Problem with Parts Cracking
N-4K0 replied to therealjustin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
With cracking, I mostly experience the perpendicular pin/axle connectors as in post #84 cracking, and sometimes pins, usually the 3L blue ones. I don't really check up on assembled models, so I don't know if I still have any cracked parts. Speaking of cracked connectors, I'm not a Lego purist, so if connectors that has a pin hole in them cracks, I usually keep them and modify them to pin bushings. -
42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
N-4K0 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'll definitely get it, whether as soon as possible or later depends on the price and place. -
When the Half-Blood Prince came around, we saw Snape seemingly murder Dumbledore with no regrets. Only later in the Deathly Hallows did we learn that everything regarding Dumbledore's death by Snape's hand was planned. So regarding Kylo possibly working with the Resistance, we don't know at this point. That said, considering the reactions of Han when he was impaled, Leia when she sensed it and Kylo's internal conflict, I don't believe it will turn out to be "planned" or some such thing. Of course, Disney could pull a Snape in episode VIII or IX and reveal it was planned, but for now I don't get that impression.

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
N-4K0 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Meters and tons then, I assume. -
I get that. I mean, there's a difference between not caring about something and not considering it to be "real" Lego for whatever reason. That's the aspect I just don't get, but each to his own, I guess. Back on topic - I'm starting to really consider buying the BWE when August comes. I have a project in mind that could benefit from some of the parts.

I will never understand this -
A bit off-topic, but: I don't understand why some people consider Technic as not Lego. Back in the days when Technic started up, it was IMO very similar to regular Lego except the long bricks (beams) with holes and the additional axles, pins, bushes, gears etc. Fair enough, Technic today might not look like Lego at all compared to regular bricks, but IMO it's Lego as long as The Lego Group makes it. And I personally find Technic much more appealing and interesting than the "regular" Lego

Feature-wise, that's what TLG should have done, put the battery box in the place of the panels to act as front weight. You'd have the wire going into the vehicle body, but that's not a big issue IMO. -
42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
N-4K0 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
From the pics we have, I think this new bucket looks better and more realistic. I do kinda feel that they look a bit too big to the scale of the BWE, though. -

N-4K0 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't think so, the side of the bucket from the mounting points down to the teeth have a bend in it, going slightly inwards, and the edge is different, I think. It looks like a new mold to me, or at least an updated mold, but I'm not sure. -

Sorry if it has been mentioned, I might have missed it: When it comes to the problem(s) with gearing and axles mentioned on the previous page, would it be better for bigger sets if axles and perhaps also gears were made of metal, to avoid twisting axles and broken gears on longer connection travels? Of course this would probably require the metal parts to be encased to avoid finger injuries from metal drive train that doesn't go as lightly on stuck things as the plastic. -
Got the 42049 and 42050 yesterday. Already built and upgrades planned.

Impressive size considering it's the first of its kind in Technic. I have to agree that there's a bit too many colors, they could have rather gone with primarily e.g. light bluish grey and dark blue and made a more appealing color scheme, but nonetheless quite interesting set IMO. I'm definitely tempted, but it'll probably get too expensive for me, and I ain't got enough space for it next to my other models. -
8235 studless
N-4K0 replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Did the original shake when the arms were lowered? I kinda recall such a thing, but I might be mistaken. -
Welcome to this community I hope you enjoy building and have a good time doing so

Wow, and here I have been planning to make my own studless version of this set although I plan to build it exactly like the original, same placement of liftarms and stuff, just rebuilt studless. I feel quite nostalgic about this set, I used to have it once. Brings back the memories. -

I can imagine a moderately sized one akin to the blue one with single tracks, I can't imagine they'd go with anything bigger without it getting a bit too expensive. And technically, the single-tracked one in a fair size could still be a fully working BWE on par with the bigger ones with multiple tracks, it doesn't have to be in the realistic scale of the size of a mall

A thought inspired by JBTechnic in post #119: What about relaunching updated versions of the most popular/most voted for set from every 10 years? Like the most voted for set from 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007.
