  1. We already have an over-reaching name: Quest. Orient Quest, Island Quest, Amazon Quest. Simple and effective. More serialising than the Adventurers banner too (they all sound like old saturday matinee serials too!)
  2. Well, if these turn up in the UK, I shall have to get some! Those drums look like a nice counterpoint to regular old Lego Barrels, the figure parts will always be useful. If the bricks are Oxford, they'll be tip top quality and great for a little extra when building. Thanks for the review!
  3. The Inca people, Incas. They were in ancient Peru (built Machu Picchu, that city?). Then you have the Mayans (they of the world ending predictions) Aztecs (heart cutting out on the stepped pyramid) and the Olmec, (made giant head sculptures).
  4. This too:
  5. Powerman5000 - When Worlds Collide Would link but it is on my music library... (everyone knows that filesharing is naughty bad )
  6. Thanks for all the input chaps. I was thinking of giving it a bit of a tweak (to be honest the wing props were to stop the 2x4 plates that make the wings from seperating). Who would have thought that the 1,000,000th post would have been made on a MOC by me
  7. Ah, I do not think there will be further adventures in Egypt, the concept can be expanded to other loactions though.
  8. Whew, I have been on a bit of a Monster Rancher marathon. Used to watch it when I was small and such. Anyone else know it?
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGQe3H1SASc&NR=1 What a strange happenstance, I was listening to this track and came upon this thread! I too have an army of ninja, I shall have to share it some day. I see you have very many, that must have taken some collecting!
  10. My stance on unwanted Clone bricks is donate. If you haven't got enough parts to really donate, see if it is possible to recycle it somehow. However, if you have some parts to donate and you get a lot of mixed lots from yard sales/charity shops/ebay, then keep the odd clone parts in a box until it is full enough to donate. Those mixed lots always have at lest a handful of Mega and the odd generic chinese brick.
  11. That is a really well presented MOC The0, the temple and ground around it make a good scene setter. The giant guard looks just like a mecha that the Atlanteans could have built or repaired with the flotsam in the ocean. A great MOC all 'round.
  12. Love for Fabuland. For many AFOLs, the feelings of nostalgia for the theme is strong. They recall their childhood days when life was warm and rosy (and as such, incorectly recalled) and a handful of builders continue building the theme. For others it's the anthropomorphised animal characters. Some find them cute and others find them a little subversive and thus more fun than regular old figures. Then we move along to the next set of questions posed. Jack Stone has no nostalgia value for these guys. Some of them came across the sets just as their Dark Age was waning, they are horrified by the how it isn't what they played with as a child, it isn't their personal favourite theme brough back from the past. It was simply a stepping stone system for younger builders that most pernickity old AFOLs just took as an affront to their love of LEGO. For some AFOLs, it was what kept them from leaving their Dark Age. Mark my words, when those kids who had Jack Stone grow up, if any become AFOLs, there will be a return to that scale and figure for some. They'll seize upon an unusual, a unique idea and of course the nostalgia for their lost youth (Which is another reason there are AFOLs in the first place). The Knights Kingdom II sets also had one simple failing: They weren't classic castle. They were not what AFOLs wanted (ie, the same again please, nothing new thanks). The story and "juniorisation" are only cited as reasons to avoid them looking like kiddies along the lines of "whaa, whaa, mean TLG made a theme that wasn't like what I wanted/had as a child". Personally, KKII kept me from a dark age, I loved castle but the last iteration (Fright Knights) had been deemed too creepy for me, these new ones were perfect, the creepiest thing being a scorpion on the baddie knights. I was able to buy castles again (until Exo Force, then it was all Mecha). Stories told about the characters in Fauland are different to modern story telling themes. While today, the entire adventure/story is mapped out (but not in town of castle it seems) for all to see and lends a cohesive play experience for children but allegedly limits storytelling on their own. Fabuland simply told stories about their characters, it was by all means not the only thing that the characters did. Oh, and story criticism, when levelled at Bionicle is simply an extra thing to add to the against column to avoid most of the Againt group looking like five year olds screaming "It's not like the lego I had!". To be honest, Fabuland isn't my thing either. At 22, there is no nostalgia for it, I was still teething on duplo blocks way past the final sets of the series. I had some figures as hand me downs from an older friend of the family, they were slightly disturbing and I somewhat ignored them. When I found out what they were, I made a token attempt at some MOCs and then moved along. Recently (in the succesful persuit of a pony) I aquired some figures. Lionel Lion is pretty pimp yes? I just had to make a small MOC for that figure. Otherwise, I can take or leave 'em. Mostly, the nostalgia makes people positive about the theme. A good review of a set is allowed. "Harsh criticism" of new sets has rarely been evident (in fact often times, the reviewer is fine, you the op are often the most harsh against review, set or reviwer) and the personal opinions on a set are just that. The Reviewers own personal thought. The inescapable facts like price are the only things that can be used against if a reviewer really likes a set. No review can really be objective, unless a simple set synopsis is posted. (And then there would be hand wringing over it not helping someone make a choice over sets to get).
