Standardized Action Theme?
Peppermint_M replied to Searcher's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Formula, or Tropes are used in all stories. As it stands, the tropes for Action themes are all very similar from "era" to "era". That is how they were classified as Action Themes here on the forum (I'll have to check the Lego Book, to see what TLG call these non-evergreen themes). The basic tropes are popular for role-play among small children so the latest short theme will follow those lines and be called an Action Theme (for ease of organisation) here on EB! -
When to SNOT and when to NOT
Peppermint_M replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Use it for aesthetic effect. There are far to many MOCs that are simply over-the-top use of a certain building technique and as such look terrible. However when used artisticly it looks great. I use it for details and shapes that regular building cannot achieve, like a decorated or molded wall section can be created by placing the parts on a correctly sized plate and SNOT-ing it into place. I also think that some SNOT methods are so close to "regular" building that it is incidental to your MOCing. Just experiment a little and see what happens. -
Two points here: First: Could you reduce the size of the picture? Second: Puck, please could you avoid quoting an entire (very large) post for a one line reply? I discovered that the picture was pretty huge when editing Puck's post. For future refrence chaps, Bricklink thumbnails can be posted, as they are a lot smaller. There is also a thread for ID-ing parts and where they came from here.

New Lego Store opening in Cardiff, UK!
Peppermint_M replied to jm28cardiff's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, I will certainly be going there for the grand opening. I do not think I will be within the first 300 but I might get lucky. Stock update for the interested: Most 2011 sets are now there. The Grab bags seem to be in evidence. The PaB cycles through parts pretty quickly (Gold Treasure Chests!). Lots of new keyrings and magnets. New Train Track. However the BaM seems to have been greatly depleted. So, you'll get a good haul if you go there. -
Collectable Minifigure Series 1 Big Index
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Special Themes is the new home for things regarding all Collectable figures at once. So I have moved it here. -
Ok guys, calm it down a little? I know glue and Lego are an emotive issue, but I do not think it need this kind of vitriol. From further reading it seems to only have been some of the most vexing of greebling that got glued on, and most household glue is laughably simple to mitigate at a later date. As it stands, it seems to be someone succumbing to the siren song of a star wars set for a child a little younger than the recommended age. If when they get older they want to MOC or what have you, it is the simple work of moments to find the main methods of de-gluing. As for the parents complaining about wanting to re-sell: That's greed mixed with the sighing knowledge that many children get bored or outgrow an expensive toy very quickly. I mean, I have a box of Sindy things gathering dust in the loft, a crate of those little plastic trading fads that turned up every year at pocket money prices and countless other bits of rubbish that don't hold any value for me now (not even nostalgia). I mean, who here remembers POGS? At least if darling and jr. outgrow their toys and never give them a second glance, they can be sold to finance the musical instruments/sports equipment/gaming system/clothes/giraffe that catches their attention next. So, calm down dears, it's only a newspaper column!

Wow. That is one awesome MOC. NewRight, you never fail to impress. The curvature also interacts perfectly with the Ninja Go structures. Keep up the fantastic work

Arsenal Gunners (English Premier League)
Peppermint_M replied to Snowspeeder Pilot's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
is the button to use. You post the image URL into the box that comes up and insert it to the post. Classy custom, being a bit of a fan myself I was planning on a classic strip if I ever had space for a football stadium in my town. -
So sad, so beautiful. Music is soul food.

MOC: In Search of the Snake Staff
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Eh, this is just a throw together. I will likely improve some parts of it, but my mind is already springboarding into potential theme extensions (a quest into the jungle to find Eldorado etc). Thanks for the critique, all to often do MOCs get left to be buried in a forum. I do hope that the Lego Shop restocks its tan so I can rebuild. -
Eurobricks staff member TheBrickster brings us this fantastic fusion of new and old with his NinjaGo Training Hideout Head on over to Action Themes to take a closer look.

Glue is fail. Son may break set, so he makes a space-pirate-ninja-castle-ship that the Jedi and Stormtroopers are having a fight on. Not a glued lump of useless. Man, some people are thick... I mean, that's the whole point of Lego, it breaks so you make a new one! It isn't airfix! I have heard of those strange adults who become parents and lose all sense, but I never knew they were real. Is there any way you can contact this poor soul and just gently explain the whole point of Lego?

