  1. @ Lightening Tiger: I think I'' keep that one under my hat for a while, I want to see what TLG are working on (unless I get impatient). To the rest, bravo, Society does pigeonhole us entirely. Whether it be parents who surround their child with the "right" toys or well meaning but mildly harmful extended family or educational figures. By the time a child gets to an age when gender segregation in the media occurs, they are wired to conform. You'll notice the nuetrality of pre-school television which slowly gives way to blue for boys and pink for girls by about age four. With parents, some are determined to give their child free choices and none of the more genderised social norms. Other parents will treat a baby dressed in blue differently to a baby dressed in pink when said baby is still in the gurgle and expell liquids stage of life (I cite a sociological study) and they have no idea if the colour "matches" their gender. A little cachet: My mum was determined to let us play as we wished, as such, I loved Duplo and System. I made planes and castles and siege weapons, spaceships and Adventures. My sister, in the exact same situation played house, wanted Belville and chose Barbie. We developed differently in the same environment, as such natural tendancies can also run through. My sister is a much more nerturing person than me, as such she preferred playing nerturing roles and playing house. I was more into scraping my kness in trees and pretending the rugby frame in the school field was a spaceship. Natural can affect a child too. Anyway, more animals or fairy tale themed sets will certainly attract more "nerturing" girls, boys who want animals and AFOLs who buy it all anyway!
  2. Oh yes, because the girls who read sparklevampire misogyny would totally be playing with toys too... The fairy tales sort of theme would work very well. My sister and I would act out some stories using my Lego, and she had an interest in Belville when the tales told were some of her favourites.
  3. To strive to improve is an honourable thing. Never fear about the photography! This is the worst offender in my archive. I like to think I managed to improve a little in the intervening years!
  4. Well, it is a nice little temple and the pictures are better than what my first posted MOCs had. However it isn't too hard to rotate the pictures. Windows XP and Vista both have a picture viewer that allows you to rotate them to the correct position and add sharpen images. Paint has a lot of tools useful for resizing and rotating. Flickr and a few other image hosts have tools on thier site that allow you to edit the image.
  5. I'll grab a quick pick tonight. Glad people think it's ok, I was hoping it hadn't strayed too far from the Fabuland style...
  6. Well, the ebay lot Quarryman so masterfully won for me also had 5 Fabuland figures, added to my two hand-me downs made a decent population I decided to give the scale and style a try. As you said is looks like the World Racers and Speed Racer cars, my main influences when working on cars over Classic Town 4 wide. I tried my best with a more Fabuland look, but the styke I like to build made itself known. I'm glad you like the colour scheme, it took an age to decide on! I have a few other figures to play around with later on, so I should have some more MOCs soon
  7. The pony has a notable difference in shape and size when amongst horses. If you avoid grouping it with many other brown horses it would be easy to pick out in a stable scene. It is just soo cute
  8. Queen of Secret Poetry was for a little poem I wrote, but it is a secret (if it wasn't posted) My little pony. For my latest aquisition. From I Scream Clone.
  9. Lionel Lion and his new ride. They see him rollin' they hatin' is it 'cos he's furry? Combining a slight classic curve to a modern angle and style. Lionel is cutting edge in his pimped out ride. Word. More at Brickshelf (when moderated).
  10. The Stable's latest addition, a lovely little pony. Miss Carry brushes her hair while little Jodi has an apple as a treat for the new arrival. Please note, this is why Quarryman is teh awesomes!!! For winnig the ebay lot with the pony in
  11. I am merging now. The old thread title will stay, I like it better than the other one. Now, I need to reasses my position. I still dislike pink, I still prefer it when the more actiony themes include involved female characters who do more than be rescued. Like Jet, Cam and Trace, Gail Storm and Helena Skvalling. They are all great characters and show the boys who play with Lego that girls do cool things too. However, I do know that more normal girls want animals and princesses. I appreciate that and think TLG should try a theme like that. A recent article in a UK paper mentioned this too.
  12. Kids love a mystery Myself, I love the thought that I could pick up an entire box and make my money back selling to uptight AFOLs as "custom" Doctor Who Lego figure parts.
  13. Sorry guys, Enlighten is a bootleg brand, not a clone. Their two not-a-lego-ripoff sets seem to be taken from AFOL MOCs. The piano is certainly from a MOCer I have seen on TBB and the gun looks a lot like the one that featured in a news article about a bloke who had a SWAT team called on him for building it in his office... Plastic in the bricks goes through mechanical failure too easily for safe use a lot of the time too. Until they have a website and are no longer making knock-offs I will see them as a bootleg an not a clone. *goes off to start a change in jargon*
  14. Earlier post (November actually) has demonstrated that in real terms, $100 once a year is not much at all. I am certainly interested in seeing what is coming from this new project.
  15. Hmmm... I think I might give this a miss, I want Nya, but her figure comes in a pack later, so I will save money and get that. There is something about the set that just turns me off it. And I love purple! I can't quite place what it is missing, but there is an abstract something that makes me reconsider buying it. I saw it built in a display case at the Lego Shop, but still I would prefer another kind of "evil castle" for Garmadon. Thanks for the review though
  16. I HAZ PONY There was an ebay lot I wanted which ended when I was out. I placed my max bid there but it was outbid. I had earlier asked Quarryman to keep an eye on it incase of losing and quite fantasticly he sniped it for me
  17. Another thing you've got to remember is that TLG won't do Doctor Who because the market is fractionaly small when made global. There is no profit or even many sales in any country other than the UK. Over here it is an inndelible part of culture, in the rest of the world it is cult and niche. Now, Character have had great success selling action figures and playsets based on Doctor Who in the UK, now they are sliding over to some building sets, a popular choice of toy with a popular theme will do well. There is plenty of source material for them to draw from. A thought to consider: If a customiser were to sell custom Cyberbaddies and TankSuits (after all, the BBC holds the rights to the actual names) would you buy them? I do believe this coming easter will be fun for me and my collection! I wonder how hard an army of Daleks would be to create?
  18. Why do you have to be confined to one brand? If you like the theme, the lisence or some other feature, why not pick up a few? I picked up minimates for the characters, MB for the weapons, Cobi for accesories. Looks like I will be getting this for awesome Doctor Who stuff Go with what you want to do. I mean, you get your favourite brand cola because you like the taste, but if the rival comes out with a flavour you want to try, you wouldn't not get it out of loyalty to the other.
  19. The Coldstream guard is looking pretty interesting, too bad there is unlikely to be a Beefeater and a proper Police Officer. I do like the Gojira figure and the bowler hat is pretty fab, even if it is blue and adorned with a flower. The gladiator is decent too. Another series to collect
  20. Two series 3 figures. It was a boring week for me
  21. Zorro was one of the first members to greet me to Eurobricks. From that moment I knew that if a staff member greeted mere neophytes, this forum was a friendly community. He will be missed quite certainly. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Goodbye Lord Admiral Zorro.
  22. Also, if you let them know how it broke they can take into account the problem to design out or avoid in future.
  23. The more generic (Super, Toy, Brick, all popular words to use in names) are never very good. These clones are low production cost, low quality. You are better off going for Cobi or Oxford if you want military themes. Best Lock is ok, but substandard quality isn't worth going for.
  24. Moving to Special Themes, the new home of Collectable Minifigures!
