  1. Is there any sort of after event report? I had considered attending, but this year is not the best for plans (so far four things have been scuppered by me getting ill!) due to uni commitments. It'd be nice to be able to guage the event, so I can make plans to attend next year with displayable MOCs!
  2. Hellboy is Dark Horse, not Marvel... Anyway: Seeing as we had a Baseball player, does that mean we can have a Cricketer? My H2G2 needs some scary aliens and thus I need some Cricket Whites. A Snake Charmer with a basketed Cobra and pipe. Some sort of Superhero of a more generic variety An 80s styled Keytar player, in classic a Synth-pop look.
  3. Gonna have to move this out of Licensed, seeing as SoUE is not licensed by Lego and some of the natives might revolt. Moving it over to Special where misc and minifigs are the watchword
  4. A set is a collection of your related photos, so if you were to post 10 shots of one MOC, you could create a set for that MOC so someone could browse those without having to go through your photostream. A gallery is a collection of photos by others that you like, curated to a theme. So a Car gallery would be a collection of images of cars by other photographers, without having to create a Car group first. Sort of like a way to show others you favourites with commentary on whyat and why.
  5. I find brickshelf best for just hosting images (something your webspace would provide) but Flickr has the more mature community and tagging features, the groups (of which there are thousands) provide a great platform for cross-refrencing MOCs. I posted a little 4-wide milkfloat, tagged it up and soon had an invite to add it to a milkfloat photo group! There are groups for everything and anything. The major LEGO group also provides the best place to get someone to notice your MOC and invite it to their own specialised one. The photo notes and comments are also more sophisticated than MOCpages.
  6. Go by views, not by posts. In the end, I post a MOC online to show people, yeah sometimes I ask for some input but most of the time the MOC is done, so I don't need comments I just appreciate people taking the time to look. I do not comment often because as I mentioned about when I post a MOC, it is done. Also, a MOC I make looks like it does because it is my stylistic choice. If someone has spent months on a MOC and I go in and say "It's good but.." and then list a load of stylistic choices I am not fond of to this so utterly finished MOC, I feel a bit mean, not the least because they spent so long on the build. A lot of 10 minute MOCs often need work, or the MOCer wants to know what to change so at least a few of the two pages are helpful. Then I don't feel bad to list what I personally think needs improving. (I would love to take only 10 minutes on a MOC! The last one I did in 10 minutes was an 8x8 vig with one figure and some stacked 1x1 slopes!) As for the original subject. As badboytj pointed out, most thickards online don't read, they look at the shiny picture and say "Great MOC!" to get one more post on their count. The valuable input comments that a builder would want to see (maybe) rarely get posted.
  7. General Questions belong in General Discussion. Moving...
  8. This is better suited to General Discussion. I shall move it over there!
  9. Well, I watched the intro video (after some area fiddling). It saddens me that children must be taught in such a way... Although I can see my brother enjoying this for a while, the teaching will frustrate him as he has already come across many techniques on his own and is building well, without any sort "formal" instruction. The whole point of Lego is to explore the possibilities with creativity only limited by volume of bricks. I have been asked before where I get such creative ideas (I also write, so I field more questions like that) and really, you teach technique, you feed creativity. So this is great for the more paper instruction bound children with those helicopter parents who blanche at the thought of deviance from the instructions, but it will just be a nice parts pack for the ones already on the road to imaginative building.
