Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
rollermonkey replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Is everyone happy that this year's advent calendar didn't have a single weapons rack? Actually, apart from the desert skiff and the 'snowman', all the minibuilds were pretty darn good. -
Ordered the Rebel Combat Frigate from LEGO.com yesterday

Review | LEGO 75168 Star Wars ● YODA'S JEDI STARFIGHTER

How glaringly obvious has it become that R2 is way overdue for backside printing? I mean Yoda getting printed hair is nice and all, but seriously. -
Rogue One movie discussion thread
rollermonkey replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well, as usual, my opinion is contrary to other SW fans. I liked TFA a LOT more than R1. Some of the events in R1 felt completely hokey, a LOT of the fan service felt forced, and I didn't even catch all of it. -
Yeah, you can't just stroll into a place and after 5 years of contribution, start asking to help make changes! That's not how the world works, CM4Sci.

Is it modular? I built mine in geographical order, south to north, I think it looks better that way, too. -
Insult on Hoth could have been an all time great, with an accurate generator, an actually modular base instead of a couple of rehashed bits of wall, and an actual assault force. The old Death Star was pretty popular, but frankly it was an incredibly dated looking structure. There are dozens of ways it could have been improved, instead they chose to update the minifigs and not much else. The new build still looks like something from 15 years ago. It's sad, really. 75098 might not have been a lazy design, but it's certainly not very impressive once laid out, at least Ewok Village looks big. 75159, on the other hand is pure laziness apart from the minifig designer(s). That's my $0.02

Maybe the stairs and one or two studs, but the footprint isn't right either way. It's pretty durned slim, whatever is shaved off.

Sith Fury Class Interceptor (TOR) (IDSMO-R4 final)
rollermonkey replied to markus1984's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wow. If it weren't for the 14 visible studs, it'd be hard to figure out that's even LEGO. -
Are you guys saying the east face, or the west face is cut off of the Capitol building? The argument could be made that the model incorporates components from both, and ultimately is true to neither.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I can't wait to see how the heck they pulled off making every single panel on Krennic's Shuttle openable. All the videos on LEGO.com... as in ALL of them. ...and if TLG says the embargo is still on EB, then it's time to shut the place down, because that means they hate you. -
Huh. I don't think I've seen so much negativity and discouragement on this board in a long time. Yeesh. It's looking good so far. Build what you want, don't let these guys tell you what you cannot do. Trial and error will teach you more than people trying to build something for you through the PC screen.... And sometimes breaking something teaches you best of all.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
How different could a Death Star remake really have been? They didn't release a new Episode IV with all new Death Star scenes since 2008, so it was always going to be the same scenes. Just like all the X-Wing and Snowspeeder remakes that are going to continue ad infinitum until the license is allowed to lapse. Since almost everyone blew a gasket about the disconnected aspect of Assault on Hoth, shouldn't getting one big build be the preferable option? Which means it pretty much had to be a sphere again, with all the same rooms, right? The Death Star II UCS clearly never sold as well as 10188, so they weren't about to go that style again with big sphere just for looking at and collecting dust. So how would they have changed it, it still been the same battlestation, and still included the appropriate scenes, and it not being essentially the same set, only updated? And does anyone REALLY think they will keep the same price point as a set released a decade ago that had less pieces, the same number of minifigures, and is roughly the same size? That way lies financial ruin. Now, I'm going to wait until we get actual images of the actual new set before suffering tremendous personal grief and injury then complain for DAYS (maybe years) about how it wasn't twice as large, but $300 cheaper, with 200 more minifigures (120 OT Stormtroopers, all the guys in the conference room, all of the Bounty Hunters from the SSD Bridge scene, plus exclusive editions of Aunt Beru, battle outfit Padme, Walrus Man, Dr. Evazan, the Cantina barkeeper and of course, Willrow Hood with exclusive ice cream maker accessory looking for a ride to Bespin. -
Apart from the fact that they are both AT-AT cockpits made out of the same color LEGO, and both have a radar dish for the access door, there is virtually nothing the same about the two builds. If you look at them side-by-side, you immediately see dozens, if not hundreds, of different design decisions.

If only Insult on Hoth had been named Defenders of Hoth instead... There might have been a lot less complaints. Well, a little less. I blame you for the name issues. They didn't want to get accused of stealing your idea. :)

Kind of underwhelmed by this. Parts pack it is.

Much more likely to be the Sydney Harbor Bridge this time.

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Um. Comparing the sizes of two different things to two other things does not relate the sizes of the first pair. You have to relate the first two to the same thing, or you might be able to relate the middle and have it work. Example: A < B and C < D No assumption can be made about A and C (or B and D). If A < B and B < C and C < D then A is < D, but if A <B and C< D, but B > C, then relating A and D is still not possible. Logic aside, it sounds like you would have better served the original poster by simply saying: No, they are not in the same scale. (Because I'm guessing that Tantive IV is bigger than the Millennium Falcon) I just noticed that the U-Wing actually has a side-loading troop door in both the leaked image and the official concept art reveal. Thank goodness for the little accuracies. Now, let's just hope they didn't get something big wrong, like wings that don't move. -

Are there actually zero duplicate figures in the RO wave? And where is Jyn? Is that her in the 75155 with zero detail? -

I got the first one in January (I think), and bought 1 or 2 at a time since then. I think that everything else I need to make the module I'm planning will total what those 6 Hailfire wheels cost.- 1,124 replies

Tomorrow. That mod in the video is pretty good, but it doesn't look like he got steering in there. -
Just based on my experience building Elsa's Frozen Palace, if you're planning on having them rotate, one way would work to keep the spiral shape, but the reverse direction would keep them stacked and aligned. You said you're looking to use it in a machine, so if you're trying for an Archimedes' Screw type effect, it would work, but rotation direction would be limited to one way.
