I almost wanted to correct you on this, but just in time I remebered that where I saw it before was in set 60043, which is also a 2014 set... I'll check today, but last week our local Intertoys still had this set for sale. I think this set is better than 7639 though, more realistic. Not sure if I'll get it, will probably wait until it's on discount.

Thanks lightningtiger! Forgot to add the bit about the building process. I had in mind to build one of these for quite some time. In the process I had already modded my 60002, but I didn't have enough of the shutters used for the equipment compartments. This week I modded my 7286, which freed up 2 of these shutters, but with a white frame (which I ended up using on the back for the compartment containing the fire hose and pump controls, see picture below). Then yesterday one of the big online shops here in the Netherlands had a nice (one day only) offer on amongst others the 60002 sets. Then I got the idea to build two identical fire engines. So for the heck of it I ordered 2 sets 60002! Just to make sure I had enough parts… ;) The 2 new sets arrived today, so I had 3 sets 60002 to play with. The building process was a lot of fun, but I had to keep my mind on it, to make sure that ideas used on the one truck werent forgotten by the time I had to implement them on the second… They are not 100% identical, in some places I had to use 2 bricks where I had used only 1 on the other truck. Not something you will easily notice though. There are quite a lot of parts left, so if anyone has some ideas for another Fire Engine...

Today my city took delivery of 2 long awaited new Fire Engines. The brief for these vehicles was they had to be compact, all-round fire & rescue pumpers, based on the standard model 60002. As the city already has a ladder vehicle, there was no need for the erectable ladder that is standard on the 60002. However: more room for tools & rescue equipment would be much appreciated and a bigger watertank was also added. In the end the city ordered 2 identical vehicles, so they could be interchangeable if the need should arise. The two engines replace 1 vehicle, also based on 60002. Overview of the two new vehicles. Paid Membership with perks? Any interest?
jfbat replied to Siegfried's topic in Forum Information and Help
The ads on this site don't bother me at all. I wouldn't even mind if they became a bit more prominent, as long as they wouldn't distract too much from the main business, if this would keep the site free. I am on a few sites that offer paid memberships. Almost always there are "perks" for paying members. Some offer a membership that entitles you to free or reduced priced activities or goodies, that are sometimes also exclusives for those paying members (meaning they're not available to others). Some go further and have parts of the site closed off for non-paying members. That last option always makes me feel uneasy: I understand that some paying members would like something back, but that kind of "we paying members are an elite group of people" thing would actually put me off considering getting a paid membership myself. So would I consider paying for membership here? Well, I'm not sure. I believe that the first option should always be to keep it free for all. If for some reason that won't work anymore and paying members would help keeping the site alive, I might consider it. I would want only perks that would not feel like "locking out" to non paying members (a nice exclusive item at a reduced price, for example), otherwise a small title showing I contributed to the upkeep of the site would be just fine. At the moment I am not a paying member on any site. I have been a teammember/moderator on one site for more than ten years now. The time and effort spent on that site don't bother me, I still enjoy doing it thoroughly and the gratitude sometimes shown by member by just small compliments or letting you know they appreciate you being there for them makes it al worth (and nullifies the abuse that we also have to put up with, alas). -
My city has gathered an abundance of Fire Brigade vehicles and isn't short on Police vehicles too (especially police bikes, went from 0 to 3 in the last few months). But it only had 1 ambulance, from the Starter Set from this year. And that's seriously small. So it was time we upgraded to something more serious. Something substantial in size. Something that would not only have space for the driver and about three-quarters of a patient, but for a complete patient and an extra nurse too. And some stuff to keep the patient alive. So the challenge was to build a large format ambulance. To provide the space neeed, the back had to be 7-wide. Also: that would look more like the larger amulances around here. This provided some challenges, but in the end I got there. So here it is: my city's new ambulance! Space for a stretcher and a cupboard for medical supplies. Front view of the back end, with a seat and monitoring equipment for the nurse.

We're on different continents, so that might explain it. Sets that cost around 21 euro this year stlll cost that next year...

Lowering prices? The sets that are now available in the shops over here are at the same pricepoint as similar sized sets from last year... Re the neverending "why more police" discussion: I'm conviced that it's just smart business having these sets and renewing the line quite frequently. However: some imagination within the theme would be well appreciated. We're seeing the same sets over and over again. I wouldn't be surprised if parents decide not to buy sets from the new line simply because they bought a similar set this or last year. Yes, they did experiment with the forest police range (which I've got a feeling didn't do that well), but there must also be more variations possible in the "classic" police range.