MOC: Ninjago Training Hideout
Peppermint_M replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Oops, a little misunderstanding in rightpondian/leftpondian. What I meant was, "These days not many sets have baseplates. This MOC looks very much like an offical set, however due to a lack of baseplates in contemporary sets, it doesn't quite look like you would be able to purchase it from a shop." I find some humour is lost in text and also when one crosses the Atlantic. -
MOC: Ninjago Training Hideout
Peppermint_M replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It it weren't for the baseplate, you'd think it was an official set! The colours are certainly more classic ninja, but I do sometimes think I need shades when looking at the new ninja go sets! Thanks for the MOC Brickster. -
Burman: Getting the last book so far of the mini-series can be a terminal mistake! I jumped into Discworld with a book half way into one of the many character series within and was so confused by it I didn't read another until the cover of Soul Music appealed to me. (At 15, a grim reaper on a motorcycle is awesome). Wee Free Men, Hat Full of Sky and Wintersmith all preceed that book, fleshing out some of the details one is assumed to already know before approaching the book. At the moment, I myself am planning on rereading all the Watch books, then possibly the Witches.

I think I am going to go with: "Urr Duh" (lit: Yes) Lets see: 22, Female. Shelfload of Final Fantasy Action figures, trading figures and other random anime figures. Shelf above: Lots and lots of robot animal model kits. Shelf under: Many a comic TPB and a collection of 30 year old SF books... Alongside a large selection of anime plush toys. Favourite accessory: Aviator Goggles. Mode of dress, I buy a lot of my clothes from Blue Banana, plenty of band T-Shirst from gigs and comic book related tees (I have a bit of a wonder woman tee collection by accident), jeans, leather jackets and large boots topped off with odd hats. I have a rather large Lego collection. I buy Lego regularly. My default function seems to be reading SF paperbacks. When I was 10, I neatly kept my Beano issues in date order inside a box... Yes, I am a Nerd, a Geek (I do not agree with "dork" due to it's first meaning) I am not of the normals. I think I transitioned from "mosher-geek" in my younger years to nerdy-gothy-punky me. Of course I wear jeans and a blouse to work, but outside I'm, as someone put it, "a bit punk rock" I see no negative connotations to the terms "nerd" and "geek" I see it as the mundanes who worship the great god conformity feeling a little threatened by those who do not match their norms. There is no reason to be ashamed, really, just live your life without regrets and remember that ne mundys have a much more boring time of it, or have equally "nerdy" persuits (my brother collects football (soccer) statistics from newspapers, tv and the internet... Yet I am the nerdy one...). It is all a matter of opinion in the end.

REVIEW: 7326 Rise of the Sphinx
Peppermint_M replied to Bricknave's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Indexed! Thanks for the review, it isn't quite Sphinx Secret Surprise but it's pretty cool anyway! -
I thought I had seen something like that in the Lego Shop, through all the crowds it was hard to tell... Just thought I would also mention: I was in town yesterday and there were adverts on phone boxes, "the eys in the mist" logo on the top top and a Lego logo with the website on the bottom

MOC: In Search of the Snake Staff
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I bought it for £2 with every intention to review it, however the final result was a frustrated tangle of mini k'nex parts and bricks... I was rather vexed to find the helmets didn't fit Lego figures too, the head is narrower than a figure one, it has flattened sides. The cheapness of the set was all that salvaged it! I wish there was a moulded snake head though, that would be very cool! -
REVIEW: NinjaGo Skull Motorbike
Peppermint_M replied to hawkyboy4's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
If you could deeplink the images, it would be great. Here is a tutorial on how to do so, also here is a tutorial on re-sizing them if size is prohibitive to posting. -
I have sketches of ideas at the moment. Need to get the rest of the team and a green baseplate for it to be buildable just yet. Watch this space! (By which I mean Action Themes...)

Found some spinners in ASDA. Not much selection was left!

Sorry to be a little bit of a pedant, but Lego logos on bricks never run in a circle, that grey brick has the "sugaring" (as I call it) symptomatic of older Mega Brands bricks, I have a substantial number suffering from this issue. As such, not matter how childish and silly the manner in which the accusation was posted, it is far from lible, merely a statement of fact. (Lible being written defamation) Just chill a little, they are all toy bricks in the end!
