How to get the collectible mini figures you want
Peppermint_M replied to Dodger's topic in LEGO Town
Hello Dodger, thank you for the useful information. However, (I might not be 100% on this) EuroBricks was possibly if not the, then one of the first to have displayed and distributed a list of all the barcodes used to ID the minifigs in bags. Shortly after that a variety of apps for barcodes were suggested within the Collectable Minifig Discussion thread. The other members have possibly let you know this a bit brusquely, but there have been rather a lot of threads posted by new members about the figures and I think everyone is getting a little fed up of them. If you use the search function (it's just under the little user navigation bar)you often find the right places to post your information. Sorry about that. -
I do not collect sets, I collect MOC parts. There are very few sets I buy on their own (few) merits. I do not keep them built for very long. I purchase many sets for the parts provided and use them to build right off. No particular themes, unless it is an Action Theme, which often have features that make me want to buy all of the theme.

Let's face it. Action Themes have never really been aimed at an AFOL audience. None of the themes have the lifespan of the evergreen Castle and Town, nor the dedicated fanbase of Pirates. These days they barely muster two waves and are over in a flash. However, we still like them, we buy the sets and MOC along with it. We invest in themes that have a short lifespan. My question is thus: Why? What attracts you to these themes and why do you buy them? I myself love thier stories and the worlds built around them. The figures always look so exciting and the colourschemes much more interseting. The fact that they have one foot in reality is also a plus. So, how about you?

I see. I knew that Sluban was a copycat, but I never was sure if they did outright clone the entire set or not, it was hard to match sets when I was researching for reviews (mainly because there is nothing but corperate for the other brands, unlike Lego). Thanks for clearing that up crossmr.

The figure is an important part of Lego. I prefer a set or MOC scaled to a figure. The figure is more than a helpful scale tool, it is also a character of a vibrant world. My main part of the hobby is MOCing and it runs 50-50 between making a MOC from a concept and populating it or making a minifig then giving it a MOC.The collectors are somewhat confusing, but I know the appeal of minifigures, so I can see why some want them and only them. The main reason I am not sold on the Toy Story sets is their "off scale" designs. Urgh, is hard to explain.

Well, I do not mind that I am not the only one looking at things other than Lego. I'll add the Hello Kitty one later, have to grab a bite to eat before work now! Thanks again. Globaly Oxford is the Eastern threat to Lego, Cobi the European and Mega Brands the American. The better the others get, the better Lego has to get.

Ah ha! I shall add those now.

Oooo Liago are a bootleg brand (I have a set) The main signs are the very Lego wheels, the design is not often copied 100% by clones. The next is if it matches a TLG set, but I am not an expert of sets (only minifig parts). I wonder if it is a copy of any set?

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Peppermint_M replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Guys, this is a discussion about the collectable minifigs, not a Lego quality history discussion. In relation to the figures it is ok (to a degree), but large circular "discusssions" regarding long term alledged issues in quality are not for this thread or forum. Please take them elsewhere. I think the robot is most popular due to all it's rather spiffy parts, the arm, the helmet and all the epic printing the rivets. -
I think the name error was the simple post editor the board uses. I used the full editor this time, hopefully to great effect! Again, thanks for all the reviews of really hard to find elsewhere sets. You're the Korean Correspondent!

Awesome Mecha set! Too bad that the only way it gets to Europe is through Sluban, 100% Oxford bootlegger...
-
I think I prefer Cobi's jeep (but it is a lisenced one) Cobi being the best Euroopean challanger to Lego. Thank's for the review, it's a pity the figures aren't as compatible, but the patent/copyright on minifigs is something Lego does has a claim on. I dislike the term Clone Brand, but it is a lot better than bootleg or ripoff!

I am neutral as my national team never qualifies... Great MOC though!

Have Action Themes Become Extreme?
Peppermint_M replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I think it is more Wacky Races, Dick Dasterdly kind of way, not a kill them dead kind of way. -
As it is just a flower show, they are on display for a short time during the competition. These however match the pirates from pirate falls at Legoland, and I guess you could take Legoland as a study of bricks outdoors. Those beyond reach of the public stay together fine, with a little sun bleaching and rain grime.

My Customization Philosophy
Peppermint_M replied to Saber Scorpion's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I love making custom figures. My philosophy is thus: Does it look awesome? If yes, go for it. So, as I am not the best at detailed painting, I stay away from it. I do paint parts one solid colour, but only those parts I have multiples of. I will cut Lego, again, those parts I have many of. I love to use clone brand tools, from Brick(custom) to Megablocks and crazy sets from China. I bought a mid sized order from Brickforge for some swords, I bought about 6 MB Dragons figure booster packs for the detailed and cool weapons. I bought a brick toy tow truck for the elaborate tools. I got Best Lock for khaki green army helmets. Sluban for flak jackets. They all look really great so I use the lot. I'm not saying people should agree with me, but I think that you shouldn't dismiss other brand sets out of hand. (Which is why I review them once I have bought them for the cool parts). -
Added to the index! Now that there is more than one Oxford set, I can make it a seperate heading. willy_poodle, yes there are many mixed media MOCs (as I prefer to call them) I have some myself. Posting them on EB would possibly cause riots... Check flickr for them and you are sure to find some.

You do realise that you will now have a lot of requests for Oxford military helmets... Thanks for the review. Oxford is one manufacturer I have been unable to purchase, eBay sellers demand higher prices than Lego! The quality looks really good and the helmets are pretty nice.

I read and interesting article yesterday about a Lego Garden. Here is a picture gallery of the garden. It's cool to see Lego being used for more unusual things. Although it does look like a decorative corner of Legoland.

Batbrick, there are only a few ways to build a minifig scaled Dalek. They are not some abstract concept, they are a known object and have source material. Thus if someone decides on building a minifigure scaled one there are only a handful of variations, as you mentioned he only built it with one of those parts and a 1x1 cone not a lever. Heck, the only reason mine is any different is because I have nothing against using bluetak to stick lego to other lego in ways that are impossible. Oh, and the broken torch/blaster I was able to use as an eyestalk. So please lets not turn this into a rather pointless argument about idea stealing.

Old old old MOC taken with a camera on a phone about three years ago.