  13. The event was great fun! It was fantastic meeting everyone there and I had a brilliant time. For a clue, I am often seen wearing goggles. Journey home was pants though. The town of Reading sucks. (sorry if you live there, but it does).
  14. Gentlemen. I have already directed you to the correct thread. Please continue your discussion there! Else drastic action will have to be taken
  15. Here. The thread was even called "Help Removing Sharpie!".
  16. They are alcohol based, both sharpies and deoderant/body spray. The one breaks down the other. Hairspray is also alcohol baseds, but it is sticky so not advised! I mentioned it before in one of the "How do I remove sharpie" threads.
  17. We already have a perfectly good thread for set purchase choices here. Thank you.
  18. I will take pictures too. It was cool meeting everyone yesterday, and in the early hours of this morning when a contingent arrived from the airport.
  19. Hi all, tired Peppy is tired, she is sat in her room. Is everyone in Chaucer building? I am. Who has dinner plans? Anyone else here yet?
  20. I am here :D Am going to dump laptop in the room and head into the city. Yay!
  21. Love love love those aircraft! I will most certainly get to building things like that when I have some free time. Thanks for the links!
  22. Replies: "The right engine racer works on the principal of Moar Powah! The large engine, when activated, tilts the pod to a horizontal from its resting tangent. The pod itself is simply a position from where the racer can pilot and by rules has a single zap-blaster mounted to the left side. Complex fins and rudders positoned about the turbine casing allow for a high level of manoeuvrability. The power cores utilise a variety of sources (so far featured have been Coch-sticks, Orange Core and the popular Airforze circulation cell) and all provide both power for the drive and for the levitainium frame (as everyone knows, levitanium cannot provide it's unique uplift without power running through it from an external source). The levitanium provides lift to the race pod and the heavy turbine engine. The racers then compete in circuits designed to showcase the unique locales and challenge the racers to adapt to the different environments. Holographic action pads situated around the course allow for interesting results when blasted. Some provide an advantage to the racer while others put the rest of the field at a disadvantage. Both lap circuits and straight runs feature on the exciting Right Engine Racer programme. Tune in every Saturday at 15:00 (GMT) on the Xtreme Racing channel for the WRA's live race!" There are a lot of teams on the circuit, each fielding a single race pod. There are a number of designs used, including this featured racer in which the team have designed it after older aircraft including a non-functional propeller and somewhat useless left wing. (Beware the brain of Pepper, she fills it with shiny cartoons, spiffy Speculative Fiction and many a book of flying craft, fictional and real. Also Real Ale, lots of fine British Real Ale)
  23. It was five years ago. Five Years. Half a decade ago. The OP has not been active since 2007. EB was a different place five years ago. The OP felt a need to post this thread and there were seven replies (counting the OP responding.) Really and truly it doesn't matter. In fact I think I need to lock this thread. There was no need to re-post here. There was no need for you to post after mine and ISC's reprimands. This thread is no longer required.
  24. Right Engine Racer. The large engine is on the right hand side of the pod.
  25. Presenting the latest entrant to the World Racing Associations exciting new Right Engine Racer competition: The Lancaster Hurricane. As a conceit of the racing team, this machine is styled after the aircraft of yesteryear and named accordingly. The powerful prop-turbine is partnered with an aesthetic addition on the pod. I was looking through my aircraft books today and also browsed a nice gallery from a recent airshow. I just had to build this stylised RER. Grey shades and yellow are my two favourite partner colours, especially for MOCs styled after this particular era. More on Brickshelf (when moderated)
