Nope, they're the 81.6x38R tyres, which are a bit smaller in diameter.

I'm building one right now, although it uses a few studless parts because I needed to shorten the wheelbase and get more gear reduction. I think there is a site called Texbrick (?) that has a studded crawler axle in one of the pdf's on the site. Not sure about the crawling power of those old square motors tho. Is the flaw the steering? Looking at the pictures again, it looks like it won't move.

I don't think you'll have an issue with the old 24t gears, but I've only broken one once, and that was something without a motor. So I think you're fine motorizing this stuff unless you drop it off a table.

Probably just an issue with a single part, once I stuck two 2x4 bricks together; I still haven't been able to pull them apart, even with a clamp. I wonder what that's all about though, maybe this should go in the quality reference topic...

Oops, really sorry about that. But the same thing happened with some parts on the Technic forum and the images looked a bit suspicious, and they all got removed. Well, now I'm certainly looking forward to that 3x3 cross plate! I guess I didn't bother to check the user...

It's pushrod steering for each wheel, I just haven't built the other side. When it is in zero steer mode, both driveshafts spin the same direction; when it's in normal steer mode, the driveshafts for left and right wheels spin opposite directions.

Wow, peter_m, what that customer service lady said to you is disturbing... Kind of odd for a TLG employee to say something like that. That's just unacceptable for a company with such a good rep.

After way too long, I have decided to actually try to finalize something I have built. I decided to go with something nobody has ever done before with Lego, and this is what I have so far: <snip> Sorry, no pics in the OP, as to not scare people away with my horrendous start of my WIP... Anyway, it's a zero steer crawler. You can scroll down to post #4 to see the pics of the actual WIP as of now. The design uses four driveshafts for four functions: left wheel drive, right wheel drive, left wheel steering, and right wheel steering. In the middle, there will be a gearbox controlling the direction of the two steering outputs, with an M-motor to steer and a micromotor to shift the transmission rings. The design will be based off of Effe's direction reversing gearbox, but with fewer outputs. The whole vehicle will use 4 IR channels, two of which are occupied by the steering motor and gearbox-shifting motor. The other two will be used for the two driveshafts, one XL motor per channel per driveshaft, with a mechanism on the remote to switch from normal to skid steer drive. Of course, comments, criticism, etc. is greatly appreciated!

I played around with one once, you can program them with software, but you can also just drive them around with the remote, and you can customize them with anything. Plus, the six 36t DB gears, black 12t SB gears, metallic silver 9L links, and fiber optics are pretty awesome. In any case, I doubt you'll ever find a better deal!

Wow, everything is actually a lot cheaper than I expected! Even though I'm mostly a studded builder, I'll be stocking up on dogbone frames, 3L axle pins, 5L stop axles, and suspension parts. The price for the linkage is ridiculous though, that's odd.
