[TC18] Codename: Katana
zux replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Are you sure rubber connectors are sufficient for suspension to articulate? It seems like they are already being pushed down by the suspension frame alone. And entire body will weight more, much more.- 20 replies

It looks nice, very nice actually. Everything fits here quite nicely and I agree with the right wheel choice. -
[TC18] Mule (wip name)

I wonder how would the model look with smaller tires in the front and rear. I know most of us prefer models with larger wheels all round, but sometime smaller could be better. -

Well, yeah, why wouldn't it be a good name if you like it? -
[TC18] Wrong pickup
zux replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's not color vomit Pickup is still mostly Dark Azure, with some extra stripes on the side. At some point I was thinking maybe I should try swapping yellow/orange/red stripes with just white beams. Didn't know this was Toyota's thingy. For some reason I always thought they were called "sunset stripes". Wonder if there are other names? Plate is just placeholder for now, sadly don't have 2x3 tile yet. He meant Mazdarati featured by Roadkill. It is more of a Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) than the classic pickup truck. -

It turns out combination of yellow, orange and red with dark azure doesn't look too bad. -
Depending on a set/theme designers allowed to introduce either new parts or new color for existing bricks. It is unknown what are the limits, but designers are using this to the fullest. From the recent interview with 21322 set designers on Newelementary: We know that each project is assigned a number of ‘frames’ which are what designers use for new elements, be they printed parts or recolours. By our reckoning, you used 12 of your frames to recolour elements for this set – but perhaps some already existed in other sets we’ve not yet seen? Milan: It was actually much lower than that which made this a real challenge and no doubt influenced some of the changes we talked about earlier. Austin and I had to beg, borrow and steal in order to make it work – true pirates! Some, like the black barrel were generous ‘donations’ from friends and colleagues. Others were very much needed – I can tell you that the Black Seas Barracuda loses a lot of its pirate appeal with a Vibrant Coral hull.

Yeah, Mazdarati is a bit of inspiration as well. Relocated the rear lights - looks cleaner now. But then I've also noticed the nice combination of Dark Azure with Yellow and Orange. Need to explore this combination a little further. -

Haven't spot interesting solution you've used for A pillars. Also the overall shape look nice too. -

What about using this part? It is exactly 4-studs long. -
Some suggested sets to begin with. Although, as mentioned above, there is a fair amount of expensive parts you may need to acquire additionally.

Nice C-model! There's strong P205 feel in the front with R5 at the back. -
[TC18] 9398 Baby Car

Oh, a cute little baby-9398 On a serious note, it is impressive how similar it is to the grownup 9398. -
[TC18] Wrong pickup
zux replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As name suggests it is "wrong pickup", which is play of words: picked up wrong item (the engine), which is now used to propulsion; pickup (vehicle) which not like the rest of pickups and is now wrong/useless since it can no longer be used to transport other stuff. There is also no way this engine would fit under the hood with the way front suspension is built right now. Looking at other TC18 models I see it is possible to achieve similar goal (getting V8 in front), but then it would require entire rebuild of the front (probably coming with a very similar solutions to an existing TC18 entries, which will look like copying) and much more compact (less impressive in terms of looks) engine. So I'd rather have it different and keep it that way. So yeah, engine will stay at the back. -
[TC18] Wrong pickup
zux replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The overall body shape and proportions for this MOC are, mostly, influenced by Mazda Rotary pickup. So it is not going to look like the classic US pickup truck, more like the usual car with a bed. Taking the right shape now. It is a bit of pain designing a nice looking door handle with limited selection of Dark Azure parts. Any ideas? I like the side view proportions a lot. @Jurss and @agrof you could spot few more flags (not intentional) in this picture as well The back isn't something I'm currently happy with. It is just the first design iteration though, so hopefully it is going to look better soon. Oh, and spare wheel is HoG. -
URO 4x4 fire engine truck

Great replication, looks just like the real one! Is it mostly static or there are some functions apart from steering and opening doors? -

[TC18] Wrong pickup
zux replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
TBH, that's the usual practise of using the most colorful and easy to distinguish parts, so it easy to count them, how many I'm still missing. So, none of the flags were meant to be designed here, although I like the idea about rasta hood. Something to consider! -
[TC18] Orange Cabrio
zux replied to Ivorrr's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It look like you don't even need that. Just prolong the axle and ditch all the u-joints. It will also save quite some space at the top. -
It won't be 100% the same, that's true. However reserved idea discourage others from building the same or similar model. And it was common in the past that reserved idea had never materialized (with not a single picture posted). This resulted in that idea not being build by anyone.

Finally receive fenders. So it is time to attempt in building a body. Dark Azure is a little hard to work with due to lack of some generic parts in this color, but seems to be doable. -
This is something I haven't event thought of, for unknown reason. However, I would have changed minifig hand to bucket handle anyway as it looks so nice and accurate.

42111 - Fast & Furious car
zux replied to Kaanere's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Probably got all the pieces already, so not really interested for buying this for parts. However new frame is really interesting though. I remember people asking for beams/liftarm with holes in alternating directions. So new frames seem to be an alternative solution for this. Parts list shows both type of panels have same piece count for L/R.
