  1. The bags do have air in them. They are not sealed without air, though most of the bags don't have holes, so there is no flow of air. Rubber tyres might be at risk, but bricks are less so without light.
  2. Special Themes is the home for this kind of thing, the Architecture sets are discussed in Special Themes
  3. It depends what sets you would like to show. Some people will have a Full Collection/LEGO Room photo(s), so that would go in General Discussion. But if you had made a town or city out of sets, that would go into the Town forum. If you had made a fleet of Star Wars ships, then Star Wars is the best place.
  4. I'll Take a Jubilee Ale Please! It has just been her Maj's big bash, Platinum Jubilee and all that. OF course many UK brewers turned out some excellent ales to try. Got this one during Brickworld, the second important feature of the event (for me anyway!) is sharing a good beer with friends.
  5. I was a little vague really, but what I meant for the un-intuitive was it does not mesh well with my creative process. My method of building a creation starts with an Idea, sometimes a reference picture (or three!) and a gathering of parts which will include more than I need in the end, but will allow for "Oh! Shiny!" when building. If I was building a skyfi plane, for example, I would have more tail styles and engine looking parts than I would use in the end. I would go through my box of Aircraft parts and my box of Engine Parts, while also gathering basic slopes/panels/canopies from their places in the colour-scheme I have chosen. As the parts are set in front of me in a tray (I have project trays, gather all the parts, especially useful if I am working on more than one build or a planned series of MOCs) I do not have to go through lists on a screen to figure "what next" I can simply pick out a part and try it. Which in turn could spark another idea, or part to try if I don't like the look.
  6. Back! Awake! Ready to play! "Want me to zap that tentacle or finish off the squid?" Aysu took aim at Tentacle D.
  7. Many don't use digital LEGO tools, they are un-intuitive and most of them are badly limited or really just plain frustrating to use. (Why can't any one of them just have a Pan tool? Really, is that so much to ask?) Not to mention how terrible or downright bad the instruction creator on LDD and Stud.io can be.
  8. Generally speaking, set prototypes get stickers and often there needs to be marketing material and Demo sets before the printing is ready for the product on shelves. If they were selling a point of: "Custom factions! You choose the Livery" it would ring the sticker alarm bells, but not the case eh?
  9. I am that hardcore I can build in the box!!
  10. Heck no! I won't be embarrassed. (Which in itself is looking to be the unpopular opinion!) Since I was a teenager, all LEGO I buy myself I will never deny. When I was 18 and someone I knew served me at a shop, my large purchase of Exo Force was met with "Is this for [Brother who was 5 at the time]?" I happily told her that most of it was for me, but I had picked up a smaller set I knew he wanted so that we could build together. I have just returned from Brickworld in Chicago. A bit of a trip to take from old Blighty, not even once did I say it was only a holiday trip, I quite proudly said I was visiting for a big LEGO fan convention and was participating in the LEGO fan displays with my friends. The staff at my regular supermarket know that I build and buy (Some of them saw my display at a local Comic Con, so now I get asked about current and future projects), family, friends and my work colleagues all know about my hobby. LEGO is in my CV, both my hobby of building and the Moderator work I do here on EB, it has actually come up as a positive point in interviews: Creative/technical skills and thinking are proven by the building of sets and MOCs and working as part of a team to run a website from the Moderator role. Now, when I pick up quick on the technical parts at work (things outside of the requirements of my current role... Trying to leverage this and a little else into a new position in the company...) my managers and even the bosses will cite my hobby as a beneficial part of the reason for that/ I think since LEGO Masters has been on TV and the LEGO Movie introduced the idea of "serious" MOC building to those outside of the fandom, things are a lot more known about, accepted and even admired. LEGO artworks are in museums and galleries, the fancy sets are advertised on channels or in programming blocks not aimed at children/families. Sure, some critics are wailing on about "infantilising society" but history has not often been on the side of those type of critics (everything from Books onwards have been decried by some parties).
  11. "Second time lucky?" Aysu tried to break free again. "This squid is getting a little familiar..." I am at brickworld but will try and keep up. If I take too long, just point and shoot Aysu.
