  1. That Mill will make a wonderful addition to my village (Made the mistake of showing it to my Mum, I think I will have to get it for her to help build. Those minifigures are also rather good Man, why does 2011 have to be such a cool year for sets when I have loads of important (and expensive) things to do?
  2. Pirates should provide many nice generic torso prints for a Les Mis scene and there are certainly many heads to fit. (I am still undecided on the perfect Val Jean). Welcome to Eurobricks Javert
  3. Merged threads to keep the discussion together. As there wasn't a pinned I thought there wasn't a thread about the new sets. Continue gentlebeings
  4. Well, it looks like the space police have hauled in their last ne'er-do-well tracked down one last missing hyper-purse and caught their final miscreant doing 500 in a 300 zone. Space Police 3 is finished, now it's time for the Aliens to have their day!
  5. While I can't link any pictures I have seen, I am sure many of you have already come across and heard of the new Space theme for the next year: Alien Conquest. From what I have seen, it looks to be good fun, like UFO and Insectoids before it, a space theme focusing on the aliens. So chaps, shall we discuss?
  6. Now, this is one of the sets I will certainly be getting. Thanks for these reviews. I am compiling a list for my trip to the Lego shop on Monday I do like the new squared hilt of the sword.
  7. Hmm, yes, TLG would certainly make small spikey objects that children would certainly throw out of a hard plastic. That doesn't just scream lawsuit, oh no, not at all... Of course it is a rubbery material! Thanks for the review Tin 7
  8. Thanks for this review. The set looks a little pricey for me to purchase. The ninja and the skeleton are rather awesome. Can't wait for the proper sets!
  9. It's how they were raised sadly, society as a whole has a hard time changing their predefined gender roles. The damsel in distress archetype is a real pain but an accepted trope for centuries. If only TLG where to put a few strategic action girls in place.
  10. Right, so now I have to hope I get well enough to go down to Cardiff then I get three days off after Christmas, so I will have the opportunity
  11. Cobi and Bestlock (they parted ways in the last year or so) are Competitor brands, not bootlegs. I find Bestlock stock to be rather bad quality, Cobi is a fine competitor to Lego, great quality parts and themes Lego never touches. I have had one or two issues, but they are not as bad as any single bootleg set you could care to name. Once more with feeeling: A bootleg is a rip off of the set designs parts and branding, there is a confusing logo that resembles a known brand and they are often very poor quality. All in all they try to be sold as Lego. A Competitor (Or Clone) Brand is a company that makes bricks in competition to Lego, they have their own set designs and sell under their own branding. They share the stud and tube grip and many basic bricks but they often have unique parts themselves.
  12. I know, this has been an issue for years! Alpha Team and Rock Raiders went some way to stopping this, featuring Jet, pilot of the Rock Raiders crew. Cam and Radia in Alpha Team never once were damsels in distress. These days, if it's a girl, chances are that she'll be rescued at least once... My collection hasn't one damsel in distress, there was one MOC I made with lots of action girls in, my sister and her friend went to play... They had a tea party it was quite comical to see the femme fatale with the Lara Croft lookalike and several Samus style bounty hunters holding goblets and tea cups around a makeshift table (Lego never being my sister's strongpoint, despite my great example). Here's hoping the new year brings some more action girls!
  13. I will be most displeased if the UK release is too delayed...
  14. The "flyer" I posted and linked, that was on Lego.com said there would be though. That exact weekend...
  15. Curse ye flu and snow! Ye confine mineself to mine abode! *gumps* Bah, if I wasn't ill and it wasn't scary bad snow outside, I would be off to both TRU in the near area to seek out the new sets Glad to see they are out here in the UK soon.
  16. There wasn't any tan that I noticed. There were no exclusives when I went on the first day of opening, which was annoying.
  17. Not too exciting I'm afraid, bricks and plates, nothing in colours I was looking for. The Build a Minifig was great though.
  18. Thanks for the picture of those figures. Looks like I can get a black army helmet after all.
  19. Well, they are left in one configuration for a long time, with weight on top, the bricks can stay stuck together a lot harder than usual and need more force to take apart if/when you try to. Also, sometimes, once these bricks that have gripped for longer are seperated, they can be a little looser gripping later, due to slight deformation of the plastic.
  20. Looks pretty strong. Only time can tell how long term a heavy object can stay on it. Try it out and keep on inspecting it for stress fractures or breakage. As long as the loading is well distributed and you don't tempt fate and put loads of weight on it, things should be fine.
  21. Patience would be good. For some reason, I cannot see the images, there is an error message instead. The strength of a Lego structure and weight it can support is dependent upon the construction. A television presenter here in the UK made a two storey house only out of Lego that he lived in for a day and a night. So there is nothing to say that lego can't hold speakers and CDs.
  22. As explained before. Hasbro make action figures and have the license to make them. They make money from making and selling these Star Wars figures. TLG is also making money from selling Star Wars figures in a similar format, even though they have the license to make buildable brick based "play sets" with the figures as a compliment to the set. Hasbro have cottoned onto this sneaky practice of selling "magnets" that come apart so you can just play with the (action) figure. (Say what you will, but an action figure is an articulated figure) If Hasbro started up their "Built to Rule" line again and made sets of Star Wars ships then TLG would not be amused.
  23. *hand to forehead* It's not Megablocks... Massive difference pointed out above.
  24. Once again... Enlighten is a bootleg brand. That is indeed a bootlegged set design, their "own" designs seem to ape a MOC I have seen before and the many LEGO guns sold by custom set sellers (One of which turned up in the news a while back). About the only thing I can ever say that is good (to a given value) is the variation in colour for utensils and weapons. The plastice varies wildly as does the clutching power. Enlighten most certainly is not Mega Blocks, a legitemate devision of Mega Brands and legal competitor to TLG. Feel free to pick up the sets yourself and see how dodgy they are.
  25. Using some magic hoodoo he turns skeletons into his monster warriors. I mean, if you are willing to suspend disbelief enough to allow skeletons with no ligaments, muscles and tendons to walk around and wave weapons, well, magic making them more monsterlike is easy! I think the potential to combine the sets into a large temple/HQ looks to be very useful. I hope The temple is a set.
