  1. Good question. One reasons to only allow "boring" LDD screenshots would be concistency - all screenshots look the same. Also, LDD2PovRay does not support flex elements at the moment. But let me talk to Calabar and see what he thinks.
  2. Martin Hronský today released LDD2PovRay; a tool that for the first time allows LDD users to create photo-realistic renderings directly from a LDD model. The list of features is pretty impressive. Here's a quote from the homepage, http://ldd2povray.lddtools.com/ And here are some test renderings (click on image for high res version):
  3. I manged to attach the plant by rotating it about 10 degrees. Remove the 2431 medium blue tile first, and the plant will fit and be possible to rotate.
  4. Good points. Some comments: 1) I think this feature would only be implemented when/if LDD start supporting true physics (like gravity, multiple turning objects etc). The LDD Team switched to the Vortex physics engine some years ago, which would enable such features, but we havent't seen anything yet. 2) I agree that this can be very annoying. The solution is sometimes to click multiple times on the same part and it will alternate between the different rotation points that exist. Then it's down to trial and error to pick the "right" one. 3) A good way to get a full BOM is to use one of the 3rd party programs such as LDD Manager. It will also allow you to upload the parts list to BrickLink. The list generated by LDD (at the end of the HTML guide) is nice, but it doesn't include the Bricks ID's and it doesn't separate colors from part names, which limits it's usefulness somewhat.
  5. Great find! It definitely seems to be a collision error.
  6. I thought more of some technique (which I haven't even tried myself) in which you can put the moveable "scaffolding brick" on a sort of pantograph contraption. But it might be that it's not a very practical solution.
  7. To fit two accessories, you have to use the method with "scafolding" as described here (note the green scafolding equipment). I just tried it and it works. But the result look kind of corny. EDIT: With some other scafolding equipement though, you should be able to get the head tight onto the backback.
  8. It would be a neat feature, but unfortunately I don't think it will happen. The reasons are twofold (as far as I know): 1) Quality control. LDD is an official software which means that TLG wants to have control over what is released. If there are people adding their own bricks and those cause crashes etc, the TLG support will have to deal with stuff that is beyond their control. 2) Features. As opposed to LDraw bricks, LDD bricks contain both collision boxes (so that bricks cannot collide into each other), and connectivity that enables them to snap to each other. Adding custom bricks would require people to know about this too, adding to the complexity. Couldn't agree more. Regarding adding logos and custom graphics, I Photoshop those on at the end. And using fine positioning of parts, it's quite easy to do with scafolding as Calabar says. Basically you just put a bar on the scene (like the 4L). The you attach a clip-piece (like the 6019) and then you just select the 6019 and the bricks you want to fine-position and slide them along the bar. It goes really fast when you get used to it. If you put three such bar/clip combos in the scene (one per direction) the you can easily free place bricks in any direction
  9. As part of the 50th anniversary of the LEGO brick in Australia, Google Australia and New Zealand is releasing a Chrome Experiment. So now you can claim your land in these two countries...and cover it with bricks. This is what Google writes: Read more here and here Try it here (you need Chrome) Discuss it here

  11. Good find Dluders. The only thing I could note is that most of the colors are not available in physcal bricks. But there are some pretty nice techniques used
  12. Well spotted. Hadn't noted your post before, but now the issue is on the report-list
  13. Yeah, I should perhaps find some more updated drivers at Intels support site. It's just that Dell is such a major supplier and Intel HD3000 such a common chip, that I was surprised it didn't work.
  14. That was an odd one Lego Otaku. I played around with your file and after some time I ended up with something that looks like molten plastic Funny thing is that the piece remains like this even after save/open. EDIT: I found the reason it won't rotate correctly: the innermost cable (56668) is a flex-item, which causes LDD to be really confused. Using one of the other cables in your model will make it work. But still kind of funny with the syrupy effect
  15. OS is WinXP 32-bit. Computer is a new Dell Latitude with latest drivers from Dell. With edge outlines turned off, the image displays correctly. I was mostly wondering if someone had seen the same type of artifacts. I mean - either the GPU supports the edge outlines function, or it doesn't. Here is something in between causing a corrupt image
  16. I just installed LDD on a friends new computer and got some weird results. Has anyone had a similar problem with the bricks being displayed like this? The graphics chip is an Intel HD3000.
  17. It has actually been reported, but not in this topic. I have a vague memory it was mentioned somewhere in the "Official sets in LDD" topic. That's usually where brick bugs like collision errors can be found. Good find otherwise
  18. From what I've been able to pick up, it is as follows: Back when LEGO Universe was around, it was the LEGO Universe Team that had the budget to order old bricks. It could have been that one of the game designers needed an old piece for some in-game prop. There wasn't a very strict logic - they ordered what they needed in no particular order. After LU was stopped, I believe it's actually us fans that are the key reason for adding older bricks. Bricks wished for in this topic are compiled and sent to TLG once in a while. Which bricks end up being added to LDD depend on a few things: 1) How common is the brick (i.e. used in how many sets)? More common bricks normally get added first. 2) Does the brick exist as a CAD-file in the TLG CAD-vault? From what I've learned there are cases when old bricks for some reasons do not, and then they have to be manually re-created in Maya by the LDD 3D designers. One such example was the old Classic Space windscreens. 3) Is there time? Old bricks don't have as high priority as new ones, and are created and added when time allows.
  19. @chuckie - there is free rotation tool in LDD. It's called Hinge Tool. You can read about how to use it in the Help.
  20. Interesting model! (but I can only find a Ldraw version ) EDIT: Should be nice to add different colors for different altitude. Simple way would be to just select the different "layers". Not so easy to do in LDD, but maybe in Ldraw? EDIT2: I strongly suspect this was computer generated since the author says it's made up of 1x1 plates. and EDIT3 (opened in Ldraw): It's got 130.000 parts, so it won't load into LDD.
  21. Ooaaahhhh. We got the legolijntje in the LDD topic.
  22. As you've allready noticed though, LDD most contains newer parts. But they do occasionally add old ones. Sails will most likely not appear for a long time, since they are made of cloth. The only cloth part in LDD today is the minifig cape, and I'm gussing it's there because it can be modeled stiff. Sails have to be somewhat flexible to be fitted/useful.
  23. Hi there and welcome to the forum. A small tip - if you're going to wish for bricks it would help a lot if you could be more specific about which bricks you want (either LDD or BrickLink number), and preferably with a link to BL. EDIT: Also, because this will allow other people here on the forum to be able to help you in case some of the bricks actually allready exist in LDD.