  12. While it is 10 years old, it came in enough sets that it is not expensive on Bricklink: That leg looks a lot more like modern prosthetics than the old peg-leg and as it is symmetrical all around, you can pop it off the hips and modify any colour Minifig legs to have this prosthetic. Just a handy one for anyone who would like to use it but were not aware it existed.
  13. "You're pretty strong, but so am I!" Aysu attempted to break free of the restraining grip. That should work right?
  14. Jumping back to C12, Aysu fired on Tentacle D once more.
  15. "Reaching into my rang eh?" Aysu fired a sot at Tentacle D
  16. "Oh poop." Aysu fired off a shot. OOC: Sorry, working up to Brickworld, so I have been a little distracted.
  17. What is your aim? Build a parts bank to build your own creations Collect Childhood desires, those sets you had and sold on or could never get as a child Collect newly released sets for display Purchase as an investment to sell on in the future Collect a certain theme (or themes) Once I know the starting point, I can help
  18. Does he have a favourite Biome or Mob? There are some nice mid-sized sets that will be fun to build and feature different creatures and environment. My Brother in Law and Sister bought The Guardian Battle for the Axolotls, as they adore their pet Axolotl. So if he has a favourite, then that would immediately engage some interest.
  19. "Sure, I can lend a hand." Aysu joined Enson and Wolly in moving the pod.
  20. "Hmm, think you can spot any keys that are more worn?" Aysu looked closely at the keypad, it would narrow things down to see which buttons were pressed most often...
  21. Don't forget Imaginext and Playmobil. There are some excellent options for Dinos there. Also, My brother in law supplemented his LEGO Ghostbusters with a Staypuft figure from Playmobil, it is not exactly Movie accurate scale, but it looks quite fun next to the Ghostbuster team minifigures.
  22. I am happy to say, after ten years: Save me a slice!
  23. I suppose the main influence on what a person (Be it adult or child) wants from a Spaceship is the main media influence in their life. I loved classic science fiction paperbacks once I graduated from kids books, so these had a lot of Chris Foss designs on the covers: (I have this book, it is AWESOME) One of my enduring childhood memories (and actually something that continues today) is watching the 1980s Flash Gordon film with my dad. Whenever it was on TV, wherever in the run-time it was, we would sit and watch it. If he came across it channel surfing (or I did) we would stop and watch. Heck, it is 2022 and we still will both watch to the end if we come across it on broadcast TV. Those are some really Deco/Raygun Gothic designs. The same with the old Dan Dare comics I read at my Grandparents, Space Opera with all the trimmings. Then we have my adoration of Thunderbirds and the other Gerry Anderson shows, with their exciting designs created in the 60s. I would try and build them using my LEGO and what was left of my uncle's collection. The funny thing? My uncle was a 70s kid, his leftover LEGO (those parts not sold as a teen to buy a mountain bike) were the grey/blue/trans-yellow of LEGO Space (aka Classic Space in the future year 2022). But I was using the parts to build spaceships from media and my imagination that was influenced by those designs. My Space LEGO was Exploriens, Insectoids, UFO and Mars Mission, while I would enjoy a few nods in the form of logos and even posters/set boxes as easter eggs in sets, I don't think they would suit today's audiences with a completely different tone and flavour of SciFi set down by, yes, Star Wars but also Marvel and the current leaps and bounds in real life technology. Maybe Designers at TLG will get the chance to recreate a Classic Space set again (The LEGO Movie did have a very nice inclusion after all, actually recently in the grand scheme of things) but it depends on the market they pitch for also. Someone in their 30s? How about someone 40+? Pushing 50? If they are making a Creator/Icons set targeting childhood nostalgia, well, Classic Space came out 44 years ago and while some AFOLs younger than 40 do have inherited or joined admiration for Classic Space from the community, it is not often a childhood connection. The broader market of adults with disposable income and a predilection for indulging in childhood nostalgia would not recognise it, instead going for Spyrius, Ice Planet, or indeed UFO and Exploriens as their Space LEGO. Anyway. I WANT ADVENTURERS! Sell to me a new Pyramid, or Expedition Balloon in creator with figures that look like the Adventurer Characters!!
