My First Crawler (WIP)
Technyk32231 replied to Junpei's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If it was set up that way, the wheel wouldn't turn, since the outer gear is the wheel rim. I think they are the same. The part that is fixed is just different than a normal planetary gear. -

It's the RC unit. It contains batteried, receiver, and I think the steering servo. -

Wow... That bodywork is better than what I could do even on a large-scale supercar. -

Unless I'm mistaken, I see kingpin inclination. I know that, I just thought the steering looked advanced for a typical lego crawler. -
Try angling the steering tie rods upwards and not parallel to the arms. Just watch Nicjasno's video on toe in, toe out, and bump steer.

I'll try, if I can find the small wheel hubs. I actually have the whole thing built already. I have the pistons aligned as if in an engine, and an axle goint through the middle. There is a 2l liftarm on the end of the axle which moves the steering back and forth. The tie rods use modified parts, however. I use the end of a 6L link with a 1L protruding axle in a toggle joint. The toggle joints attach to the steering arm. The whole assembly is only 5 studs wide, but it is very difficult to spring.

Damn, I procrastinated again. I should have started my idea earlier. Then, schoolwork hit me. I was going to make power tools. I started them yesterday, and I only have half a working drill powered by an XL motor.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's "legal" does it, unless you're entering it in a contest, right? I mean, most (if not all) if Nicjasno's creations could be considered to have "illegal" parts, couldn't they? However, I would consider this legal, since Lego produces it and it doesn't require any tools to remove it. Even if not considered legal, you're the builder, and if you want to use it, go for it!

Old School Triple

Very nice! That rat rod is awesome! To complete it, you should make the black discs in the wheels different colors. -
I had an XL motor hooked directly up to a pair of perpendicular knob wheels... Let's just say it bled for a while and was a weird purplish color for about a week.

Is it just me, or does this crawler have surprisingly advanced suspension geometry? http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=449789 Except for the negative caster, of course... Reason for edit: Mainly not to make nicjasno upset. :) -
Variable Pitch Propeller

Very nice! In the video description, it says that the design uses a modified part. Which part would that be? -

Oh, I understand. I know about rebrickable, but what I meant was the least numbe of sets you need to make a certain model. This took a while to type( damn you autocorrect) -

I have two questions: 1: Why isn't this thread pinned? It is actually a very important thread. 2: Would it be a good idea to have a topic, or a section in the MOC index, that shows the sets you would need to build each MOC with instructions?