Earlier today I counted my "robbers" (you know, the guys with the handily recognizable striped sweaters) and came to the alarming conclusion that they comprise about 15-20% of my city's occupants. I even have more robbers than policemen. Maybe the Fire Department can chip in, I've got a lot of them too...

The new sets are slowly trickling into Dutch shops too, I noticed this morning. Sadly only some police sets, specifically those that I am not interested in... Edit: ah, well. Picked up 60043, which will provide quite a few parts I wanted for a possible mod. Built it and it absolutely no keeper. The interior is a mess, especially the prisoner compartment which has no level floor to speak of and is open at the wheelarches (from under). The door at the back is simply too big. I like the front, which would make a nice basis for a security van, but I'm going to use the parts of this box for another mod of a more "sound" pursuasion. A quick pic to demonstrate the "openess" of the prisoner compartment floor:

Thanks for the comments! As said the white instead of bley grey was something I thought about too. The lighting issue was also something I was tinkering with in my mind. Well, some slight rebricking has lead to this: Oh, and because it seems like this will be a keeper, I also put some stickers on (have tons of them lying about, usually only apply them until I'm pretty sure I won't break the set up).

Funny that, after posting it here and seeing the pics again I had exactly the same thought…

This weekend I was able to buy set 60007 High Speed Chase at a bargain. The 4x4 was very much to my liking (even more so after some modding), the supercar less so. Even after some modding it just didn't do it for me. So I decided to break it up. As said: I liked the Police 4x4 very much. And because breaking up the supercar would provide me with a nice supply of red bricks, I got the idea to build a Fire Brigade 4x4, loosely based on that Police 4x4. The bricks from the supercar were not enough to realise this, so I also broke up the Fire Brigade car from 60023 Starter Set, which I thought to be a bit bland anyway. This provided me with the much needed bonnet, cabin roof and doors for the back. Together with some stuff I had lying around, an afternoon of trying, building and rebuilding resulted in this: Hope you like it!

With some modifications and a different cab it's also a good template for modern Northern European ambulances:

This weekend I reached the point at which I am now able to cuff the entire population of my city. Man, they hand these out like crazy...

In these here modern times it's all digital, you know… ;) (I know from experience, had quite a few of them this year)

Ah, let the wait begin. Hoping it will end up in the "must go" section at our local toystore. Had quite a few nice bargains there. Fingers crossed a stagecoach set will end up there, really like it but it's shamesly overpriced because of the licensing fee...

Quite a few shops still stock them, so I think it will be a few months. Offcourse some people will try to cash in early, but there's even a chance that some shops will lower the prices as it's an "end of line" product (well, ok, that's maybe a bit of wishful thining on my behalf).

It's listed as Sold Out over here (Dutch Lego.com shop).

I'm not sure, but hasn't FB been around quite some time longer than those sets you see selling for rediculously high prices? I think a lot more sets have been sold of FB and indeed: a lot of people are anticipating the demise of this set, so the market will see quite lot more sets for sale once it is finally discontinued. There will always be a market for these sets and inevetably the prices will be higher than retail once the set is discontinued, but the profits will be quite a bit less high, I think.

Random quick car question for the Europeans amongst us...
jfbat replied to mostlytechnic's topic in Community
I used to drive some 60-70.000 km a year for my job, these days it's about 25.000 km in my company car and some 5.000 in our own car. On one of my company cars I had my tires last for 100.000 km, but that was kind of a record. Usualy they get changed at about 50.000 km. It's harder to keep track now, though, because these days I drive on wintertires in the winter. -
Bol.com has the pictures up also: http://www.bol.com/n...tml?limit=10631 I'm gathering the official announcement isn't far away anymore. Don't take too much notice of the prices, Bol usually is a bit on the expensive side... By the way: the workings of the cartransporter are now revealed (and don't really surprise me): And as someone already suggested the there are hatches on the sides of the firetruck/crashtender: The lighting truck is quite a simple affair, but I like it's simplicity:

There are a lot of similarities, indeed, but also subtle differences. The cab has got mirrors, for example, and the end of the trailer is also different. But I also think 60049 could be a special, largely based on 60027. Won't be getting it, unless there's a great deal on it (I got a LEGO set for free this year which I would never have bought myself).

E-one apparently have returned to a more basic, classic look for their crashtender. These "old" beasts look way more modern to me:

That's still available over here. At least, I saw it in a store saturday.
