  1. Why not just use a rack and pinion for the shifter?
  2. I love that 2x4 piece! I used it in a solid axle design, with 2L pin jointers joining those pieces on either side for a steering kingpin holder. I've never seen them used in a gearbox before, though.
  3. Oh, I thought it was the other way around. My bad.
  4. You know how LDD lacks a lot of the technic parts that many people use? I've been trying to figure out how to add parts to it, and I think that I may be on to something. On a windows computer go to Computer > Program Files(x86) > Lego Company > Lego Digital Designer, and there is a .xml file titled "ldraw". It lists a whole bunch of parts, and I think if I modified it correctly, it would be possible to get the whole Ldraw parts library in LDD.
  5. The only problem is that it's big. However, it can be made much smaller, and can handle a reasonable amount of torque.
  6. I just realized that no matter what, perpetual motion isn't possible. To have a perpetual motion device, you would have to have over 100% efficiency.
  7. It's just a regular trailing arm setup. I think I will just add a tensioner wheel.
  8. Ok, so here's that coupling I was talking about. http://www.brickshel...al_coupling.lxf
  9. I built a tank tread setup, and each road wheel has trailing arm suspension. However, when the suspension is compressed, the track tends to "derail" from the sprocket wheels. Does anyone know a simple and robust solution to this?
  10. Looks very nice. Are you using the front wheel hubs from 8448, and rear hubs from 42000? I don't see the 3 pin hub on front, and I see a 3 pin hub with gray pins at rear.
  11. I believe that the only way to make a perpetual motion device is not by creating energy, but by making a machine that runs on something that can be found anywhere in the universe.
  12. Yesterday was the strangest day... for the past week or more it's been about 30 degrees or less, and snowing. Yesterday, though, all the sudden, it was about 70 degrees and felt like April (although it isn't unusual to have sudden weather changes in Maryland). Where I live, when the weather is nice, people will drive around their old cars. This is where this post gets more on topic. I wasn't able to get any pictures, but I saw many classic cars and many different kinds of rods, which I may build in the future. I saw an old orange Ford F-100, an old mid 40s Chevy, a bunch of old VW Beetles, a bunch of hot rods, rat rods, and street rods. But strangest of all, I saw an old Jeep hot rod. Sorry for the long post, but these cars really inspired me.
  13. The other day, I made a coupling that transmits rotary motion, and also handles lateral, longitudinal, or angular displacement between the input and output shaft, and can handle any of these at the same time. I will post more pics and maybe the .lxf later, once I get to the computer.
  14. I'm sure it can. Almost anything can be made rc.
  15. Oh, that makes more sense now. Still, that could have been accomplished in a more compact way.
  16. Looking good! Smart use of the RC unit as the seat for the snowmobile. However, I don't like how you used 4 universal joints on the steering shaft. I think that could have been accomplished in a much more compact and robust way. I'm not saying that your design is bad, I'm just worried about the strength of the universal joints.
  17. Oh. I was just looking a little closer, and then I saw the lettering on the hoses. Except for the lettering, though, the tubing could be easily mistaken for stock lego tubing.
  18. I don't think they modified the cylinders...and they also use stock lego tubing... If they bored out the cylinder ports, and used industrial tubing, they probably could get more performance out o this.
  19. Not as many people would buy that, because not everyone has the Unimog. I feel like I just recently saw a lego model of one of those. I think it was a triple challenge entry on this forum.
  20. I think you mean the one by Nico71. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first trophy truck that Sariel has made.
  21. I find them good because they are so common. I do think though that this topic would be more appropriate in the general discussion.
  22. I love that drag link steering! Looking good! That battery box is really hard to use with a small(ish) chassis...
