low gears) 3. Handbrake/driving mode 4. Steering wheel/HOG 5. Front suspension with positive caster and Ackermann geometry 6. Opening doors, hood and engine cover 7. Porsche body frame (to keep weight to minimum) Model turned out to be quite large due to used tyres, but it is still under contest size limits. Green lever switches between two gears. Yellow lever engages driving model as normally handbrake is ON. This is to reduce stress on parts due to model being displayed more than actually riding. Handbrake is made by pushing angled liftarm against small tyre. Making some space between them engages driving mode. Inspired by FERDINAND GT3 RS. -

Thanks for understanding. If you are still interested why I was surprised - it turns out some common things are not so common over the globe. I cannot tell for all countries in Europe, but the closest to Lithuania use March/June/September/December as beginning of Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter. Wikipedia mentions some more countries like Australia, Austria, Denmark, the former Soviet Union and Japan and that it is also used by many in the United Kingdom. Before reading Wiki article I thought it was the same everywhere. Well, maybe different for southern hemisphere, but that's for obvious reasons Now thanks to you I just got to learn more. -
Tire and Rim Compability

If I remember correctly, Efferman used two of these: as a hub for some tyres. I think the for balloon ones from 9398. -

I'm also building a model, in red. Waiting for missing parts before I wish to post it. Your model has much less open spaces. However I already see some similarities in couple of places. I wonder how you will come up with the rear part of the roof.- 46 replies

[Porsche][WIP] Mission E
zux replied to Buddy010702's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Using soft/flex axles might be easier to achieve desired shape of the upper body part. Especially at the back side. This would require you to make rigid B pillars to hold the roof firmly. -
[HELP] Eternal WIPs
zux replied to Cumulonimbus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Everyone has failed MOCs. I haven't build much to discover my pattern yet. However I found that during the time you are thinking of building certain model try imagining design of the most complex things you need to do. Completing that would give you much motivation to complete the rest, or at least move forward considerably. I have also found that building scaled model is somewhat exhausting also. Like, you can figure out how to build the chassis with all the functions but then you find it is not so easy to recreate a body in great details you were thinking of earlier. Building non-branded vehicles is simply much easier. You can use your imagination or free build using parts that match the coolness of the model you wish to achieve. Building size matters too. Bigger model can have much more details, but it is also gets complicated with chassis, due to extra weight, torque distribution in powertrain. However failing here gives you a valuable experience (I did that). Do you recognize the lack of motivation/energy to finish a MOC? This happens especially if something doesn't work as intended or there is a problem in a design you cannot solve quickly. Giving a day or two helps sometimes. Giving reasonable timelines to finish the MOC is good to do (yes, we all want to build a MOC a week). Completing a MOC kills motivation for some time as well. If so, do you have tricks, methods, deadlines, etc to continue and actually finish? Do you find that the community helps you in continuing your build process, for example with a WIP thread on a forum? There is no standard pattern. Some MOCs get finished quickly, some after a long period of time, others get failed. But what works for me is a deadline for public/LUG meetings. There is always urge for show off for unknown reason . However, at the same time competition deadlines don't work for me at all. Posting a WIP topic is basically stating MOC is never going to be finished, as this quickly kills the motivation if you still had any. Ad besides that, failed MOC is not always failed. I had build a chassis for one of my models and worked very well before I lost interest in finishing (building a body). So instead of scraping it I have practised building in digital. In the end I got much experience, had made a step-by-step instructions and made them available on Rebrickable. -

[VIDEO REVIEW] 42053 - Volvo EW 160E
zux replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Didn't find much MOCs using such piece. Not sure why would this be a big deal. On the other side connector #2 in Orange would seem to be better to highlight. There's much more applications for it. But these both are neither new or recolour, so no reason for mentioning them. -

I'm no specialist in DC minifigs. Looking at "Sold in last 6 months" list I see 2/3 of such minifigures sold at similar price. So could be a legit offer.

I did a quick search and could only find on YouTube. It might be not the easiest one to follow.Sets are not the only source of the parts. If you are looking to acquire specific parts there are websites like Bricklink or Brickowl you can use to buy exactly what you need. -
New graphics are in the air - share your feedback
zux replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
Why so much arrogance? I have already said sorry! Please be advised the question I've posted would have been completely normal where I leave. There might be some cultural differences which could explain the difference in perception. I'm not questioning your work, effort, etc. - appreciate you took time make new banner and change it. I like them and the variety they bring. The only thing I was looking for is to simply understand "why the time banner gets changed is different from calendar season". Mentioning "official start of Summer is June 21st in North America" in your very first reply would have been more than enough. You live and learn. -

Well, for me banner got changed a week ago or so, which is pretty much basically a middle of the season So... Sorry, I was curious and not looking to insult you and you result in any way. I just thought there is some tradition or other not well known reason -

Why these banners are always 1-1.5 months late to each season? -
Yeah, I'm curious as well. Isn't BT range enough to stand in one place while controlling the model?

9.5L springs alternative
zux replied to arshiaIQ's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ah, that makes it complicated. Checked which tells me 1 extra hard spring is somewhat equal to 2 soft ones. These are much more common, but not sure if there is space to fit two springs per wheel in a model you are building.Soft springs are much more common so you could probably find sellers from Iran-friendly country (like Russia?).- 18 replies

Ups and Downs of LEGO shopping online
zux replied to just2good's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Um, Bricklink and Brickowl, probably, are the main non LEGO Group related shops you can use to buy exactly what you need. You can always find a funky seller, but most of the time shopping experience is really great. If you don't feel confident then paying with Paypal will give you a buyer protection, so you are safe here. Returns/missing parts are handled buy each seller independently. Some may ship you missing parts, other might want to send you a partial refund. It depends how you agree with seller. If you have any questions please ask seller first before placing an order.
